Great job done by Peter and Martin!  Pleasure to work with and they understood what I wanted - perfection as much as possible.  Everything came out well.  I will be having them back in 2013 for more rooms as a result of additional remodeling.

He powerwashed and stained the deck. He did a wonderful job and was a very nice young gentleman.  He put all the furniture back where it belonged, which really helped me out.

Have used Johanson before.  As usual, they did an excellent, professional job.  Don (President of company) came and looked things over then presented an estimate via email later the same day!  Johanson is a pleasure to work with.  They are responsive, punctual, neat workers. They do a very thorough prep job so the finished results are immaculate.  Previously, Marcin stained an older bathroom vanity and made it look like new.  I will always call Johanson for my painting needs.

What I did not like was that the offer was made through Angie’s list for $899 for two painters for eight hours.  What I wanted was an estimate for what I needed done and I could not get that from them.  The painters came and told me how many hours it would take to finish the job.  They did a pretty good job.

The painters were here at the am time and ready to go. We needed to clarify the job specifics because they did not have the latest contract. We were working from a coupon so the contract had the specifics spelled out ie. paint doors with no extra charge. The guys prepped, patched and it looks real nice.I did have some difficulty with communications with the main office but we finally got the contract approved.

The painters did a fine job though their English wasn't perfect and they didn't proactively communicate causing some double work. The project started with an Angie's List Deal. When we originally tried to schedule they couldn't accommodate our job so promised to call back. That was fine but they never called to schedule as promised so we had to re-initiate the scheduling. Overall the job was fine, the price was somewhat high but the customer service was lacking. I won't buy a "Deal" again.

Johanson Decorating did a fantastic job painting the interior of our home.  We hired Johanson to repaint every wall in our house.  The previous owners had used flat paint instead of egg shell so we upgraded the paint and changed colors.  Johanson also took the time to repair any damage to the walls beyond the standard nail or screw hole repair.  They also repaired some damage in one of our ceilings and updated the trim and doors in the nursery with a new white paint to make sure everything matched.  They completed the work in 4.5 days using a two man crew and made sure to show up every day before we left work and stayed until we got home.  They did a fantastic job overall and I would definitely recommend them to a friend.

Two painters showed up and did an excellent job!  We had them for 8 hours, which was plenty of time to paint two rooms, both walls and ceilings. Excellent work, and not  trace that they were there other than the newly painted rooms.  Definitely would hire again.

The quality of the work performed by the crew was excellent.  They were punctual, hard-working, professional, efficient, and finished the job on schedule.   We have no complaint with the quality of work performed.  We did, however, have an issue with the estimated quantity of wall paint in Mr. Johanson’s proposal.   We purchased the brand of paint preferred by Johanson (Sherwin Williams) and in the quantity specified in his proposal (3 gallons) and we were unhappy to be left with 1 1/2 gallons of tinted wall paint.  While we could appreciate having enough paint to complete the job and some left over for future touch-ups (1/2 gallon is plenty), we felt that the estimate was way off and asked for a refund for the full gallon of paint left over - for which we would have been happy to give the gallon to Mr. Johanson.  Mr. Johanson declined to issue a refund for the left-over gallon of paint.   It's only because of this issue that we are giving a lower overall rating - as I stated previously, we have no issues with the painting crew or their work - just with the quantity of paint Mr. Johanson estimated was necessary to complete the job..

The estimator came to the house and seemed attentive to all that I was pointing out that needed doing. However the estimate was boilerplate and did not make note of hardly any of this detail. When I called, the estimator only had a vague memory of it so I typed the specifics onto the contract before signing it. When the foreman came to the house, he only had a copy of the boilerplate contract and not the contract that I had signed. He readily agreed to take care of the additional details when I produced the contract that I had signed. A month after they finished, paint in a few areas was already cracking probably due to poor surface preparation. It also appeared from paint left behind that the paint had been thinned out too much (perhaps to make it easy to apply?). The gutters that had been repaired still leak. Most of the painting seems fine.

The Hochman brothers did an excellent job.  They moved heavy furniture for me and then replaced the furniture after the walls were dry.  They hung a couple heavy mirrors for me after painting.  These men were very prompt, polite, clean, and thorough in their work.  I was so pleased the first day that I placed another order with Angie’s to have them come another day and paint the kitchen, and hallway that is very high.  They patched all holes and other areas that needed minor repairs, and prepped them for the painting.  When they were finished everything was in order in my house.  They cleaned up everything.  I would highly recommend these men who worked for Johanson.

I didn’t have a positive experience with them. We had a dispute over a building. They were just overcharging. The actual job was done well but there were things that they didn’t patch. There were extras and then they charged extra. They didn’t communicate well.

I used the Angies List Big deal and I don’t believe I spent anything out of pocket.  They did a very good job.  The owner of the company or the onsite manager that came out went above and beyond to make sure that everything was how I wanted it.

I was worried about the time of year for doing outside painting. It's an older ranch house and they did have to remove the storm windows too. I got them washed and they reinstalled them. When the job was done they tried to get most of the paint chips up. They did use tarps around the foundation.
The weather worked out and the job was finished on time.

A friend referred Johanson Corp to me. She also lives in Wood Dale and had work performed by Johanson and was extremely pleased with her experience. I contacted Johanson and schedules an appointment to get an estimate as to how much it would cost. Mr. Johanson came out the next day and took photographs and notes of the project and asked when I might like to have the work completed. He explained that his company was an Angie's List Super Service Award recipient and was very proud of it. He explained what would happen and how long it would take. He promised to send me an estimate in a day or two and he did. I was impressed with his professionalism and promptness. I accepted the proposal and the work was scheduled. The painters were on time and completed the work as promised. I am very happy with the work.

By and large went fine. They are very responsive. I like the deck - I do not love the deck. I think for the price I should have received better materials (quality of boards). However a week after they finished the job, a house guest jumped on the lower decking (not replaced just stained) and broke a board. I called the company in despair and they sent someone over in couple of days. I was so relieved.

The men who did the wall paper removal and painting and the woman who faux painted the lower portion of our downstairs powder room were polite and professional.  We are extremely pleased with the way the rooms turned out and we will use their services again the next time we need decorators.

I got an Angie's List Great Deal for Johanson Corp: $500 to paint 3 rooms up to 500 sq ft, wall only no ceilings or trim, customer supplies the paint (normally priced at $1200). I looked into the company's ratings on Angie's List before I bought the deal. They had an overall A rating, but I had a much lower grade experience with them. This is the only time I have ever had to give a bad review.

At our quote consultation, Jack and I discussed how best to apply the Great Deal coupon. In my 3 rooms, I wanted the walls AND trim painted, and I knew the trim needed a lot of scraping, sanding and touch-up to get it in decent shape before painting. I hired proessional painters because I wanted the job to be completed better than I could do it myself. Jack proposed that the coupon would cover the prep and paint of walls and trim needed for the Master bedroom only and the other two bedrooms would be extra. The other 2 rooms would be 1 day of 2 workers time, $720.

The painters showed up on time, I enjoyed talking with them and they were sweet to my cat. Everything got going great, but they had to leave at 1:30pm. I was worried that not enough work had been done but they told me they would stay as late as needed the following day to get the job done. I looked over the work and at that point I thought the workers weren't aware of the depth of prep work I expected from our agreement. I called the owner and Jack, the salesperson who arranged my contract. I let them know that the workers left early, that the work they had done so far didn't look like a lot, and I didn't know how they could possibly finish the sanding and prep work and still get 2 coats of paint on the walls in only one more day. They assured me it would all get done the next day. I picked up their candy wrappers and slept in the living room that night.

The team weren't very happy with me the next morning because I'd called their boss. I had to go to work and my husband stayed home with them. They finished painting around 1pm and were cleaned up and out the door at 3pm. And the quality of the work??? Well, when you get 1 and a half days of labor it doesn't usually look like the 3 days worth (remember I paid with a $1200 Angie's List Coupon + $720). Ugh! I didn't want disgruntled workers coming back to my house to fix their work. I spent my weekend patching and sanding spots they didn't bother with, scraping off big vertical drip lines off the walls, removing and patching around the heat registers that they painted over, and adding 2nd coats of paint where the white walls were showing through.

After much discussion with Jack, the salesperson who arranged my contract, they said they were only willing to credit me a half day of one worker's time - $180.

I can not recommend this company.
Response from Johanson Decorating & Handyman

"This is the first unacceptable report we have ever received. We pride ourselves in our quality and professionalism. I spent a great deal of time on the phone with the member trying to make this a better situation. The two technicians we had on site are two of our better technicians. The member and her husband were watching the clock and I believe they were looking for a greater discount. We thought a half day discount on the labor was sufficient but obviously not. The member advised she was going to make a report that would not include a recommendation but what is in this report is not a true representation of what occurred and our willingness to rectify the situation. We have been Super Service Award recipients for three years and hope to continue. Jack McHugh"
