Andersen Remodeling in Monee, IL was referred to me by a website. I had some fascia blown off my roof from a big storm and I needed it replaced. Patrick Andersen was very attentive and pleasant on the phone while "selling" me on the job and assured me that I would be very pleased with the work. He kept reiterating what 'heavier' materials would be used that would make the job look better and last longer. I never met him in person but rather handled everything over the phone. He came out to my house and then faxed me an estimate for $300.00 to do the job. He was to replace two pieces of fascia on the 'peaks' along the side of my house by the chimney. We agreed when he would do the job and and I left a check for him at my house. A couple days after he finished (since it was raining) I went out to actually see what he had done. It was horrible. I called him right away and told him that the work was unacceptable; there were bumps where he had nailed the trim, and there was even a gap between where the two pieces were to meet at the point. I asked him when he could come over so I could show him exactly what I was talking about. He disagreed that the work was not good, but we made an appointment for him to come out and look at what I was complaining about. He never showed up for that appointment and never called to cancel. A few weeks later I called him again. Finally after a couple of calls, I was able to actually get him to answer the phone and we set up another appointment for him to come over to the house. He never showed up this time either nor did he call to cancel. I waited a couple more weeks, called a couple of times and never got any resonse. Finally, I sent him an email indicating that I was very disappointed that after all of my attempts at contacting him to resolve the issue, he had refused and/or ignored me. I told him that if he was going to just jerk me around and not respond, then he should refund me the $300.00 and I would hire someone else to fix what he had messed up. I still have not heard from him and this has been going on since about August 21, 2012. I definitely want to warn any other homeowners in the Monee area and surrounding areas NOT to hire Patrick Andersen, or Andersen Remodeling. I am very disappointed in the way this worked out, especially since he only lives down the block from me. Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated. Thank you. Kathy Konie
Description of Work: I had two sections of fascia blown off the side of my house from a big storm and I needed it replaced. He was to replace the two pieces on the 'peaks' along the side of my house by the chimney. A simple job that he said would only take a couple of hours. Patrick Andersen / Andersen Remodeling was hired to replace the two pieces along the roof and he was to use materials that would match the materials on the rest of the facia on the house.

If you see this man RUN!!!!!!! This man is the contractor from h***. he only showed up to the property and stayed for three hours a day. I would show up at 8 to 9 and call him to see where he was at he would say he had to go to the hardware store to get some supplies. He would never return with any supplies. He said he would produce receipts and he never did. He wanted me to go and get a home depot card so that he can charge what he needed onto my account. When I come back at 1pm to walk my dog he still was not there he would say he went to get supplies and will return but never did. This was a daily occurrance for 30+ days He hot wired my furmace and had the furnice running all day and night it was so hot in the building you couldnt breath we had to open windows in the dead of winter. He clogged up my water lines so I had to have the copper that he installed removed and checked to see why the lines were not getting the flow of water it should. He turned the main water val to the building on without capping off the open water lines causing the installation to have to be tossed out to prevent molding. Due to this had to replace drywall also due to the ceilings blistering up. He would start a project and never finish it. He refused to give me an overall price for the whole project he continued to ask me for more and more money just to do little projects. He tried to sell me appliances that he told me were new and in his wearhouse I prepaid for them so that he can put them on order. Came to find out that he wanted me get a few guys to help him remove the items from a forclosed property and he wanted me to pay for the moving truck to haul away this stolen merchandise. He said that he had some guys that will do it but I would have to pay them per hour. Along with getting the get away truck. What a joke... When I told him I wasn't comfortable doing this he told me no refund. He started trying to blittle me by saying things like yous people always get way over your head in these projects. Started saying things like I cant help it if you don't get the money to finish what you started. he even wanted me to go through his wife to get loans on my property to pay him. I had to stop with him because he was stressing me out to the fullest. Once I told him I'll see him in court he stopped taking my calls. He ten told me that he'll give me some money but he will charge a restock fee. How is there a restock fee when the items were never extracted from the premsis. Bottom line Patrick Andersen is not a handyman he's a thief. He robbed me and left me with more work then when I brought him in. Bottom line he took my money took the keys to my property and never returned. I had to contact my lawyers to get write him a letter of demand to get my money back. Still havnt gotten my money back and its been three months so far. I and My lawyers are reporting him to BBB and Attorney General Lisa Managan. Bacsically he took up a whole month to get me nowhere and after he no called no show. I got some contractors that did what he was suppose to do in a month They only took them a week.
Description of Work: If you come across him hide your wallet and RUN!!! I had just purchased an apartment building. Prior to doing so I had two contractors come by and give me an estimate on the things that I would need to have done the first guy came in and told me that it wouldnt cost me no more than $1900 to get all the repairs done on this property. The property wasnt in bad condition just needed a few cosmetic items done a little electrical and plumming only in the the areas from where some one had neatly taken the copper out. These are all the things I needed him to do when I hired him. On Janurary 2, 2013 we meet at the property and I did a walk through with him to tell him all the things I would needed done such as; 2nd Floor Bathroom sink and shower needed copper placed in wall area also leaving a passway to access any piping Barhroom sink needed vanity cabinet and actual sink installed kitchen floors needed vinyl placed on them and kitchen sink to make sure the connection was solid with no leaks hang a door which I purchased to the apartment upstairs Install shelves inside of the closets I provided the wood install a theromostat and hand railing to hallway stairs Fix the cement on the front porch stairs 1st floor intall new toilet housing unit which I provided install plumming in the tub area and install vanity and sink Fix the exterior front door fix lock area on the door install pipe to kitchen sink and tile the kitchen floor install theromostat and shelf the closets Basement; Light electrical Ignite 2 furnaces Run plumming to sink shower and toilet in bathroom Install hot water heater He stated this would be no problem and that he could have this done within a week I gave him the first check of $2000 to get him started. He then started questioning me about how much did I pay for the property then he wanted to know did I finance or did I pay cash. He told me he had this wearhouse with all these cherry wood vanities marbel towel stoves refigerators cabinets he had it all. He said that he was a "One STOP Shop". I wanted to be releaved of the stress of running around so I went for it.. He stated that he would make this experience real easy for me.

After waiting over 6 weeks from the estimate date for the work to begin I called Anderson Remodeling & Building to see if they were still planning to do the job - no written estimate was ever given to us - just a verbal OK on doing the work. The owner said he lost the estimate information he had, and didn't know how to get back with us but he did plan on doing the job.Three different start dates came and went with no body showing up as promised. Initially the job was a verbal estimate for one panel to be replaced due to rot. When they got into the job, found ants behind that panel and had to remove 5 additional panels to kill the ants behind those panels and replace all the insulation. Upon removal of the 5 additional panels the new verbal price was increased to $1,800.00. With 24 feet of your house exposed to the weather there was very little chance to negotiate a price. The new verbal estimate basically increased from $150 for the one initial panel to $300 for each of the 6 panels for a total of $1,800. Prior to starting the job $1,000.00 was requested up front to purchase materials needed for the job. I don't believe the "crew" that worked on our house had much experience in doing this type of job, and should have had constant supervision and training through out the job. Removal of the siding, insulation and ant problem went well. The problems started when everything had to be put back together. Some fiberglass insulation was not replaced between studwork leaving exposed air spaces between the studwork before foam insulation was replaced. The foam insulation was cut free hand so gaps as wide as 1 inch were between foam panels. Concerned about this, we requested all the foam insulation be removed and replaced - this is when we found the missing fiberglass insulation behind the foam board - between the stud work. At this point the worker who did the job admitted to us he had never done this before and was just winging it. He apologized for the job he had done. At this point it was the end of the day Friday, the job was tarped, and they were to return on Monday to complete the work. Monday came and went no workers, I called Anderson Remodeling & Building and was told they would be out Tuesday. Tuesday came and went still no workers. Wednesday they finally showed up. The initial poor quality work performed was redone, all fiberglass insulation was put in properly and the foam board was replaced and taped to insure a good seal. A couple of the 4 x 8 siding panels brought to the job were of poor quality and needed replacing - Anderson Remodeling & Building did replace them. The 6 panels were replaced. When replacing the drier vent which went through one of the new panels, it was initially replaced incorrectly. That had to be corrected and when doing so, Anderson Remodeling & Building was out of the metal tape that is recommended to be used for this type of application so they tried to use duct tape which will dry out and fall off due to the heat. We voiced our concern over this and requested the correct tape be used - reluctantly a worker was sent to buy the correct tape to use. Seals around windows were sealed with silicone calk, but the quality of the application was sloppy. The over all the quality of the job rates OK, but if you look at the bottom of the siding panels replace, one of the panels is crooked so the bottom is not a smooth line - it's jaged due to the crooked panel. Upon completion of the job, the balance of the $1,800.00 was due. Due to all the problems during the job, the final cost was discounted $100.00. The balance, $700.00 was requested the day after the job was completed. We said that was fine but we needed an invoice or something in writting showing the amounts paid and the job was paid in full. The balance of the payment was picked up the following morning - no invoice was given to us . We were told it was back at the office ready to be mailed out. The check was taken and cashed that day. To date we have never received an invoice or anything to say the job was paid in full. We have tried to contact Anderson Remodeling & Building 9 times trying to get the invoice promised to us, but our calls are answered more promises to deliver it which has never happened. More current calls are just ignored and never returned. At this point, the only choice I have is to physically go to Anderson Remodeling & Building and request the invoice. I would highly recommend using a different contractor for any work on you home unless you are willing to stand and watch them to make sure the job is done correctly. I wish I would have known about Angies List prior to this experience.
Description of Work: Remove and replace 1, 4 x 8 panels of siding on our house due to rot - which grew to replacing 6 panels due to ants found behind the other panels. Due to the ant problem we had all insulation replaced to ensure we got rid of them, and any possible eggs..
