We got water in our basement for the first time in 10 years as a result of heavy rains on the previous Friday. Thankfully, due to perfect timing and hard work between my husband, myself and a pump & hoses we use to empty out pool, we were able to minimize the level of water in our home and avoid any real property damage. Despite dodging a bullet we knew it was time to have the sewer looked at and rodded. Our home was built in 1944 and the large silver maple that was planted by the city of Chicago at that time still stands right above our sewer line so we know we are always on the precipice of a major disaster due to that tree.
Per my search on Angie's List I chose Morning, Noon & Night due to their great rating and proximity to my hose. I got to speak with Artie at that initial phone call and immediately knew I was speaking with someone who knew exactly what I was talking about and vice versa. He was very knowledgeable and I knew he was the guy I wanted. I made it clear that it was he I wanted to come to my home as I did not want to start from scratch with someone new. No problem and he and his partner were at my home in about 1-2 hours of my initial call.
Came in took a look and proceeded to rod the sewer. They had to access the line from inside the house which only allows for a 3" rodding head to be used which has always been an issues as the lines outside are 6" so these pipes have never been properly cleaned since this hose was built. They got the rod out to the street and got the water flowing for the most part but when they got the camera in the line they only got as far as the foundation of the home. It was there the line had broken and dropped a couple of inches and he could not get the camera past that point. They used a locater to indicate where the break was and where they would have to dig. Thankfully it was not under our front walk but it was under the deck we have in front of our house. I called my husband home from work to see for himself what the issue was, discussed price and we signed the contract for the work.
M,N & N obtained the necessary permits for the job and arrived 8AM sharp on Wednesday morning. They had to hand dig the hole which wound up being about 8 ft down. They were very conscientious about keeping the dirt out of my lawn and answered any and all questions I had. Extremely friendly and personable guys. When they got down to the broken pipe and removed it and managed to rod out the full 6" diameter to the main in the street they found that the line was also broken at the main, Oh joy. Artie explained at length was involved with getting that repaired (City of Chicago's responsibility) but that it was my responsibility to have the plumber show the inspector, that was coming tomorrow morning, this break on camera and give him recording so he can do his report and get the ball rolling to get the City to repair this break.
Artie explained that hopefully the inspector would work with him and use the opportunity of inspecting the scope of the work that the permit was pulled for to also inspect and approve the repair to the part of the line that the City is responsible for. Artie told me that if the inspector was not willing to do that it would be another $325.00 for M, N & N to come back out and camera the damage for the inspector at a later date. He would see what he could do to avoid that.
The next morning M, N & N were on sire by 8:30 as the inspector was due around 9AM. Artie informed me at that time that their office was successful in getting the additional inspection of the line at the main added to the existing permit, therefor, no additional appointment or mines we going to be needed. What a relief.
The inspector showed up and all work was approved. It was clear to me that Artie had a good relationship with the inspector and that the inspector respected Artie which to me was a clear indication that my instincts were dead on. I made the right choice. What a good feeling that is.
Artie is a great asset to this company and I am so thankful he took my initial call and took the job to completion. The guys that worked along side him were just as pleasant and hard working as I could hope for.
Lastly, I am completely confident that the price for the work performed was extremely fair. I don't regret a dime of what was spent. As mentioned earlier with this large tree directly above our sewer line, we knew it was just a matter of time before it caused us some real issues. I am relieved that the lines directly under the tree were intact and that the tree didn't have to be removed as that would fall on the City as it is on the parkway and therefore the City's responsibility and God only knows when they would have gotten to it. As it stand the repair to the pipe at the main may nit get done until next spring. Good news is it is not a sever break and we should not have any issues due to that break but it needs to be repaired any which way.
Anyway, great experience working with this company and particularly, Artie! Morning, Noon and Night has all the necessary equipment and knowledge to do the job correctly. Very impressive!
"Thank you! We really appreciate it."
Arrived on time. Explained all necessary work thoroughly including showing me video. No-nonsense approach but consumer-friendly. I felt the plumber, Ron, was friendly and professional. He seemed straight-forward and honest and was receptive to answering my numerous questions.
"Thank you for the wonderful review!"
"Thank you for taking the time to review us."
"Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a great review."
"This is absolutely false. After reading this review, I went through last years estimates. I'm looking at your estimate right now that was written on 11-24-14 by John and the note at the bottom that Chris emailed it to you 11-24-14 at 1:25 P.M. Maybe you can check your spam folder and then remove that horrible grade? Thank you. I'm also mailing a copy out to you today. We pride ourselves on customer service & dedicate a LOT of time to give people free estimates. I really wish you would've called one more time & all of this could've been avoided."
