Because he did not do any major work on the oven, he did not charge me. He was very professional. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Oven was not heating up. Service Person came over and examined it. Oven now works again.

He took about an hour to repair refridge and when it came time to pay him, he let me know it was free since it was a part he repaired a few years ago. Extremely impressed with his honesty. It was a great experience all around.
Description of Work: My sub zero fridge was not cooling. Art Taylor came out about 2 years ago and repaired it for me. Came out again to fix it since it wasn't cooling again.

My clothes dryer was not drying the clothes at all. I picked up the phone, called Art Taylor of American Benchmark to make an appointment for him to come out and fix it. I don't bother with getting estimates from him; I know his work well enough and am confident of his expertise. He came out the next day, on time, and fixed the dryer before I could grab another cup of coffee.
Description of Work: Art Taylor, Founder and Ceo of American Benchmark can fix ANY appliance, big or small. He is a genius, and I have been using him for years. Honest as the day is long. Fair pricing. On time for appointment. This gentleman has fixed every appliance in my household - washer and dryer, dishwasher, two refrigerators. He is a very hard worker, and I would never, ever call anyone else to repair one of my appliances. He returned my phone call after an hour or so.....my Maytag dryer had no heat. He had it fixed in less than an hour. Please believe me.....there is no one better than Art and American Benchmark. His phone number is 630-963-2650. Thanks Art .

This was a TERRIBLE experience, and I highly recommend that NO ONE hire this company. They claimed that they came to fix the dishwashers, but they did not. We have contractors who were working on the house at the time, and NO ONE recalls them coming to fix the dishwashers. One person, the designer, was there when the estimate was done. But, NO ONE saw them actually come to fix the dishwashers. The day they were supposed to come out, no one called me to let me know they were there, no one called me to let me know they had finished the job and what the outcome was. When I returned home, the Fisher & Paykal was still FILLED with moldy water, and the other machine still had a top drawer that kept falling off. I called their company multiple times to get them to come and fix the dishwashers, but no one called me back. I assumed they never came, never fixed the dishwashers, and just didn't want to do the job. Then, several months later, they start sending me bills for the "repair work". The owner called me and threatens to sue me, even when I explain that none of the repairs were done, and he never returned my calls. This is a completely dishonest company. I see now that there are several "F"s in Angies' List as of late. Please be forewarned. This is NOT an honest company. Do NOT work with them!
Description of Work: They were asked to come and fix two dishwashers. One, a Fisher and Paykayl, had standing water in both drawers. The other, a Kitchenaid, had a top drawer that would not slide properly and it was not easy to close but would pop open frequently.

After searching our phone records from 8/11-3/12 there are 6-8 entries from American Benchmark to the customer’s phone but non noted from the customer to American Benchmark. The customer was never present, even though we made the request, when the repairs were completed. We were told to leave the bill and she would send the check. After one month without a payment we contacted the customer and were told that the check would be mailed. There was no comment about the dishwashers not working. When the actual repair was completed there was no one on sight that spoke English. We had to leave ourselves into the home and find the dishwashers to make the needed repairs. We can identify our parts. They were installed on 9/13/11 as promised. Several calls asking for payment have been ignored. During the follow up calls we were promised payment but none was ever received. As far as the problem with our phones there have been over 500 service calls since yours and you are the only one to complain. Problem with dishwashers. Fisher-Paykel Did not drain top drawer Repair-installed new propeller Kitchen Aid Door fell open Repair- installed door cable kit Ina an effort to cut through the he said/she said scenario we will submit our technician to a polygraph test and request that you do the same. In the spirit of fairness we are sure that Angie’s List would be happy to post the results of the test. We do not consider the posting resolved until the polygraph test results are posted. Resolution-Customer paying the bill for the repairs that were completed.

The first and only time they came out they examined our oven and said they needed to order parts. With labor the estimate for the second visit was $413 and they said they would call when the parts we in. Two months passed with no call so we called them. They said the parts were in and they were glad we called because they lost our phone number (our number is listed). A date was set for the second visit - Nov 7 between 9 and 11. By 12:15 that day there was no call and no repairperson. They were called and the person who answered seemed surprised that the appointment was missed (where was the repairperson, they had been here once before?) and asked our address, which was given. He then asked if we were in a town three towns from ours whose name sounds nothing like our town's. When corrected him he seemed surprised. I asked, "Does anyone there know what he's doing?" He replied, "Yes, we know what were are doing." I then said, "Well it doesn't seem like it." His reply, "Then maybe you should find someone else." No apology, no explanation, nothing. The called was terminated following his suggestion we find someone else but we have not had the use of the oven for over 2 months. We selected this firm based on the rating here, our first use of Angie's List, but are finding someone else on our own.
Description of Work: Diagnosed problems with a built-in double oven. Needed to order parts and return.

They were great. I remember that they were really quick. They were the only people that could come out the same day. They fixed the ice maker the same day. Their price was in line with what I thought it should be.

They were on time and they did everything that they said they would. I would tell people to call them in advance because they are usually pretty busy. I would use them again in the future.

I like the way they come out and take care of the problem in just a day. The price was very fair. We had used them before so we knew that the provider we are going for was good. I rate them high overall. I would absolutely use them in future.

I called and the phone was answered by a very nice gentleman. I explained that my Maytag washing machine was not spinning and getting rid of the rinse water. He said someone could be out the next day...between 9:00 and 11:00. The next day and only a 2 hour window, sounded good so far. When Art, the repairman arrived, at 10:00 and looked at my machine, he said that a button wasn't pushed in all the way and that it was a quirk with this machine. I have had it for 21 years and this problem has never occured. I'm thinking how stupid am I for not checking that and, on top of it, I have to pay. I asked Art how much it was. I was thinking $50 or $100. He said "NOTHING." What!! No really, how much is it for coming out. "Nothing, I didn't do anything. We just want to keep your business." How refreshing that was. I have not heard that the entire 32 years I have lived in this town. Art was very nice and so is the American Benchmark Company. They have my business for life!

This was not a one-stop experience. Art diagnosed the problem and I paid in advance for a part he had to order. He returned in a few days and installed that part. After his departure, I found that although the machine washed, a number of the features which had previously functioned did not work. Also, there was some clear grease or something on the control panel that was eating off the painted directions. We called Art with a list of the functional problems and he made a telephone diagnosis and ordered a new 'board'. Art has employees who install, but he told us that he does all the maintenance, so between his schedule and ours about 10 days went by before the new board was installed. It went in today and Art did not charge us anything additional. So, this was not a brilliant experience for either the repairman or for us. But he was fair and courteous throughout. I'd call him again. I'm not sure he'd come!
Description of Work: Our Bosch washing machine stopped washing and American Benchmark repaired it.

They were very good. Their price was very reasonable and fair. They were honest and good to work with. Overall, they were excellent. Their stand up service and reasonable pricing stood out to me. One of their representatives that I interacted with was a man of his word and very fair. Their responsiveness was very good. They were punctual and were always there within the time window. I would use them in the future all the time. I have friends who have been using them.

I liked that they came out right away so we did not lose any food in the freezer. He helped us remove everything in the freezer so he could fix it properly. He was very attentive and he did a very good job since it required defrosting the coils in the back that were really frosted up.

I was very pleased with them and I thought that they did a very nice job. There is really nothing that they could have improved on. They were very capable and worked right through and were diligent. They did an excellent job and it looks great. It did not take long and they completed the work in a timely fashion. I think is paid about $135 on that work. I referred them to my son.
Description of Work: I used American Benchmark about 2 weeks ago and they installed a microwave for me, which included putting in an electrical box.

The washer was also leaking a graphite-like substance. He said he didn't know what to do about that. Replaced a spring in the washer. Within two months the problem recurred. To be fair, he's the second guy to "fix" that washer that didn't work. I replaced the washer this year. Bothered me that he didn't look into the leakage problem.

Placed call to request service on 7/20/2010. At the time of call, I was told they could not get to me until Friday. I said that would have to do and we set appointment for between 2 and 4 PM on Friday, 7/23/2010. I received a call at 3:45 PM stating he could not make it and would Saturday be alright. Again, no choice, but I had to work and would be home around 2:45 PM. He said he would be here between 3 and 5 PM on Saturday. He arrived at 3:00 PM and took off the back panel on the refrigerator and then went out to his truck. He came back in and said he did not have the needed part and could not get it until Monday. On Monday, he left a message on my answering machine that he would be by in a day or so to complete the job. I had given him my cell phone number telling him that is the best number to reach me on but he called my home phone and just left a message. It is now Wednesday and he has not shown up again. This is the worst example of Customer Service that I can possibly imagine. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

DuPage county has been declared a disaster area and we can only schedule calls on a first come first service basis. We have done everything we can within reason to accomodate you but we have been absolutely swamped with requests for service as all service companies in this area have been to the best of our understanding. SImply put we have not been able to contact every customer since the storms arrived and did so much damage, but we are trying. A little understanding on your part would have been nice. Since you are so dissastified with our service we will be glad to give you phone numbers to other area services that might be more to your liking. Really, call us.

The service man called shortly before arrival to verify the address, arrived well within the scheduled timeframe, diagnosed a defective igniter, provided the estimate, and efficiently completed the repair all within a half-an-hour. The oven is heating wonderfully.

I called and left a message which was promptly returned, and we made an appointment for a couple of days later. Art diagnosed the problem quickly and ordered a part. He also fixed a non working burner on my stove and fixed a minor problem with my dishwasher. He made an appointment to return a few days later with the part for the refrigerator, arrived on time and completed the repairs successfully. I felt he was polite, professional, prompt, and extremely knowledgeable. I would use this company again in a heartbeat!

American Benchmark was able to come examine the problem the same day I called (June 1st) which was a plus, and arrived within the time frame they said. The diagnosis involved ordering parts they did not have in stock with a 3-5 day shipping time. On the 5th day I called (June 8), and they could not verify that the parts had even left the supplier. To their credit, they offered a full refund. We mulled it over and decided to accept the refund which we let them know by leaving a voicemail since they did not answer that particular call. We didn't receive any return call or confirmation that they had recieved our decision, so after a couple of days of not seeing the money back in our account (we paid by debit card), I called to find out that credit reversals are only done on the 15th and 30th of the month (strange) and to look for the money in our account on the 16th. When it still wasn't there on the 17th, I called again to find out they were behind on this particular administrative task and would be getting to it in the next hour- i.e., look for the money the next day. The next day (June 18), still no money, but they did call to say that they were sending a check (??). Saturday, June 19, the check did actually arrive in the mail and now June 22, the check has cleared and the money is finally back with us. Since there was no work done, I can't comment as to its quality, but I do hold companies accountable for the suppliers they choose to use. I'm not particularly happy to have been without my $423 for 3 weeks since, in addition to the irritation, I haven't been able to hire anyone else to do the job (no funds, of course). I was expecting more professional service from a company with such a good rating.

the supplier that we used to try and secure parts for your refrigerator is the same company that manufactured your refrigerator. We have had a history of problems with this company but still try attempt to repair their products without any cooperation from them at all. Example"I can't seem to locate the part you are requesting so is it ok if our product specialist calls you?" 4 days later, no return call. Result, no repair , hopping mad customer But you are correct member, our performance was less than spectacular and the fair thing to do is a full refund. Under the circumstances we have to say thank you for a good review and again we are not perfect but we keep trying to give the best service possible.
