"Sadly, we did not end up providing any services or perform any work for this customer. We sincerely wish it was handled better by our staff all around. Our original proposal was found to be incomplete and did not accurately reflect the full scope of issues with the chimney and fireplace. We understand when additional information reflecting an increased scope of repair was presented to the customer it was not positive news. We apologize for the uneven nature of this customer experience and will use this event to learn how to handle these situations better. "Thanks, [Member Name Removed]. I appreciated the time you took on the call today. We were grateful for the opportunity to come out and evaluate your issues. We should have been more thoughtful explaining what the underlying problems were in your home and the causes of the extensive soot staining on your walls and ceiling. Additionally, we observed areas of your flue that were compromised by open gaps between flue tiles that we had photographed and shared with you. The main areas of concern were the integrity of your venting system and the under-sized flue. These two issues combined to create conditions at variance with the guidelines set forth by our governing industry authority which is NFP211 and the NCSG. We stand by our assessment that you fireplace is in need of significant repair in order to alleviate the present issues. We understand that our competitor did not scan the internal flue or take measurements of the flue opening to determine the correct size or integrity of the chimney vent. This is something Lindemann does on every job since it's the only way to properly inspect these areas. Fireplace and venting safety if the cornerstone of our efforts at Lindemann Chimney and we will gladly review our findings and answer any additional questions you may have regarding the safe operation of your fireplace. "When evidence of a chimney fire has occurred we are happy to be an advocate for any customer if they choose to file a claim with their insurance provider. When the insurance adjuster schedules a visit we always prefer to be there as well to show them what we see and why it represents evidence of a chimney fire. When we see evidence of a possible chimney fire, it is standard practice to NOT perform a cleaning as it will remove the evidence an adjuster needs to see. A full refund has been approved however, the firewood offer is for pick up only from our dispatch when a cleaning has been performed. If the customer should choose to have us return to further inspect the fireplace for evidence of a chimney fire we would be happy to send a senior technician to fully document everything at no charge. Also, we are happy to support the customer if an adjuster is scheduled to inspect our findings yet its best that we coordinate so we can be there as well to meet with the adjuster."
