Jack Blanton Plumbing had done multiple jobs for me and they have always been good experiences. He is reasonable with the costs and the payments. He always does quality work and I have nothing but good to say about Blanton Plumbing.

He determined very shortly after arriving that it was a radiator pipe and not a plumbing pipe. He didn't find which one. He said to call an HVAC guy, which I did. He was in the house a total of 15 minutes and the bill was $180.00. It seemed really steep.
Response from Duane Blanton Plumbing, Sewer & Drainage Inc.

"THANK YOU FOR VOICING YOUR OPINION OF OUR SERVICES. I DID TAKE THE TIME TO INVESTIGATE YOUR COMPLAINT. THIS IS WHAT I FOUND. IT WAS ON A SATURDAY THAT YOU CALLED. YOU WERE ADVISED OF THE $180.00 CHARGE AND YOU AGREED TO IT. THEN UPON SENDING OUR PLUMBER TO YOUR RESIDENCE, NOBODY WAS HOME. ABOUT 1 HOUR AND 12 MINUTES AFTER HE LEFT, YOU CALLED BACK AND STATED YOUR PHONE WAS NOT WORKING AND YOU WERE IN THE BASEMENT CLEANING UP FROM THE FLOOD. YOU APOLOGIZED, AND WE UNDERSTOOD. OUR RECORDS THEN INDICATE WE SENT OUR PLUMBER BACK TO YOUR SITE, WHERE HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE WATER BACK ON FOR YOU, AND ISOLATE THE LINE TO THE RADIATOR FOR YOU. HE THEN ADVISED YOU TO CALL A HEATING PROFESSIONAL. SO IF OUR RECORDS ARE ACCURATE, WE MADE TWO TRIPS, DIAGNOSED A PROBLEM, ADVISED YOU HOW TO REMEDY YOUR SITUATION, WHILE TURNING YOUR WATER BACK ON AND ISOLATING THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK ON YOUR HEATING SYSTEM, ALL FOR $180.00. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS AN ACTUAL CARBON COPY OF WHAT TOOK PLACE. IF IT IS, AND YOU STILL FEEL YOU HAVE SPENT TOO MUCH MONEY, WELL THEN I ACCEPT THAT WE ARE NOT WORTHY OF YOUR BUSINESS. IF OUR DISPATCHERS ARE FABRICATING THINGS OR JUST SIMPLY NOT POSTING THE RIGHT INFO. TO THE RIGHT JOB, I NEED TO KNOW. EITHER WAY, I AM VERY GRATEFUL THAT YOU TOOK THE TIME OUT OF YOUR BUSY SCHEDULE TO NOTIFY ME OF HOW OUR SERVICE WAS AT YOUR HOME. I CAN BE REACHED AT 847-328-8100.SINCERELY, JACK BLANTON JR."

After they left, it was already dark. I called a second company; they sent Dan here. He was very experienced and fixed the problem inside the house. After the work, he charged me $540! I was happy comparing with the $2,000! I gave him very good evaluation, and would like to tell this story to Angie's list.

Jack arrived at time promised inspected the job and quoted $1134.00 and advised job to repair would take 6 to 8 hours. Also he advised if job took less time the cost would be less. Estimate was approved and an appointment was made for the following week. Plumber arrived as planned, the repairs were completed in approx. 1 hour 15 minutes. I was charged $864.00 which seemed excessive, so I called Jack to discuss the charges. Spoke to Jack at length and he promised to look at his costs, and make adjustments to the price. 1 month later I have not heard back via phone or mail. To sum up they were prompt, efficient and provided quality work, however the cost for the time and almost no materials (just one union connector) seems out of line. --
Response from Duane Blanton Plumbing, Sewer & Drainage Inc.

"THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE TO ANGIE'S LIST. I FEEL IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERYBODY TO FULLY UNDERSTAND THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING YOUR SITUATION. IN FACT, YOU DID CALL AND REQUEST A PRICE TO HAVE A 3/4" T ON YOUR DOMESTIC WATER SYSTEM LOCATED IN THE CEILING IN A VERY TIGHT DELICATE AREA REPAIRED. UPON LOOKING AT YOUR JOB AFTER REALIZING WHAT ALL WOULD HAVE TO TAKE PLACE TO ACCOMPLISH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LEAKING T I DID IN FACT TAKE THE TIME TO WORK YOU UP AN ESTIMATE OF $1134.00. IN OUR CONVERSATION YOU ASKED HOW LONG APPROXIMATELY SOMETHING LIKE THIS WOULD TAKE TO REPAIR, IN CONVERSATION I TOLD YOU THAT IT IS HARD TO GUESS ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS BUT I WOULD GUESS THAT IT WOULD TAKE APPROXIMATELY SIX HOURS. YOU CALLED IMMEDIATELY UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE JOB. YOU WERE QUICK TO JUDGE THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT WAS SPENT MAKING THE ACTUAL REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH YOU NOT ONLY OBTAINED OTHER ESTIMATES YOU HAD AMPLE TIME TO CHOOSE NOT TO HIRE OUR FIRM TO MAKE THE REPAIR. FURTHERMORE IN YOUR COMPLAINT YOU HAVE STATED THAT YOU HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM ME VIA EMAIL OR PHONE IN ONE MONTH, YET THE BILL WAS $1134.00 DISCOUNTED TO $864.00. THIS ADJUSTMENT WAS MADE THAT VERY SAME DAY. ALTHOUGH YOU CLAIM OUR MAN ONLY WORKED THERE AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES, WHAT ABOUT PICKING UP THE MATERIAL, PICKING UP THE THREADING EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO MAKE THE REPAIR WITHOUT EXCESSIVE CABINET REMOVAL, DRYWALL REMOVAL, ETC. WHAT ABOUT THE TRAVEL TIME TO YOUR PLACE, RETURNING ALL THE EQUIPMENT, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT GOES WITH IT? YOU CLAIM THAT YOU ARE A BUSINESS MAN, BASICALLY IN THE SAME BUSINESS I AM, AND YOU CHARGE X-AMOUNT OF DOLLARS WHILE ACHIEVING A 30% PROFIT MARGIN. IN OUR CONVERSATION I EXPRESSED TO YOU THAT I AM MERELY ATTEMPTING TO ACHIEVE A 12% PROFIT MARGIN. THIS JOB WAS NOT A TIME AND MATERIAL JOB, IT WAS IN FACT A SITUATION WHERE WE ARRIVED, QUOTED A PRICE, WON THE JOB, COMPLETED THE JOB, DISCOUNTED THE BILL, AND WE STILL ARE NOT WORTHY OF BEING HIRED TO DO WORK FOR YOU IN THE FUTURE. I ACCEPT THAT. ALSO I TRY WITH ALL MY HEART AND SOUL TO BE FAIR, RESPECTFUL, AND PUNCTUAL, ALL WHILE DOING A GOOD JOB. OUT OF ALL OF THIS I WAS NOT ONLY RECOMMENDED TO YOU BY ONE PERSON, BUT YOU CLAIM I WAS RECOMMENDED BY TWO. MY ONLY WISH IS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE VOICED YOUR DISAPPOINTMENT TO ME PERSONALLY RATHER THAN TRYING TO HUMILIATE ME FOR ALL TO READ. SINCERELY, JACK BLANTON JR."

I called Jack Blanton Jr. on Saturday late morning asking if they worked on small jobs. Jack was working on a furnace job at that time and said that he will call back in 15 min. He called back promptly and said that he could come over around 2:00 PM to look at the job. After showing him what I needed to have done, he quoted about $340 for the leaking toilet which I thought was a little on the expensive side and $340 for the leaking bathtub faucet. He said he would give a discount if I had both jobs performed and therefore I decided to have both jobs performed. He completed both jobs quite efficiently and proceeded to fix the faucet by replacing an o-ring and cleaning out the cartridge assembly, at no cost! I would certainly use his services again.

I found the pipe in my garage had burst again (happens every Winter) around 8pm. First I had to shut off the water to my house and then I checked Angie's List for plumbers. I left messages with a few different plumbers and Jack Blanton called me back within half an hour. I explained to Jack that we have a one year old child and he was very understanding about our need to get water running in our house again. Jack was at our house first thing the next morning. Despite some small obstacles, he fixed the problem very quickly and moved the shut off valve to prevent the problem from occurring again. As for the price, I was thrilled at his initial estimate. When he found the pipe had burst in a second place, the charges went up another $200. I thought $200 was a lot for a 6 inch section of pipe and another 20-30 minutes of labor, but overall I think the pricing was fair.

Jack came within 2 hours of us calling him. He was courteous and took the time to not only explain what the issue was but he showed us where the leak in our toilet was coming from. We also appreciated that we weren't charged for his assessing the problem, where with other plumbers we called, they said it would be a flat $80 fee just to come to the house. Jack was prompt in fixing the leak and allowed us to flush the toilet a number of times while he was here to ensure that the leak was fixed. Additionally, he assured us that if there were any problems we had his direct line to contact him. I don't feel we will need to call him, but it is reassuring that if we do, we can get him directly. I would highly recommend Jack Blanton Jr. Plumbing.

We called Blanton and they said that they could come out the same day. They arrived promptly. We have an outside clean out and they began to power rod the line. They initially quoted $150.00 but didn't tell us that was only for their smallest cutter. After rodding the line, the technician said that the $150.00 was only for their smallest cutter and that the clog would come back right away. He said that we really need him to use his larger cutter and that would cost $300-$350.00. We negotiated him down to $250.00 but really felt taken. We were already into them for $150.00 and would have to have spent that to hire someone else. Although Blanton guaranteed that our sewer line would be clear for 2 years, 11 months later we have a blockage. Even though they said that they would come back for free if we had a problem within a year, we are calling and paying for someone else. We don't ever want them on our property again.

Wednesday evening, water from a bath started leaking through to the first floor. Found this company on Angie's List; had not heard of them before. Called at 6:15am the next morning; was promised a visit before noon. The plumbers arrived at 11:30am, quickly found that a cable driven waste overflow unit had failed, causing the leak. That tub/shower had always drained slowly, so they also proposed to replace the old, rusting drum trap with new PVC p-trap and line, as well as rodding out the line to remove the stoppage. Discussing the replacement unit, they persuaded me that we could save more than $200 by simplifying and eliminating the cable-driven part, which savings I appreciate. The two person crew came, as scheduled, at 8am the next morning, Friday, to perform the work, which was done professionally, neatly and within three hours of their arrival they were done, exactly as quoted. At my afterthought, they spent a further few minutes adjusting the drain control for a sink in another bathroom at no charge. The repair was costly, but necessary in a 54 year old house. They unhesitatingly honored the 10% Angie's List coupon I mentioned. I would unhesitatingly recommend Jack Blanton Jr. Plumbing; we met several of their people, all of whom were polite, respectful and professional. A total "A" experience.

We moved into our house in November of 2007 and we noticed almost immediately that the hot water smelled like rotten eggs. We called around and Blanton came out. The first guy who came out was nice and told us that the problem was that the water heater had not been used for months (the house was vacant for months) and that the rod in the water heater got bacteria and that caused a smell. They fixed that for $250 and we were pleased. However, they came back to work on our sump pump claiming it had to be dug two feet deeper than it was (we later found out the sump pump was fine at it's previous level, so the job was unnecessary and it cost us $5000.00). The other problem we had is that they knocked a small valve off of our water pressure tank. They would not come back to look at it and were quite rude and claimed they didn't break it. They said to look at their contract anyway since they are not liable for any damages per their contract. So we spent $5000.00 on an unnecessary job and they wouldn't fix the valve anyway. I talked to the manager and said I would call the owner and they still ignored us rudely. We had another contractor fix it for $70, this was not an expensive piece comparative to the job. We will never use them again even in an emergency.

The first time Jack Blanton Jr. Plumbing's crew came they tried to just clean the pipes and advised me that further work would be needed sooner or later. When the tub backed up again within days, I called them. They had given me a 30-day warranty. They came back, laid out my options, I made the decision to go ahead with the bigger job, and to help me out with the unexpected expense they applied what I had paid for their first visit toward my overall balance. Both times they arrived within hours and at the promised time. Their work was professional and knowledgeable as well as their demeanor.

Fine, I was hesitant to call Jack this time because of my memory of the higher charges of this plumbing company. Also, when I checked the reviews he had mostly all "A" except price which he averages around "C". However, we have used him in the past and have felt like the company does a good job. In talking with Jack I learned that he pays in full for all his employees to have health insurance. I am willing to pay a little more for service when I know that it is top notch quality ( which I think they are ) AND when employees of the company are receiving much needed benefits. Also, he came out the same day!

The 2 plumbers came after we called several places and Blanton Brothers was available on the same day. Our basement was flooded with 6 inches of water. They did a great job cleaning out the pipes. Found that it was a lot of baby wipes! The plumbers even put in a camera to make sure nothing else was blocking the pipe. They did tell us we will eventually have to replace the pipes since the house is old. They were very professional and honest.

Our kitchen faucet had worn out and had begun to leak. We live in a high rise apartment building, and management is "picky" about outside workers complying with building regulations, so we needed someone who would be able to do a first rate job. Jack was prompt, friendly, a fast worker, and the new faucet was installed perfectly.

The men that were sent were professional. My only complaint is I was given an appointment for between 8am-10am. Come 10:20 or so I called and was told by the dispatcher that they were still at the previous job and they would call when they were on their way. That didn't happen until about 11:45. This was not a problem with the men that came as they didn't even know about my job till they called in to the office when they were done. It was a dispatching problem. I let the men know I was unhappy about having to wait so long and that I had to call in to check on their whereabouts rather than someone in the office calling me to let me know they were running behind. I did get a call after they left from someone in the office with an apology.

John was on time and extremely professional. The cold water to my shower just stopped flowing one day-leaving me with the option of only taking scalding hot showers. I was worried the issue might be related to the risers in our condo building. But, John assessed the situation rather quickly, and determined that it should be a straight-forward fix. He also looked at the risers and gave the opinion that they don't need to be replaced anytime soon...which is always good to hear. I live in a vintage building with minimal (if any) upgrades in the last few decades. Overall - a very good experience.

They did the job in the middle of the snow storm. I had to have them move it later a couple of times because it was to far from an asphalt area by our garage that I wanted it by. They would come right out and move it for me. They are very responsive. They give an honest estimate and give me options on what I can do. Any plumbing problem I have I call them immediately.

Plumber came out within 2 hours. I told him all the things I would like to get done and he gave me estimates. I wanted a leak under the kitchen sink fixed ($100), a slow drain in the bathtub fixed ($225 to rod it out) a slow drain in the bathroom sink fixed ($225 to rod it out), Clean out the vent stack ($225 to rod it out), a sump pump not working ($750 to replace the sump pump and check valve - standard company cost for replacing a sump pump and cleaning the debris from the sump area). The Plumber recommended replacing the drum trap under the bathtub with a P trap for $750, and replacing the metal P trap under the bathroom sink for $100 (Nothing wrong with it). The Plumber went outside to his truck to talk with his boss about the prices. The total for all was roughly $1800 with approx $150 knocked off the price for Angie's list members, bring the price down to $1650 if I got it done all at once. I told him I wanted to get other estimates. He said the boss told him to ask what he could do or get done while he was here. I told him he could fix the leak under the kitchen sink and rod out the vent stack. He found and fixed the problem with the leak under the kitchen sink. Electrolysis with dissimilar metals caused corrosion at the supply lines. He forgot to flush the lines before reconnecting to the faucet, plugging the orifices in the faucet which could not be fixed since the clog was not in the faucet valve, forcing me to buy a new faucet for $129 at Home Depot. While I went and purchased a faucet, he went and got his rodding tools from his shop. He rodded the vent line successfully. He then assisted me in installing the new faucet. I thought he would not charge me for installing the faucet since he had a part in plugging the faucet and forcing me to buy and new faucet. He charged me $100 for 15 minutes of work in replacing the faucet. The plumber was a very nice young guy, but their rates are not acceptable. I am not out to rip anyone off. My guesstimate was $100 a labor hour. Multiplied by 2000 working hours per year comes out to $200,000 per year, split 50/50 between the Plumber and business owner make a very nice profit and salary for the Plumber. It is also the same rate for most new car dealer repairs. It appears they are charging roughly $200 per labor hour. I only want to pay a fair honest price and not get ripped off. They impress me as not someone I would trust not to take advantage of a senior citizen. I asked the Plumber how much the sump pump replacement would be if I purchased the sump pump. He said that would lower the cost to 525 but no guarantee on the sump pump. He said they use Champion brand sump pumps. I looked on eBay and Google but could not find that pump anywhere. I do not know if it is a good quality pump or a cheapee that they buy at a low price and charge more since you cannot comparison-shop that brand. Their guarantee is 1 year on the sump pump which to me is way too low for the cost.

This company was the first to reply to our phone calls. We explained what was the problem over the phone, but they did not bring the tools that they needed to cut the pipe to remove the blockage. They had to make a second trip. I had to take another day off from work and they were late.

"THANK YOU FOR YOUR OPINION OF THE SERVICE OUR COMPANY PROVIDED, TO REMEDY THE BATHTUB AND LAVATORY ISSUES IN YOUR MASTER BATH. YOUR OPINION MEANS EVERYTHING TO US. I WANT TO APOLOGIZE TO BOTH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY FOR NOT ARRIVING AT YOUR HOME WITH THE PROPER TOOLS TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT. HOWEVER, I AM PROUD OF THE FACT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE THE REPAIRS, WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO MAKE ANY COSMETIC REPAIRS WHAT-SO-EVER. WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING DROPPED DOWN A DRAIN, IT CAN BECOME VERY COSTLY. NOT ONLY TO THE PLUMBER BUT ALSO TO THE DRYWALLER, PAINTER, ETC. WHILE I WAS THERE I EXPLAINED TO YOU THAT I COULD HAVE MADE THE REPAIR THEN, BUT I FELT THAT THE TOOL I REALLY WANTED TO USE UNDER THE WHIRLPOOL TUB WAS NOT ON MY TRUCK. WE AGREED THAT I WOULD RETURN THE NEXT DAY. I AM SAD THAT YOU FEEL OUR SERVICE WARRANTS "NO” TO EVER HIRING OUR COMPANY AGAIN. HOWEVER, YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO US AND IF YOU EVER HAVE A CHANGE OF HEART WE WOULD BE HONORED TO SERVE YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND AGAIN, I AM SORRY WE FELL SHORT OF YOUR EXPECTATIONS. Found leaky valve over the weekend. After finding Exceptional in Angie's List and their prompt responses to service, waited until Monday to contact. They were able to come out during the morning to investigate. When the men came out (don't know their names), they put on protective booties and found the issue. They quoted an hour of time to repair with a cost of $563. They were right on, finishing within the hour. With Angie's List coupon, total charge was $506. Was told when we initially called that someone would call between 9-11am, but instead they just showed up between that time.

Great service from the owner and another technician. I spoke with Jamie in the office about a disconnected water heater, furnace and dryer due to "insufficient ventilation." I was in a panic and completely confused as to what the gas company had done in my home. The owner, Jack, happened to be in the area and stopped by with in 30 minutes. He clearly explained what the gas company had done and even called them on my behalf to see what changes they expected in my home. He told me in detail what needed to be done and even gave me the option of having a friend or handyman do the work as they might have been a cheaper option. I asked him to perform the work that he was able to do, moving a gas valve for the dryer, and he kindly directed me to my HVAC supplier for the ventilation issue. He was honest, polite and went above and beyond in his service.
