The service tech was punctual and seemed to do a good job. On a positive note we needed to have them come out and add the insulation within a week due to family coming. They were able to get out quickly and install what we needed. Now that it is winter I have noticed the area where the ceiling joists run on the outside surface of the roof have melted snow along the beams. We have not experienced that in any of the previous 5 winters we have been in the house when there was batt insulation. They were supposed to spray 4" of insulation but I'm not sure if that was done. I know the spray foam should act like a thermal break. Unfortunately at this point I don't know if there is a solution to the problem. The ceiling has been drywalled and painted. Live and learn I guess.
Description of Work: We had a breezeway area(approximately 10x20 feet) that we wanted to refinish. We removed the existing ceiling and batt insulation. They applied spray foam to the open space. The roof above is open.

Not customer focused. Returned inquiry 2 weeks after I called. Then asked me to set up an account and schedule on-line. When I hung up I thought why should I use this guy? Why does he have a good rating with a prolonged delay in call back and difficulty scheduling.

They exceeded my expectations!. Friendly workers did a very professional job. Their price was reasonable, but not the lowest..There was some confusion about the date work was to start. I was very pleased and would recommend them to my friends. UPDATE: There was a duct leak that was not originally detected , but Ed and his people cheerfully came back several times to investigate . The leak was finally located . I was very impressed by their professionalism !

The crew arrived promptly on time on the scheduled date which had been scheduled around work on our AC system, a Space Pak system with distributors and ducts in the attic. The AC system repairs were for some water leaks in the drip ducts which had left a fair amount of water and moisture in the attic. They advised me that adding insulation at this time would not be wise until the moisture was dried out. They went ahead and added the insulation to the other side and then were very helpful in setting up a small fan in the problem area to help dry out the moisture. I contacted Mark as soon as they left to advise him of the situation and we were able to reschedule the remaining section within a week. This allowed more than enough time for the wet areas to dry out, especially with the fan helping to dry things faster. Crew was punctual, polite, and very helpful in all aspects. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: We needed new insulation blown into two sections of the attic in our house. I knew the dimensions of the house sections well and Mark was able to give me a quote over the phone, so we set up a date for his services to be performed.

Response from D&H Energy Management Company LLC
First of all, we found it quite unusual that someone would write a review for work done over 2 years ago. Also, R19 blown insulation was added to the attic, bringing the total to R38, not R21 as stated in Member's review. In speaking with Roger Bell, he didn't recall getting a follow up phone call from the Member, however would have responded had he received the call. We would be willing to answer any questions or address any problems that the Member may be experiencing. Our office phone number is 847-515-1760.

Roger Bell is the only person I had any significant interaction with. I accepted his written (well, emailed PDF) quote via email, asking at the same time for a few things I wanted included in the contract / work order (a few things like no smoking, any overspray and clean up will not damage or stain any surfaces) as well as proofs of insurance. After a day with no response I left a message on Roger's cell. After another day ("day" here is always a business day) I called the office; Roger called me back a bit later to schedule the job. I had to repeat that the job could not be done until I had the proofs of insurance and some sort of written agreement including the terms I'd mentioned in email. He then admitted he had still not read my email. He also was clearly taken aback by my desire for a written agreement; it appears Dand H is used to just doing things on a quote and verbal agreement. But he indicated they should be able to come up with something. After two more business days passed with no communication I spoke with Roger again. That is when he said he had made a mistake on the quote, they would lose money doing it for the quoted price, and his boss refused to do the job unless I paid $150 more than agreed to. Absolutely every interaction with Roger this month took at least a day longer than he said it would. Every time, I waited for him to get back to me as promised but ended up having to re-initiate contact. Add in their refusal to meet their written commitment and I will never consider Dand H for any work again.
Description of Work: I first got an estimate from D&H for spray foam insulation in a sunroom in March 2011, but did not follow through at that time. This month I asked for and received an updated estimate. After I accepted their $1095 bid, D&H came back saying they made a mistake and would not do the work unless I paid $150 more. I refused.

Response from D&H Energy Management Company LLC
D & H doesn't typically provide contracts for a job the size of the Member's($1,095). After visiting any job, we provide a professional written proposal which is signed by the estimator/salesperson and signed by the homeowner that they are accepting the work and price(s) provided. The Member e-mailed a list of items that he wanted included in the "contract" such as "no smoking in the house, ZERO litter outside and ZERO overspray on any surface, etc.". He also requested proof of liability insurance, work comp insurance and bonding. We would have gladly provided proof of insurance, but bonding is only done on extremely large projects with large General Contractors that we do work for. As far as his other e-mail items, D&H is an extremely professional company with over 30 years experience in the industry and these items are automatically done on all jobs we do. We look forward to other Angie's List customer reviews to prove our professionalism and knowledge of insulation and energy saving experience.

I had a very good experience. Dand H was very professional from start to finish. They gave good direction on what type of insulation to use and how it would affect the utility bills. They offered a fair price for a professioanlly done job. Unlike some contractors they were able to wait until the job was complete for payment which was important as we were working with an insurance company for payment.
Description of Work: D&H Energy provided a combination of open cell foam, batts and blown in attic insulation to my house that was down to the framing following a lightening hit to the roof.

Description of Work: Called two times and both times was told someone would call me back the same day to schedule a time to come out for an estimate. Still waiting for the return call. It's a shame too, we have heard great things about this company and would most likely have used their services. I can understand one no call, not acceptable but I can understand it, but two no calls - very unprofessional.

It was important for me to get this job done as soon as possible. I had family coming in on the 23rd for Christmas. The guys wanted to do the job Christmas Eve but made changes to accommodate me. They team arrived late, but called to inform me they were running behind. After doing a quick inspection the team laid paper and plastic throughout my house, prepped their materials and got to work. It went smoothly and quickly and I have to say when the heat's on my room in the attic is the warmest room in the house. I'll have to wait and see how well it keeps the room cool this summer.
Description of Work: I have a partially finished attic, a medium sized room with a 1/2 bath in the center, surrounded by unfinished space. The room was wrapped in fiberglass insulation, but it was not cutting it. The room was unusable in the summer and extremely cold in the winter. D&H had previously insulated a crawl space for me so they were the first company I called. I received two quotes once for just insulation the exterior of the room the other for insulating the entire attic roofline, walls and above the room, leaving the fiberglass insulation around the room exterior. I went with the second option.

Last winter, we felt were losing heat to the attic and we had quite high heating bills, so we called Dand H for some quotes for adding some blown fiberglass to the attic. The person who came to give us a quote went up in the attic and came down to say that R30 was probably sufficient and we probably just not used to high heating costs for such a large house. I asked him to give us a quote anyway, and so he had to go back up to measure. It seemed a bit unprofessional. At any rate, they gave us a few quotes, including a quote for blown insulation (and a few vents added between the floors) in the attic, spray foam for our basement, and some home energy management tests to see where our heat is being lost. We only used Dand H for the blown insulation in the attic. They spread plastic on the floor when they came in to protect the floor. They brought the hose in through an upstairs bedroom window. (If I'd known that, I'd have moved some things out of the way first!). I have no complaints about the end result. I'd call Dand H again.
Description of Work: D&H added R19 blown fiberglass to our attic so we would have R49 total insulation in our attic. They also added some vents between the floors which they said were necessary for the airflow.

Jim (lead installer) took great care to look at the whole jobsite and assess how to go about the job. He offered workable solutions for some very difficult spots that we had to prepare on the day of the installation. He was VERY detail oriented during the application of the foam. Together with Joel (Assistant) they worked carefully with lights to check that they got the foam into any possible crevice within the walls. We could not have asked for a better job. The whole experience was pleasant and the basement is markably warmer since the installation. The difference in temperature between the basement and first before the installation was about 10F, now it is about 1.5F. For anyone concerned about the smell, the day of installation there was some smell but it disipated quickly. The dust and smell of paint from refinishing the dry wall after the installation of the Icynene made the installation look more like a surgical procedure.
Description of Work: We got two quotes on the installation of Icynene. D&H was significantly less than the other firm and the approach was much more reasonable. D&H made an estimate based on the whole basement, the other firm measured each wall and the volume of product to be used. D&H Installed open Icynene cell foam in the wall cavities of our finished basement. They also hauled away the old insullation ($100.-). We did all the preparation work - Removing a 12" horizontal strip of drywall in the middle of all walls and removed the existing fiberglass insulation. We did as much preparation as possible and cleaned up throughly to be sure D&H had a clear shot inside all the wall cavities. We also did all the drywall work to refinish the walls.

I contacted this company over the web, having tried last year to get another company to do the same job (based in Skokie). Mike checked the area to be done and, even though it was a small job, he assured me that "no job was too small." He sent me an estimate, I replied back to say 'let's do it', and he called to set a date for the install. This was about a week later. The guy who did the spraying was clean (wore booties, put down plastic to keep things clean, etc), professional, and fast. He did the job as desired and I'm happy to have some insulation in my basement!
Description of Work: Sprayed Icynene soy-based insulation into basement sill plate area.
