Hoekstra was one of three companies that I recently contacted for a quote to install a new forced air furnace and AC system. Scott came to our house promptly upon our request and took a look at our existing equipment, which was 15 years old and failing, and made his suggestions, which included adding more "return air" duct work to eliminate a problem that we were having with the "A" coil freezing up during peak usage time. The other two companies made no such recommendation. Scott measured all of the rooms in the house, counted up all of the air vents and returns and showed me his calculation for his argument as to adding additional return air ducts. Knowing that he was correct sold me on the deal. Yes, his price was several hundred dollars more than his competitors, but he was able to secure approval from the company's owner to "throw in" the whole house humidifier for free (cost for this was $375), which made the deal more attractive. He made me feel confident that I was getting a fair deal and a correctly designed system. The sales person for a competitor called me the next day and when I told him why I decided to go with Hoekstra, he told me that "he could add the duct space for $100" but when I asked him why he didn't suggest that to begin with, he had no answer. They would have been happy to just sell me equipment that wouldn't operate properly! Anyway, Hoekstra scheduled me for the install date, just three days later, and promptly showed up at 9:00a.m. to perform the work. The installers, Eduardo and Julius, were very polite, clean (tarps, shoe covers, etc.) and worked efficiently to complete the installation by 5:00 p.m. They tested the new furnace but because it was only 49 degrees outside on the date of the install, they couldn't test the AC but advised me that "Jackie" would be in contact. I spoke with Jackie a few days later and she scheduled an "AC start-up" for today (65 degrees outside). The gentleman showed up at 11:00 a.m. as promised (told 11am-2pm) and in an hour's time, he had the AC fine tuned and running correctly. Hoekstra came well recommended by several of my friends and now I understand why. "You get what you pay for" was true in my case but I couldn't be happier or more impressed with my experience with Hoekstra. Call them, you won't regret it!

Highly highly recommended. Unlike other providers, Hoekstra came out and made measurements and calculations based on the house and our usage, as Consumer Reports advises. They were able to customize a system for us. We spent more but got a really high efficiency, very quiet total system. Purchased through Costco. Got both ComEd and Nicor rebates.
From the initial contact, through the very thorough customization process, and right through the installation, Hoekstra was very professional. The technicians who installed the equipment wore booties and took the time to walk me through all I need to do to maintain it, and explained the entirety of the system to me, including the old parts. Very thorough, very professional, and friendly and hard working. Can't say enough good!

The gentleman arrived on time and was pleasant to talk to. He was in and out in about 20 minutes. I was very happy when he said retro fitting my 100 year old home with central air was definitely not a problem.
I waited over a week to hear back from them and when I still didn't, I called. When I talked to the person who answered the phone, she was very apologetic but informed me that they don't pull permits in the city of Chicago. I was very upset because I was inquiring about having a total system put in and clearly they knew I lived in the city, why didn't they tell me that upfront instead of wasting my time.
I waited over a week to hear back from them and when I still didn't, I called. When I talked to the person who answered the phone, she was very apologetic but informed me that they don't pull permits in the city of Chicago. I was very upset because I was inquiring about having a total system put in and clearly they knew I lived in the city, why didn't they tell me that upfront instead of wasting my time.

They have put in a new A/C unit and new furnaces as need be. I definitely like them and I have a maintenance contact with them so if I do run into any problems they come out and do the repair without charging overtime or weekend fees. I get a discount on the maintenance service and the cleaning of the furnace and air conditioners when I prepay for the service contact. I would definitely recommend them. They come out in the spring and the fall. Their maintenance agreements cost me about $279. I have two separate contracts so that is two units, once a year. They are very professional and the people that come out are young men and do the cleaning. They seem to be very knowledgeable about the units and they always communicate well with me about what is going on with the equipment. If there is anything that needs to be done, like if the filter needs to be changed or something with the humidifier they always take care of things promptly. They are pretty good about coming out when they say they are coming.

We had Hoekstra out and gave us a quote we had to wait a while to get money together but when we did we scheduled the appointment 2 trucks came out and started right away. They were there all day till about 10:00pm. while it was a big job because of the house. I thought they would be done by 7 and when I talked to the guys they said no they will be there until it is done. I felt bad they worked so late but I really liked that they were dedicated to getting it done in one day no matter what. I had some secondary questions and follow up so I called them up and they came right out when I asked and the tech walked me around the new system made sure I was compfortable with everything. He even talked to me about parts of the system they did not install and made sure I was comfortable with entire HVAC system.
Later I had issues with Rebates for Gas company and Electric since I bought high effeciency items. I just made one call to Hoekstra and they dealt with both companies and I had no issues and just got checks in the mail for rebates. I was glad not to have to deal with that hassle.
This is the second house I have used Hoekstra on and while they are a little expensive I have no problem paying the extra money when I get such good service and don't have to deal with the hassle of other companies.

After having another HVAC repairman out to fix the furnace and it was still broke we called Hoekstra. Romell came out on Tues.11/4/14 to diagnose why our furnace blower was working but blowing cold air. After diagnosing that the problem was the circuit board (which is something the other repairman said it couldn't be) Romell called the office to order one since he did not have one on the truck. The next day Wed. 11/5/14 Tarah called to arrange for a repairman to come back out. She very nicely worked with me for a time frame where I could get home from work. Also, as she was working with me Tarah was very adamant that she knew we had no heat and wanted to make sure they took care of that problem. Tim came out and replaced the circuit board and the furnace has been working ever since.
Timely work and knowledgeable diagnosis.
Fantastic customer service and they really care about their customers.

The owner is not responsive. We have tried to reach by phone and email. He has returned 1 of 7 phone calls. We had to take off work and it put my family in danger. They are not willing to give us anything we find agreeable for the sacrifices we had to make.

"It was a tough catch to find our mistake during a polar vortex and with the furnace working at 15 degrees below the Chicago design conditions. Our Customer Service / Technical Staff were responsive, our Operations Manager stayed involved to resolve the issues while keeping me updated as I was traveling out of the country. I'm happy to report that the system appears to be working well and that I received a thank you for our complimentary compensation of over $500. Unfortunately we could not agree that an additional $4,000 refund was appropriate. We have a follow-up visit scheduled with a representative of the manufacturer to confirm that all is well."

My 25 year old furnace began to fail over the cold spell so I decided to replace it rather than fix it. I got 5 estimates and selected Hoestra because of the price, warranty and Angie's list track record. They were the only contractor that performed heat load calculations in my house. They also helped me to understand the real costs and benefits of the high effeciency furnace technology. 1 day before the installation, my 20 year old water heater sprung a leak and Hoekstra moved fast to help me select a new one and make that part of the installation. Not once did I feel they were acting in a way in which they thought they had me "over a barrel". Prompt and professional installation. House, water and I are warm again.

We just moved into a house in October, and it came equipped with a very high end furnace that we knew nothing about. We noticed the documents suggested annual cleaning and servicing so we went ahead and called Hoekstra to make sure everything was running correctly, was clean, etc. Joe showed up on time and was pleasant and professional. He answered all my questions about the furnace and humidifier and showed me how everything worked. He could have tried to up-sell me on the filter as the one being replaced was very expensive, but he did not, and suggested that the standard filter was just fine unless a family member had severe allergies. We highly recommend Hoekstra.

The replacement was installed in a day's time. They operated efficiently. The unit is working beautifully. The thermostat was installed awkwardly. When I called the Downers Grove office they had a man out the next morning and he corrected the issue in very short order. We are very pleased with Hoekstra from the original salesman through the installation and the correct installation of the thermostat. We will probably use Hoekstra annually for the maintenance.
