James Burns came out to provide an estimate and his bid was several hundred dollars lower than other companies I called. He was prompt for both the estimate and repair appointments, and his work was very thorough. He replaced the hinges, which I think were original to the building (circa 1920), added weather stripping to muffle the closing sound, and the door has worked properly ever since. He was polite, professional and I will definitely call him again.

Proprietor James Burns and his Old World Carpentry team were conscientious, communicated with us well, were very patient with our questions as work progressed, and completed the work on time and within budget.

The interaction was fine but they were too expensive. They were nice. The quote was too high. They came over and I talked to them for 5 minutes and that was it. He came one time and he was on time and professional.

He's a paragon of honesty and diligence. He was genial and professional at all times, answering my questions patiently and knowledgeably. He showed up on the dot every day and was meticulous about every detail. He did not require attention, but checked with me first before fixing anything outside our agreement. He rates were completely affordable. I don't have a repaired front door now; I have an airlock. It's amazing. I would talk to James before considering anyone else and plan to hire him in the future.

We would recommend this contractor completely--he is thorough, conscientious, and did a really high quality job. He works slowly in the best sense, taking great care over the details of his work, not cutting corners to get the job done more quickly. He cleaned up very well during and at the end of the job. He's also a very pleasant person to have working in your home.

James and his assistant did a nice job in replacing rotted wood elements of my porch. This included doing a good match on details on the existing carpentry. He was very punctual and always professional. James seems to be a very good option although you might pay just a bit of a premium for the good workmanship.

Good... although it was hard to schedule the work based on vendor's busy schedule and the project commenced, their start and end times each day varied a bit so wasn't exactly sure how the project was progressing (so followed-up via email).

Once James started the job, he did excellent work rebuilding squirrel and weather-damaged eaves. He showed up every day early, frequently working late as well. Great attitude, loves working on old homes. Overcame many obstacles along the way, always making it look easy. (I know it wasn't always) His attention to detail and methodical precision ensured a great result. In a number of cases, he went beyond our contractual agreement, and in most cases did not charge extra. He treated us more than fairly. I will definitely hire him again if I have a carpentry job.

Excellent experience. Arrived on time, completed the work in a timely manner, restored the door to "like new" condition, and stayed within his initial dollar estimate. Was very professional about keeping the workspace clean at all times while he worked, cleaning up when he finished and taking the debris with him without being asked. We would use him again at the drop of a hat!

We discovered water damage to the wood around one of our Pella casement windows. We called Pella and they sent out a window salesman who wanted to replace the entire window for a cost of almost $2000.00. James Burns of Old World Carpentry expertly repaired the window for $225.00. James is careful and skilled. He's a real artisan. I highly recommend him.

The person who came to work was very talented. He took his time to do the work methodically. He was very professional and great.
