Install was easy and it has been working fine.

The installation process went smoothly. The only issue the crew had was that the plans had my gas meter incorrectly placed, so they were 50 feet short on pipe when they arrived. They were able to solve this issue and still get the whole project done in one day despite the rain. In order to get the permit with the city, I had to locate the generator in the back corner of my yard which meant they had to dig a trench across my whole back yard. I assumed that I would have to plant grass, but they were able to salvage everything and you could not even tell where they had dug.

We hired Gen X in 2010 to service our generator, as well as to handle significant warranty work when the entire unit needed to be replaced.  We parted ways with the company after a terrible experience with the sister company (Highland Park Electric and were more than slightly disappointed to find out that while they were doing extensive repair work on the unit (and in the two subsequent years that they maintained the unit), they never noticed the gas line going into the unit was too small.  Had they identified the problem while our basement was unfinished , it would have been a minor repair.  Unfortunately, we finished our basement two years ago, and addressing the problem now (which another company identified the very first time they serviced the unit) cost us $1500 and required trenching our yard.  (The alternative would have involved cutting into and replacing drywall.)!  To say we are disappointed in the level of service would be an understatement.

We decided to purchase this generator after a particularly long and hot outage last summer, preceded by numerous outages that year and previous years. Our first true test of the unit came just a few months later, and it kicked right in.
Shortly after installation, our gas meter had to be upgraded (which we were instructed to instigate by GenX). After the meter was installed, the gas company rep observed a "minor leak" in the system, which he said should be checked ASAP. GenX had someone out to my house within 2 hours (we are an hour away from their location), and found and repaired the problem at no charge, which both GenX and Nicor reps indicated had probably been there for some time before the generator was installed.
It's my opinion that we not only got a generator that is a convenience, but service that may have saved us alot more than some spoiled food and hot nights.

Their local estimator came out and went through in detail everything involved with installing a whole home generator for our home. We were then sent a very detailed proposal. Once we signed the proposal they walked us through the process of contacting the gas company and they contacted our Village directly to get the permit. We set up the installation date and the crew that came out were great. They are all very professional and even though they ran into a couple issues, they completed everything in one day. Believe it or not, the very first night we had our generator there was an ice storm and we lost our power for 2 hours. At least that's what our neighbors told us because we woke up the next morning and didn't even realize it had happened! :) Great investment!

This was a great experience. The staff was highly professional and courteous I could've asked for much more. It was a real pleasure doing business with them and I highly recommend this company.

The GenX Team arrived as scheduled and got right to work.  The team of 3 where very professional and did excellent work.  Once the installation was complete they explained everything I needed to know about the operation of new generator.

We found GenX through Angies list after deciding to pass on electricians who sometimes install generators - preferring to go with experts who focus on this type of work.  Glad we did, very happy with the outcome and company.  It started off rocky though.  A year earlier we reached out to GenX to get a quote and invest in a generator following a big storm that took out power in our area and much of Chicagoland NW suburbs.  They were so busy due to the demand following the storm they sent a contractor (they said employee but he was a contractor) who was in geo area.  The man was nice but definitely in the twilight of his career (older gentleman).  He didn't listen to our needs and just kept referring a specific model/size.  His proposed placement of the generator I had reservations on due to future serviceability access and he just ignored me and said don't worry.  He couldn't even use his camera to take pics - I had to show him how to use it.  Very nice older man, knowledgable, but just didn't listen. After receiving quote my wife called up and expressed our concerns over not listening requesting another rep to come out - and we were met with resistance based on GenEx high demand at the time.  They were willing to advise on the phone but to get someone out again would be weeks and advised just to adjust over the phone.  We were upset and life got busy so we put the project on the shelf.  Keeping eye on Angie's list for others to call over the next year - we kept seeing GenX good reviews.  So we called again a year later.  
I explained the past year experience, my disappointment, and one last shot at working with them based on wanting the best and Angie's list reputation.  Brian apologized and offered to send Mike out to our home who is one of their main guys.  Mike was great, listened carefully, and came back with expert recommendation and placement of generator.  Communications were great, installation terrific, all around great experience. We're happy we gave them another chance because they are very good at what they do.  The first encounter following a major storm I think tested their bandwidth and staff augmentation and they learned from it.  True test of a company who has a customer satisfaction issue is how they remedy it.  Second time, they won in that moment of truth.  Work with them in confidence.

Everything went very smoothly from permitting through final inspection. Building inspector commented that it was a very well done and   professional job.

The installation team was excellent.  When they arrived and discovered that the place where the salesman indicated the generator should go would not work, they worked with us to find a new spot and discounted the additional materials and labor required for the installation.  They were polite, experienced and went the "extra mile" to ensure that we were pleased with the installation.

Due to quoted price, I decided not to use this company.

My overall experience dealing with this company was very pleasant. GenX contacted the village and obtained construction permit, performed on site visit prior to scheduled installation date when all details of upcoming work were discussed in details. On the date of installation the crew showed up on time, completed all their tasks as was originally projected and cleaned up after themselves leaving the job site very clean and tidy. Very high degree of professionalism and extremely knowledgeable - I did have somewhat complex setup but they were able to resolve all of my requests.

We were incredibly pleased with our experience.  The staff took the time to answer our questions and to make the experience as 'painless' as possible.  The generator installation was completed in less than a day with very little disruption.

Overall very satisfied, well done installation and professional crew.

GenX Generator is good and I'm hoping now that I'm on a service plan it will be better than my previous provider.

Great job, very professionally managed. Removed large heavy old unit from enclosure without damaging lawn etc. Installed new unit on same pad neatly with attention to detail. Walked me through operating details of new installation.

All went fine.  Estimate was given after an appointment and was clear.  Installation took one day and went as agreed.  No complaints.

I contacted the company in August and it took 3 weeks to get an estimate and the install was in December. This is due to the fact that they do very high quality work as well as the increased requests from the summer power outages. They handled the permit requests and did everything as described in the estimate. I would highly recommend this company.
