We often find that after we open up the roof to remove a curb-mounted skylight, that the curb and roof around the skylight is in suburb condition...that was the case here. "This installation was more difficult than we originally expected. There had been a ceiling fan installed at some point, and we needed an electrician to professionally sort out the power issues. In the end it worked out fine but demonstrates that we never work on components of a project we are not licensed or qualified to do. "I spoke with this Angies List member to thank him for inviting us out to quote this job. In the end he said our competitor was slightly less expensive and that was why he chose them over us. I asked if their installer had been VELUX trained and certified? Also, had he been properly harnessed (per OSHA Safety Rules) during the installation. He said to his knowledge the installer had not been harnessed and no proof was offered regarding his Five-Star Certification. I explained that Training and Certifying each of our installers and making certain they follow certain safety procedures adds to our cost. We believe it is more important to do things right than to be the cheapest company installing skylights."

"Our thanks to this Angie's List member for his kind words; we enjoyed working for him. Our initial quote reflected a price to completely remove and replace the curbs on which his old skylights set. On the day of installation when we removed his old skylights, we found that the curbs were in fine shape. We were comfortable reusing those curbs which saved this member the cost of building new curbs and having to hire a licensed roofer to torch them down. We are always trying to find ways to save our customers money and this time it worked out just fine."

"I called the member to apologize; the problem really was quite simple. We took his information over the phone and the first letter of his last name (and his email address) should have been a "B" but we heard and wrote "V". We then went out to the house, appraised the skylight situation and sent him a quote...but it went to the wrong e-mail address because of the confusion over the spelling. He finally did get our quote when we replied to his email query asking where is quote was, but no one caught the spelling error so all of our follow-up went misdirected. We're very sorry this happened but it all resulted from a simple spelling error and not incompetence."
