The contractor was very responsive; more so than the other two contractors I contacted. They were reasonable in terms of cost. The work was done to my satisfaction and the satisfaction of our town building inspector. The inspector volunteered the fact they see Atlas frequently and feel they do a terrific job. The work area was thoroughly cleaned in spite of some extremely cold conditions and with significant snow on the ground.

As you can imagine, this is a very messy job.  The Atlas team did an excellent job of preserving our old carpeting and keeping dust to a minimum.  At the end of every day, they completely cleaned the work area.

I started dealing with ATLAS in March.  Atlas told me that I needed to get a Comcast box moved away from the chimney. It took four months before the issue was resolved.  However, during the 4 months, I had no contact with ATLAS on the status of my project.  I called at least 6 times asking about the status and received no response. Not even, we are still working with your association about the comcast box.  When I called in May. ATLAS told me that my file was not

active anymore.  Finally, I heard from my association that the comcast box was moved that they were coming to fix it in August.  I still had to call ATLAS to get the exact dates August 12 -13.  When I told ATLAS that they should have called me on the exact dates and not left to the month of August.  Then, 1/2 hour later, Jason called me to say that ATLAS was coming out on August 12 & 13th.  Horrible communication and customer services.
If anyone decides to go with ATLAS, I would recommend strongly that they get exact details  and confirmation in writing.  Don't rely on ATLAS to let you know.  As Jason said "we did what was in the contract."

Jason thoroughly examined the house, walls, floors, outdoor areas to assess what may be the issue. They won't know for sure until they look underneath the house, which will take some exploratory work since I don't have a basement.  But he explained different possibilities and what to expect. I felt confident that if I decide on hiring them, they will do the best job. He was so experienced, he could feel the sinking of the floor by just walking in although it isn't noticeable right away. He was punctual, knowledgeable, professional and friendly.  Currently, they're at the top of my list.

Atlas Foundation was able to repair the foundation as well as possible.  Though the cost is more than anyone would have wanted to pay for something that isn't noticeable like landscaping for instance, they were competitively priced and were able to show us how the work would be done much more thoroughly and expertly than their competitors. Atlas representative took the time to explain how the piers would be installed. We expressed concerns with our neighbors' property and Atlas offered to hand-dig the holes to avoid machinery damaging our neighbor's lawn.  Atlas was just all-around professional and considerate.
The foundation in one section of the area being repaired had a surprise problem. Through no fault of our own or Atlas (the original house owner built the addition on a patio instead of building on a proper foundation), the approved foundation repair plan had to be adjusted and Atlas personnel worked hard to maintain additional costs to a minimum yet still secure that area of the house so prevent future settling.
All windows and door open properly now and this major project was completed without any complaint.
The most touching aspect of this whole experience was something that the men working on our foundation did for us.
We lost a well-loved pet years ago and had buried him near a window where the foundation work was being done. The men found our pets' remains and tenderly set them aside and reburied them when they were completing the final cleanup of that area. We didn't know they had done this until they told us when they were leaving on their last day.  They did not have to do this but they compassionately did and we greatly appreciated their thoughtfulness.
Every single Atlas personnel we dealt with, from the gal handling our calls to the last man cleaning our driveway of dirt and debris -  everyone was courteous, professional, amiable and simply the best. We highly recommend Atlas Restoration!

I had three cracks my basement walls that needed to be fixed.  With all the rain, Atlas and everyone else has been extremely busy.  I needed someone right away because my basement was going to be remodeled.  Atlas was able to accommodate my schedule and get the work done before the basement people started.  Since then there has been no leaks.  I couldn't get the bigger named companies to return my phone call let alone get work done asap.  These guys are great!!  Couldn't be happier with their work!

Atlas did a good job and followed up when I thought there was a problem.  (The problem wasn't the foundation.)  I would recommend dealing with Chris Heintz, one of the owners.  IMHO, the other owner, Marty, is a horse's patoot.  He's the reason for the lower scores.  Chris did a masterful job of explaining the issues to me and even offered some suggestions to my contractor.
Response from Atlas Restoration LLC

"We immediately responded to a service call from this owner for a project we completed in 2007. The original repair performed by Atlas was to stabilize and lift the foundation at the front of the home - upon evaluation, measurements determined that the foundation wall has not moved. The homeowner showed us a crack in the concrete slab-on-grade floor that occurred subsequent to our repair. This slab is completely isolated from the wall that was repaired and it's movement is independent and not related to our work whatsoever. Atlas will always stand behind the work we perform 100% but we cannot be expected to be responsible for a problem that is unrelated to our work."

The company was very responsive and professional. Work was done neatly and properly. They completed the job just in time. The night they finished we got a ton of rain. Something like 4 or more inches of rain. We didn't get a drop of water in the house where we would have always had water pouring in during heavy rains. Chimney is back in place and secure. The cement was replaced very nicely. If I had any sort of complaint, and I wouldn't really call it a complaint, is we didn't feel there was much communication on the first day. That is partly my husband's fault too, as he did not ask many questions of the crew. My husband did mention it to Atlas and spoke with Gary about it. I communicated with the crew the next day and had no issues. Overall we were very satisfied and would hire Atlas again for foundation problems.

Atlas was responsive in coming out to give an estimate. The salesman (Gary Millifan) was very professional and looked into everything to insure that we covered all problems we had been encountering. He then returned to go over the estimate, so there was no misunderstanding. Other contractors only mailed the estimare.
We scheduled with Atlas and when the time for the work came the job manager (Wil Smudde) came out and went over everything that was to be done.  On Monday the crew showed up and began the work.  The crew kept the mess of digging to a minimum.  When the crew was about to leave for the day, my wife found that we had brown water.  She showed this to the crew and they assured her that they had not hit the water line.  But could not offer a explanation.  She was told to call the office.  The office was called and a message was left for Wil.  He returned the call within 15 minutes, understood the problem and asked that he be given some time to talk to others.  Within a hour (probably less),  Wil returned the call with an explanation and also was sending out two of the crew to check.  The explantion was able to clear up the brown water and the crew came out and verified that there was no water in the hole.
I was very satisfied by this  GREAT customer service.

Foundation beneath our living room had sunk as a result of last summer's drought. Windows jammed, large stair-step cracks along two mortar joints, sills at two windows cracked in half. Got quotes from Atlas and two other companies, but Atlas got the business based on a very professional presentation, follow-up by their representative Gary Milligan and excellent reports from other customer references. They were not low-bid, but agreed to adjust initial price as necessary.
Their crew showed up early on the scheduled work date, completed excavations for four piers on day #1, completed raising the foundation on day #2, correcting the problems listed above. Also on day #2, they removed a sunken section of sidewalk at our front entrance and poured concrete for a replacement.
Their crew was very efficient, careful to clean-up the area each day and did an excellent job of re-grading the landscape around the work area.  We were totally satisfied with scheduling, communications with the company and professionalism of their work crew. I would be pleased to recommend Atlas Restoration in the future.

The job went well and the lift was successful in correcting the majority of foundation settling issues.  Chris and Will and their crew did a good job installing the piers with minimal disruption to the nearby deck and utilities and the only issue was a misunderstanding over the point at which additional pipe costs would be added to the bill.  I was very pleased with the overall results and would use Atlas again for this type of work.

After inheriting my father's house after his death, I discovered that the cinder block foundation was literally crumbling.  Two sides were leaking so bad in rain that it looked like a waterfall coming through the cracks.  After extensive research and probably 6 or 7 estimates, all with different solutions, I settled on Atlas.  Tom, the estimator, seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy.  I knew that if the walls eventually did crumble that the repair would be $100,000 for a completely new poured foundation, so I knew that it would be costly and couldn't be done with just a cosmetic fix.  We even had Permaseal out to put in drain tiles, but they stopped their work on the first day because the walls were in danger of caving in and they didn't want to be responsible for it.  In fact, it was difficult to get a contractor because most of them told me they don't do structural work. Before the work began, in order to get permits, the Village of Bensenville required us to get structural drawings.  This was not included in my contract, so that was an additional cost.   The second added cost was that I had to move some duct work in the basement ceiling in order to get the structural steel channels to connect to the joist.  That was about $300 and was performed by Air Blue (another Angie's List contractor that I love).   Prior to the work beginning, the foreman, the estimator and the structural steel contractor and I met and looked over everything.  I was very impressed by how they planned everything out in minute detail.  It was determined that more than the duct would have to be moved such as PVC piping, but the SS contractor agreed to do this at no extra cost. After the work began, I was worried about the dust.  I had tenants in this house and wanted their disturbance to be minimal.  I had drain tiles put in another house and had to clean it from top to bottom including the ducts afterwards because of all the dust.  Atlas brought a heavy duty air cleaner and there was virtually no dust from this process.  They had one person on their work crew that carefully hand-filled the worst cracks with concrete, which took him 2 full days of work.  The crew foreman carefully explained to me how everything worked when they were complete and left me all the paperwork for the sump pumps.  Then we had to wait a week to start Phase 2.Phase 2 took one day to put up all the channels.  Unfortunately, we did not pass inspection with the Village of Bensenville because they did not conform exactly to the plans.  Atlas' contractor came out promptly (within a few days) and solved this problem and we passed our second inspection with no issues.  I was informed completely of all the change orders and in the end, I paid exactly what I bargained for with no surprises.  But now the house should be standing for many years and we've had some heavy rains with no problems in the basement.  I am also certain that the mustiness is gone in that basement and the air seems much healthier to breathe.   I am going to have tenants there for a while and feel this was a good investment whether I rent it or sell it.  I would highly recommend Atlas for especially these types of complicated and costly repairs.
