I inherited my grandmother's baby grand piano. Music was her life and her piano was her most prized posession. However, it was not in very good shape. I found Jeff Cappelli and his business on the internet. He came out to look at the piano and said that it needed to be completely restored. I agreed. I was initially very happy with Jeff and his business. He restored the piano within the timeframe he initially stated and was very agreeable to allowing us to come and look at the piano while it was being restored. However, I noticed as time went on that he was very hard to get in contact with. He also was very late to our appointment when we went to see the piano during the restoration process. I also had asked for an appraisal for insurance purposes and a receipt for the $25,000 we spent on restoring the piano. It took many phone calls and missed deadlines before he finally got the appraisal (a one page document just stating the value of it, serial number, etc.) to me. Everytime I called him, he always had an excuse about how busy he was or that something had happened to his car. After awhile I became very weary of his excuses. And he NEVER gave me a receipt. That is very suspicious to me. He restores pianos all the time, and I cannot believe that it is abnormal for someone to ask for a receipt. When the piano was delivered, the top was scratched and the black keys had a film on them. Jeff agreed to fix the scratch on the top and stated that they would look at they keys when they came to tune the piano. I agreed. My husband is the musician in our family and within 6 weeks or so, the piano needed to be tuned. I contacted Jeff by email (which is how we had communicated before) and asked when would be a good time to come out to tune the piano and see the keys. After contacting him no less then 3 times I still had not heard back from him. I finally called someone else to come and fix the keys and tune the piano. Jeff seems like a very nice and knowledgeable person, but after dealing with him and his company for the last 6 months, I have come to believe that he takes on too much and doesn't follow through. And because I never received a receipt from him, I am concerned that the piano was not restored to the extent that he initially stated. In conclusion, for the amount of money I spent to have the piano restored, I expected a much higher quality of service from him and his company.
