The work turned out great. They were very efficient and got the work done faster than they had estimated. They sent two guys who did a nice job.

The salesman came and priced the cost of adding new gutters with covers. It was more expensive than
a similar job we had done in our former house, however that had been 10 years prior. The salesman was persistent, but
pleasant. We went back and forth on price and finally settled on one. He offered additional items, but we decided to only do the gutters.
I requested a specific date when I would be off in about 3 weeks for the install. The salesman indicated that he would have to confirm if that date would work. I signed the contract and gave a deposit. I did not receive much communication during time period. Finally a few days before the install, I called and they indicated that they were coming out on that date.
The workmen came, removed the former gutters and facia board. They replaced the facia on the front of the house. The back of the
house only needed a few feet of facia replaced. However when they saw it, they indicated it needed a few feet in another area, not the area the salesman estimated. Oddly, they charged me for the 3 additional feet ($50), but did not reduce the cost for the 3 feet they didn’t actually replace.
The workmen did kindly attach a metal place over a hole we had in our roof. It was higher up above the gutter and this was very helpful to us.
The workmen cleaned up everything and the job looked very well done. The workmen were professional.
The gutters have not clogged since installing them. We occasionally get spots where the rain flows over the gutters rather rolling under into the gutter. However usually that is a spot that I need to spray with a nozzle. After spraying off some little dirt in a spot like that, the rain usually goes back to rolling back under into the gutter and out the spout. Overall it they did a good job and we are satisfied. We would use their service again.

Waste of my time

Response from Jacob Sunroom & Exteriors

"I truly apologize for the inconvenience we have caused you. Since the large hail storm that hit our area we have done our very best to take care of all the calls we received. Like most of the other local roofing companies we had more calls than what we could actually handle and occasionally messed up….we dropped a “few balls” in this process. In the 35 year history of our company we have never experienced any call or lead volume comparable to what this storm brought us. I know that doesn’t make things better with your situation, but our management team meets weekly to discuss mistakes like this and how to fix the process so we don’t make the same mistake again. Our policy is clear at Jacob. Our representatives are to write up a detailed written estimate for all homeowners. During this storm aftermath we didn’t get all the bids we ran completed. I apologize for that. We made a decision not to team up with the out of town storm chasers and not to bring in a bunch of out of town sales reps to handle these extra leads and in turn had some bids that never got completed and some customers we never even got to their home to measure. It pains us to admit we lost some business because of this but that is the truth. In no way does this make us shady. Customer, I apologize again for us not getting you a formal written estimate on your storm estimate. We appreciate and take your comments serious and will make every attempt to keep this from happening again. I would be happy to meet with you about our policy and procedures at any time. My cell phone is 618-973-6180 and you can call me if you wish. Scott Jacob, President."

Representative came out in response to our request for an estimate and did a thorough inspection on the roof and in the attic. A couple of days later, it hailed, and he came back and inspected for damage,. He told us we had damage, and to file a claim, which we did. After we got our insurance report, he offered to do the job for the amount of money our insurance was paying. We chose to upgrade in a few areas, so we did spend some money out of pocket. He showed us all of their insurance and warranty information. He gave knowledgeable suggestions on what our roof needed (ridge vent, drip edges). He was a lot more informative than the other contractors who gave us estimates. When we signed a contract, he told us the crew would come in 4-6 weeks.
The crew came to do the work 4 weeks later. They did the job in one day - about 13 hours. They ended up replacing quite a bit of wood, telling us it was dried out - probably because of poor ventilation. The crew boss stopped by in the middle of the day and at the end. The crew was efficient and hardworking, and did a thorough cleanup job. I was a bit concerned about the crew's water intake, break schedule, and lack of bathroom access. Our roof looks great.

I called and set up an appointment for an estimate. The company said an estimator would be by but couldn't tell me when, just that he would be able to do the estimate and we wouldn't need to be there. I waited three days and never heard a thing so called back and found the estimator had left his business card on the door and one of my kids bought it in. That was it! No estimate...nada! Called back and got a meeting time with Tim...unfortunately had to take some time off of work to make meeting time. Did a thorough estimate and walk-around and said he'd have me estimates back in 3 days or so. Almost 10 days went by (fortunately I had been gathering other estimates from competitors) and I was ready to make a decision but still didn't have Jacob Sunroom and Exteriors estimate. I actually contacted the company through Angie's List and got a response the next day saying they apologized and would have the estimates out the next day. The siding amount was higher than any other estimate, the windows and roofing were competitive, but with the poor experiences I had with the company already, I decided not to go with them.
Response from Jacob Sunroom & Exteriors

"Sir, we apologize for the delay in serving you. We have been bombarded with storm calls since the hail storm and we are doing our very best to take care of everyone. Once again we apologize and would like to prove to you that we are committed to taking care of our customers. Sir, if we can ever be of service please contact myself directly. Thank you. Beth Jacob, VP."

Representative was polite, puntual and professional. Product appears to be of comparable good quality to other systems on the market. But their price was outrageous. I was quoted $60,000 to build this room and that didn't even include flooring. I received bids from 4 contractors and this was by far and away the highest. Eventually I am getting our room done under $30K total project but I am having to contract out the concrete and electrical myself. Moral of the story is get multiple bids and don't be afraid to bargain. Two contractors lowered their initial price significantly after a week. The one I'm buying from lowered it over $8,000. The sunroom industry is a "try to gouge you" business just like many other home improvement industries.

They were super courteous. We had two providers give us estimates. Jacob's came out promptly and explained everything. They came up with a really good plan but it just wasn't what we needed because we have a lot of living space. What we really wanted was patio and pool. I have no complaints other than that it was going to blow our whole budget.

The installation and the service was great - unfortunately the sales guy just provided an estimate and work order for the same set up that the house had - which meant when i had new gutters they still over flowed because they couldn't handle the water. When i called and a crew came back out they identified the problem and fixed it without an issue. I'd use them again, but I'd not necessarily use the sale's guy's idea of a solution if i had a problem to fix.

We were very pleased with the work done and have recommended the contractor to others. We were fortunate to contract the service during their slack season which made scheduling easier. They were here when they said they would be and completed the job on time. We were also fortunate that the weather cooperated in mid-November. The roof looks great and we are set for, probably, the rest of our lives.

After two appointments (they missed the first one), we received a bid which was too expensive. Also, when the salesman stated that these prices were only good for two days, I said goodbye. To me, that is high pressure sales.

The salesman was thorough and did give not high pressure sales pitch which we appreciated. Rather than just suggest double hung, he listened to our preferences and discussed Casement windows with us. We're glad he did, because after considering the trade-offs, we chose to go with Casements. It took ~4 weeks after they were ordered for the windows to come-in. We had some challenges setting-up and confirming the installation date. Not entirely Jacob's fault as we both could have done better returning each others calls. In the end, they did come on the date we'd tentatively set (and confirmed that same morning). The team was professional and efficient and completed most of the installation in just over two days. The only hiccup occurred with the new window that had to be installed, though it worked out well in the end. If you want to avoid the long description that follows, I'll tell you that in the end, Jacob's took care of the problem once we identified it. Again, this could have been improved by better communications on both our parts. The salesman had measured for the new window, taking the soffit into account. When the installation team arrived, they did not have any details about this installation so they asked me to draw where we wanted the window. I didn't have the dimensions of the new window, so my drawing was undersized. I was also unaware that we had plumbing going through that section of the wall (this is why I pay professionals to do these kinds of things). The team did a good job discovering the plumbing using pilot holes. I was impressed with that. They then started the installation based on the bottom of my drawing, but since the window was taller than my drawing, they didn't take the soffit into account. As a result, their cut was about 6 inches too high. They realized their mistake and installed the window 6 inches lower, but we had a 6" X 18" rectangular hole in our wall after the team had cleared out with no follow-up from Jacob's on what the intended to do about it. We had to initiate contact. They estimated the repair to be $125, but expected us to pay the entire amount. After further discussion with management, we agreed to split the cost. The subcontracted repairman who came out did a tremendous job and was very professional. And we have yet to see our part of the bill. This was really a matter of principle as the cost was not huge. Bottom Line: We're happy with the final installation. The minor problem we ran into would have been avoided with better communication between the salesman, the team, and us.

Had problems with a leak on our roof. Our roof was 15/yrs old with 20/yr shingles. Obviously we knew we were eventually going to need a new roof. However, we wanted to take care of the initial problem, the leak. Had to continually ask about what could be done about the leak. Felt like we were getting the run-around. They were more than readily prepared to provide an estimate on a brand new roof, which was fine; however, we wanted to fix the immediate problem before more damage was done. In the mean time, we had two other contractors come out. Both said we had hail damage. We filed a claim with our home insurance to see if they would pay. The Jacob's estimator happened to be at our home doing some measurements when our home insurance assessor came by. The Jacob's estimator told us he and the assessor discussed how they did not see any hail damage. Had some problems with scheduling. There was a misunderstanding in what we wanted. Jacob first thought we only wanted an estimate on new roof, then they thought we only wanted an estimate on fixing the ridge vent. We scheduled a time with an estimator but he was told that we didn't want to discuss a new roof. Had to reschedule. Was impressed with their professionalism. The estimator was very knowledgeable, clean, and apologetic about the scheduling confusion. We were prepared to forget about all the beginning issues (misunderstanding, scheduling, etc.) and start fresh. The estimator was quick to put down the other two contractors whom we got estimates from, saying their work was horrible and he has only heard horror stories. (Who hasn't heard horror stories from a competing business?) This surprised me because the other two contractors had an "A+" with the BBB while also being "accredited" with them. In a way, Jacob's shot themselves in the foot. Because we only had Jacob's estimate and two other contractors, hearing Jacob talk so negatively about the other contractors made us want to go out and get more estimates from different contractors. We got four other estimates, all from reputable contractors (BBB, Angie's List, word of mouth, etc.). Also, our insurance company ended up agreeing to our claim for hail damage. Jacob's estimate was almost $2,500 more than the average of the other six contractors as well as our insurance assessment. I don't care how good your work is, I cannot justify $2,500 more than my insurance claim and the competitor's total average; especially in this economy! The sales presentation was very classic in a salesman kind of way. They put down more ice/water shield, have a better ridge vent, etc. One thing Jacob's did have that no other competitor had was a lifetime guarantee on their work. All other contractors had the industry standard, five years. The guarantee impressed me but not to the point of paying $2,500 more. All-in-all, if price was no object, and I was keeping my home for life, I may have considered Jacob's. They just didn't have room to budge on their estimate. Where they could have cut on price, they advised against it because it would effect their quality. Get as many estimates as you can. There are other reputable companies that are much cheaper.

The job turned out pretty well. They have their own variation on that. I was really pleased with their sales representative for laying out all the pros and cons of the various products that we were considering. His information made the most sense to us. I hate it when one company puts down or criticizes another company. He did not do that. I would prefer to know how their company products are better. The price was excellent. We intend to get awnings from them. We did not have the funds for it at this time.

Their price is very reasonable. Though it is a little bit high compared to some other companies, but the quality and workmanship is very good. Even if I get cheaper windows they would not be good in quality. The quality of service was excellent. They were here on time and did the job rapidly. They cleaned up the mess after work. They are very responsive and call to inform you if they are late.
