oops - it's all in the above statement. i finally got so disgusted that i authorized my congressional rep's constituent services to look into this. that was 2 weeks ago. i'll check with them on monday. just recently, i logged into my main account (you get one main, and 5 other mailboxes). on this account they actually provided a phone number to call so today i called that number. after 30 minutes i got a very nice person. i explained the situation and told him how i wanted this resolved: by moving my mailboxes to a willing relative's account, so that i can retain the addresses while closing my account with them. he agreed and then said, oh by the way i can't help you, i'm ... (some other department). he transferred me. that person couldn't help me either. he also transferred me. i was on hold but gave up. tomorrow i'll try the last # again. you are now completely up to date. i understand that my name and address may be provided to the service provider - no problem with that. i am also happy to have this posted but only without identifying info such as name, street address or e-mail address. location (evanston) is fine.
Description of Work: I've had e-mail w/AT&T since 2002 + dial up. I've given up the dial up but have kept my e-mail. In May they changed over to use a yahoo overlay, with much outcry from customers for a poorly done process, and customer service. in my case, i had recently switched my service to the least expensive mail-only option ($7.95 mo.). However, in the process of changing over to the yahoo interface, i was forced to agree to paying $15.95 for either dial up or internet, but I use neither. My ISP is comcast, my mailboxes are on AT&T as a legacy from when I used dial up. I assumed I'd be able to reset this to the $7.95 option, as I had just done in April but that option was nowhere to be found under the MyAccount settings. I then sent e-mail to customer service and called numerous times. About a month ago I finally got to someone who could help me. He promised to credit my account for the difference. That never materialized. Rather, my AMEX card was still billed at $15.95/month. I called AMEX and asked them to straighten it out since I'd had no luck. They appeared to - I got some credit on my bill. However, with no warning, my AT&T accounts were suspended. People writing to these address get bounced mail with the info that my account has been suspended. They did provide a facility for moving my AT&T e-mail to yahoo, but that doesn't take care of all the bounced mail. It's Kafka but without the literary merit. Worse because I have yet to talk to person at AT&T who can help me with cleaning up the remainder of the mess they've left. The $60 above covers the internet service, not the headaches they've caused with lost and bounced e-mail.

My Internet has been shut off ever since they installed it. I have been very frustrated with them. I hope that they are able to clear this up because as of now I'm very irritated with them.

AT&T WILL BE SBC VERY SOON. MY SERVICE HAS BEEN GOOD; HOWEVER, THE INITIAL SET UP WAS VERY HARD. THEY SEND YOU A PACKAGE IN THE MAIL & LEAVE IT UP TO THE CUSTOMER TO INSTALL. THE MONTHLY RATE IS TYPICAL OF $30 PER MONTH.

I LIKE THAT ITS CHEAPER THAN AOL, BUT THERE IS ONLY 150 HOURS PER MONTH. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT I FIND ANNOYING. THE FIRST IS THERE IS AN OPTION BAR ON THE SCREEN. IT CAN BE MOVED BUT NOT MINIMIZED. SOMETIMES THE CONNECTION SEEMS TOO SLOW AND GETS REALLY SLOW WHEN DOWNLOADING A FILE. I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH AOL. THERE MUST NOT BE A LOT OF BANDWIDTH.
