Lester was professional and took the time to explain the damage and what he could and couldn't do during a short visit. Since the damage was caused by a leak in the main line, he had to open the wall but he apologized for having to do so, which was so kind, considering that he had no other choice.

We have been doing business with American Vintage Home for the last twelve years. We bought our first Space Pak system from them in 2005 and serviced it every year since. We just replaced the system and as usual had great service from their team. Their attention to detail including covering the floors and cleaning up after the installation was second to none !! We highly recommend American Vintage Home.

It went very smoothly. The estimate was very thorough, the follow up on my questions immediate, the work amazing, clean and on time. The outcome was a very great system that has made our house extremely comfortable. We were very happy with the results and are glad we invested in this project for our home and used this company. I would trust them to do any project in our home in the future.

We came home from out-of-town to a very chilly house and an old furnace that had finally kicked the bucket. The next morning, American Vintage Home came out to quote us for a replacement and by the end of the following day, we had a new furnace. We did run into an issue - the new thermostat that came with the furnace would not turn on or control the air conditioner. The technician who installed the furnace spent over an hour playing with it and was unable to get it to work. As the clock hit 5 pm, he told me he didn't know what to do and he was going to leave. That didn't make me a happy customer. A few phone calls and days later, American Vintage Home sent the technician back out to put the old thermostat back on - and that one still worked on both the new furnace and old AC, so we left that on one. Disappointed that we couldn't get a new, programmable thermostat out of the deal, but they did issue a small credit back to me for the cost of the thermostat.

We were given options and decided to gut the bathroom, and replace all the the plumbing and fixtures. AVH completed the work on schedule and Jack was very helpful coordinating installation of the fixtures ordered at Menards and Home Depot. We would use them again.

It went very well. We used AVH before to replace our AC system and we were very pleased. Replacing the boiler was a big job and we took advantage of a pre-season sale and bought a state-of-the-art high-efficiency system. Their employees always show up when they say they will and are careful not to track dirt through our home. They explain everything ahead of time and are very professional, very well-trained technicians. After the installation, we did hear a loud hum when it was really cold outside. Dimitry came out promptly, and spent some time troubleshooting the issue and fixed it. He is very knowledgeable and we have great confidence in him. We are impressed with how analytical the technicians are. They really take their time to analyze the home and come up with a personalized solution. They've been a great resource for us and our 1920's bungalow. AVH is a top-notch operation! We highly recommend them.

We HIGHLY recommend AVH. Beautiful workmanship by courteous and knowledgeable professionals. They were conscientious in keeping the work space and our entire house clean. They came when they said they would and completed the work on time. No hidden fees and a fair price. The new equipment is marvelous, they returned to fine-tune the settings after a few days, and they provided us with clear and complete explanations of what they did and how to use the equipment. AVH is conscientious about providing an excellent service. Just nice people with whom to work.

Tech came out with out the equipment to perform the task looked at it and said they would not be able to fix it. Then they charged me $70 for coming out without any work done. I called into remove this charge, they said it would be canceled but then they sent the bill to collections. I've had to call in twice to get this issue resolved. I've been receiving calls from a collections agency. And I wasted an afternoon waiting for the tech who came without equipment. Giant waste of time, don't use this company.

The plumber who came out was courteous and appeared during the later half of the service window time, we ran the tub and flushed the toilet. He stated he heard a noise in the wall so there was a problem but it could not be assessed unless the walls are torn open. His rough estimate for the work ranged upwards $3500. He verified my email and said I would receive an estimate that would detail the work and cost of the job so I could make a decision. I waited a week and never received any correspondence. I can't attest to the quality of their work or the cost. The service call was free using their website coupon so that's the silver lining of the experience.

Their thoroughness and attention to detail was as appreciated as their professional demeanor. They looked for ways to keep the air-conditioning pipelines as unobtrusive as possible while causing as little disruption to our house as possible. They always showed up on time, cleaned up as the work was completed and communicated clearly. There is no question that we would highly recommend them.

We had an old boiler that was leaking small amounts of CO, and decided to go with a high efficient unit over replacing with a cast iron unit or repairing it, hoping that it would help with the gas bills and that it would last many years. We liked that American Vintage Home was upfront with the price after the initial walkthough; there were no upcharges or additions after the quote was given (though there was an issue with what I thought should have been included in the warranty but was not...read further). They were in the middle in terms of price from the few companies we received quotes from. They were also the least informative from all the companies we meet with, in terms of talking through the options and possible issues with the current boiler. But, they were the ones we meet with last, so maybe we already felt informed enough already and didn't ask as many questions. They were thorough in the walk through in measuring the house and the number of windows to determine the correct capacity of a new unit if we were to replace. The sales rep was thorough and prompt in answering any questions we had (about the specific units, what the different options were, what the different add-ones on the quote were, process, etc.). A week after paying the deposit, I had to get in touch to schedule the work (even though I was told by the sales rep that I would be contacted within the week after I inquired about the deposit check being received). After I made the initial contact, they were quick to respond, and the work was scheduled for a few weeks later. A couple days before the work was to begin, it was rescheduled due to extremely cold termperatures and the possibility of not having heat for a night. I appreciated the concern, and we rescheduled for a week later since it was not super urgent. The actual work went well. Everyone arrived on time, and we okayed for them to stay at the house until 8pm so that they wouldn't have to come back the following day. We weren't home for much of the day, but I believe they wore booties when they had to walk through the house (to check on / bleed radiators), and there was no dirt tracked around the house that I could see. The project manager (I believe that was his title) was very nice and easy to approach with any questions. The installation looks very nice and sleek. They forgot to add a drainage pipe, as we were informed by the installation manager when he came to check on the system a few weeks later. They were quick to call and set up an appointment to have that installed. The appointment was made for between 12-4. Unfortunately, the worker came at 10.30am, just as I was about to leave for an appointment. At first I wasn't going to answer the doorbell because I thought it was a delivery, then checked just to make sure. I didn't want to turn him away because I wanted the work done that day. It was a bit annoying to have to change my schedule around, but I was glad to have the work done. After having the unit for a few months, it is nice knowing no carbon monoxide is leaking. Having a direct vent high efficiency unit is not quite what I expected, though. The exhaust goes directly out through the basement wall rather than through the chimney, which I knew would be the case, but I don't really like the placement of the exhaust. It goes out under a family room window. So, while the boiler is on, we always had a little cloud in front of one of our windows. Maybe that was the only placement allowed for the exhaust due to code, but had I known there would be a little cloud there for most of the winter, I might have tried to explore other placement options with the installation team. Also, after going through a winter with the new unit, the gas bills haven't changed much. I thought they would be significantly lower, but on average there were actually slightly higher than the previous unit, so we'll have to figure out what I said going on with that. Also, soon after the drainage pipe was installed, I noticed some of the radiators were "glugging" and/or creaking/knocking. As it was just installed, I thought any work would be covered under the warranty. I thought maybe the radiators just needed to be bled more. When I called to ask if someone could take a look at it, they wanted to charge a $79 service charge, then if any work needed to be done, that would be included under the warranty. I didn't really want to pay any more after paying thousands of dollars to have it installed, and the heat was working, so I just let it go. That I was a bit annoyed about, but overall, the service from American Vintage Home was pretty good.

They have done a lot for us in the past. They put in space duct and heating, they gutted and installed our upstairs bathroom, they replaced our forced heating (we have 2 systems in our home), they replaced our forced air furnace, and they replaced our other kind of air conditioning which is a more traditional. So, they have done tons of this for us and they do our yearly maintenance. They replaced our boiler because we have radiators as well as forced air. We interact with them to schedule our maintenance, but we get a heating and air conditioning inspection every year and then they come out and do any maintenance that needs to be done the same time they do the inspection, change out filters, etc etc. The cost of that service would of been minimal because we have an on going fee that we pay them every month and that covers the service and you get a discount on parts and so forth. I don't know what we ended up paying because we had to have a part replaced. Because of the agreement, they service it self is covered. I would give them an "A" for price because of the quality of the service. I think they are incredibly good. We have referred them to a lot of people to them. The leave the are very clean. If we have plumbing issue we use them. If we would have issues like we had them come over and gave us a quote for gutting and redoing our downstairs bathroom. If we have any HVAC stuff, we would have them do that. Any and all of those things we would use them for, because they just do an incredibly good job. They are not the cheapest providers, but they do an extremely good job.

The communication and installation was flawless from start to finish, we couldn't be more pleased! Bruce came to measure, make drawings, and give us detailed cost estimates for both Spacepak and Unico which were clear and designed to meet the cooling needs of our home and layout. He was readily available by phone to answer questions, clarify, and assist us with his thoughts and recommendations. Demetri was project manager and he came before installation to consult with us on the best location for things such as the condenser, thermostat, air return, and air duct placement. He also came after installation was completed to check the installation, to be sure everything worked as it should, and give us detailed instructions on the use of the system, and home-owner maintenance duties. Jacek and one assistant did the complete installation with great communication, care, and efficiency. As Jacek got into the installation, he explained to us in detail and in advance when he had to modify the installation based on gaining more detailed knowledge of our specific home with it's unique layout and construction, and when there were choices for us to be involved with. They put great effort into all aspects of the installation, treating our home as if it was their own. They arrived on time, worked long days, cleaned up after themselves, did not cause any damage, and were never a bother to us or our dog. The entire team from American Vintage Home was very professional and a pleasure to work with. We are expecting that the system will function optimally once summer arrives and we begin to use it, however we have a one year warranty to give us peace of mind that it will be fine. We plan to have them do yearly maintenance on our new A/C system and have them replace our old whole house humidifier next October or November. We cannot recommend them strongly enough to others who expect competent, reliable, well mannered professionals working on their home!

They called to confirm when they were going to be there. They showed up on time. They set expectations of what exactly as they were doing the work. We weren't certain exactly of what needed to be done, so they would check in with me to let me know what was being done. Managed my exceptions as to what it was going to cost because they cut holes in my walls and then cleaned everything up, and took everything out. They were relatively quick, but they cleaned up after themselves. They did a good job. They also went through a number of different steps to make sure that there weren't any other issues because they came in to fix a leak and had to replace a broken pipe. They wanted to make sure that when they found the brake in the pipe that they replaced there wasn't any other issues so they wouldn't have to come back.

They strongly promoted a digital redundant low water cutoff which has been very problematic. Most of their technicians do not understand how it works; the one who does, was here many times. (He would rate a B or A; most of their techs a C or D.) Now the warranty has expired. Another consultant discovered a disconnected wire that was causing some of the problems. A.V. were called in November when the warranty was still applicable but did not solve the problem long-term. In my opinion I got "learned on" with a product that was still experimental and they had not properly vetted.

As always, American Vintage Home stayed in clear and frequent communication with us, and the removal/disposal of the old boiler, the installation of the new boiler, and the Village inspection went as predicted. In addition, during high heat demand, the new boiler made a loud fan noise. American Vintage Home promptly scheduled service, ordered the replacement part, installed it and everything is running as it is meant to. We will continue on their service plan, knowing that we can rely on their word, communication process, and equipment guarantee.
Description of Work: Our old boiler that had been near its last gasp finally died. American Vintage Home installed it originally, and we have been on their service plan for over 20 years. The old boiler had some technology that was basically obsolete, so when the thermal element rusted, we naturally turned to American Vintage Home to replace it.

We received a mailer from American Vintage Home last Fall for a deal on a pre-season boiler replacement. Bruce came to the house to check out our system and provided a quote that day. He gave several options for our super-inefficient boiler and water heater, and gave us plenty of time to review the quote and research our options. Once we agreed to the quote, Bruce came back to the house so we could sign the contract and he also collected our deposit that day, making it very convenient for us. The install was scheduled about two weeks out from when we provided our deposit, and it was then rescheduled due to installer availability for the following week. Despite the delay, our installer was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and explained every step of the processes to us and gave us a full tour of the work done. They replaced the boiler, the water heater, and all the necessary piping. They also drained the entire radiator system and bled each of the radiators to ensure even heat throughout the house. The process took two days, but the technician also stayed beyond the expected time on the first day to ensure that our heat was turned back on before he left. A manager came out a few weeks after the install to inspect and sign off on the work. Everyone we interacted with was professional and transparent, and the products and services are fairly priced. We plan to use American Vintage Home again in the future.

They didn't do anything. They came and looked and it and told me they couldn't do anything, because the plumbing shop was closed. They didn't charge me anything. I feel better about that. Since I have used them, I have had 4 visits in the past year. They could tell people that they ain't going to be able to fix stuff cuz the stupid plumbing shop is closed because of New Year's, that would be a start. The second thing is, if they come once and then have to come again, they should plan for the second visit so there doesn't have to be a third visit. I had my wall open special for them, and turns out they didn't need the wall open. I don't know what it takes to diagnose what was wrong with this, but apparently the wall had to be in place to diagnose it. It was caused by opening up the wall to put in a tub. Which wasn't their fault. Then it started leaking into the apartment below, it took 2 trips to diagnose, and then a third to fix it. It required a part. I can't grade the technical proficiency, but I know that they got it fixed. I know that it was complicated, but it would be nice if it took fewer than three visits to close something. I have another thing they can do better. They give me a window and then they want to come before the window. Which I understand some customers might like, since we are working people, and so they call me at work and my wife is home so I tell them to call the home, and then they send the plumber here even though they didn't get an answer. That is what they did on Friday. They did this thing previously, and it worked out ok, but it requires a bunch of shuffling stuff. When they book an appointment, I don't expect a 12-4 plumber to be here at 10:30. That's not how things are structured. So, if they could knock that off, that would be nice too. IT shouldn't be me running around to accommodate the plumber, the plumber should. If I set a schedule they should keep the schedule. Too early can be as bad as late. I have had them here 4 times, and they have shuffled my window 3 times. Either early or late.

American Vintage Home was responsive and came quickly to inspect the basement and formulate an estimate. Jack spent a lot of time talking with me, then studying the basement on his own. He would up recommending two drain tile and sump pump systems and explained the value of this approach in clear language. The estimate he wrote up was precise and detailed, for which I was grateful. To his great credit, he ran a camera through my sanitary line during the estimate to collect more information, and discovered a serious crack where the sanitary line enters the house. This crack had been missed by a good area plumbing outfit when they replaced two separate collapsed sections of my sanitary line in the front yard on an expensive dig just months earlier. While in the end we decided to go with the bid from another basement flood proofing concern based on experience and price, American Vintage Home provided a very competitive bid and provided information that was invaluable to us.
Description of Work: After an area flood, our basement needed some flood proofing solution. We weren't sure exactly how the water was entering the house, so considerable detective work was needed.

I hired this company based on an ad they placed last year. The company initially refused to honor the ad, but with the intervention of Angie's list, they honored the ad. They reluctantly did the work. This year, the same company placed an ad for $99 for rodding. When I called them, I pointed out that they rodded the line last year for $99. I said that I wanted to use the Angie's list coupon for rodding again as routine maintenance of the sewer line. American Vintage then gave me a quote of $425. When I mentioned the ad in Angie's list, they said that the ad did not apply to rodding for routine maintenance, but only to "clear a sewer line" Since the rodding would be the same whether the line needs "clearing" or routine maintenance, I asked them to honor their coupon. Then, American Vintage tried to sell me camera inspection and said that an engineer would still need to come to my home to give an updated estimate. When I pointed out that they power rodded the same line less than 12 months ago, they still said that prices could change based on their camera inspection. Please be warned - The $99 ad is a bait and switch. These people are dishonest and only place ads in Angie's list to up-sell services or to sell services that you don't need. These people should be barred from placing deceptive ads in Angie's list.
Description of Work: Sewer Rodding.

Response from American Vintage Home Heating Cooling & Plumbing
Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I want to thank you for your insightful review. I was able to look into your previous visit (last year), and was able to listen to the phone conversation you had with our CSR for this years visit. I would like to take a moment to clear up the miscommunication. Last year when you used a coupon the wording on the coupon was not so clear so we honored your needs. We felt that we did not clearly identify the coupons purpose and because of that we felt that we should do the right thing and honor it. Regardless of our loss, we believe that taking care of our customers the most important thing we can do. This year when you called to inquire about the coupon it clearly states that for $99.00 we will unclog and restore flow to your drain (interior drain or sewer drain). You wanted a maintenance rodding of your sewer system which is a different service. Our company policy is to offer our customers a FREE camera inspection of their sewer system and provide them with an estimate to perform the rodding. This is at no cost or obligation to you. We do this because there are several variables that could be causing you sewer system to under-perform. With a camera we can survey your entire system and give you the best possible options to addressing the underlining issues. We do not believe in bait or switch; we simply believe in being upfront with our customers. American Vintage Home will always do the right thing just like we did last year for you when we made the mistake. I can assure you that if we had made a mistake again, we would have gladly honored the coupon, and preformed the rodding for $99.00. If you have any other questions, or would like to discuss this matter please feel free to call me at 847-251-5255 Sincerely, Richard Eberle Operations Manager American Vintage Home, Inc.
