Thanks to a squirrel who decided to make a home in our attic, we discovered we had a mold problem in the attic.  We used a mold remediation company to remove the mold. But we found that we had major ventilation problems that made our attic susceptible to mold growth and we wanted to fix them correctly to be sure that the mold would not return.  I got many estimates from contractors and roofers - some saying that we had to replace sections of our roof - but I still did not have confidence that the ventilation problems would really be solved.  I contacted James Pruyn of Midwest Energy Systems who came out right away and really analyzed our attic.  He spent a lot of time looking around and understanding our attic's problems and made a detailed proposal.  Because James has a degree in mechanical engineering and other training in energy auditing he explained how warm, most air from our house was entering our attic through our attic door, our bathroom vents, and other openings from the ceiling.  He showed us how inadequate airflow in our attic made for a perfect environment for the mold growth.  He also was the only contractor who proposed doing testing before and after his work including a blower door test.  Even with the additional testing, his quote was very reasonable and in line with the other estimates we received.   He did a lot of work for us including:  sealing the points of leakage between our living space and the attic and conducting a blower door test before and after, replacing our broken attic fan, routing our bathroom vents so the exhaust goes outside not in our attic, installing an insulated shroud over our attic door, cleaning out the eave vents and installing baffle shoots to prevent insulation from blocking the air flow, adding cellulose insulation, and installing storage platforms above the insulation.   James was very professional and easy to work with. He was flexible when his work schedule was thrown off a little by the stubborn squirrel who really resisted leaving our attic.   It was very nice to have one contractor with so much knowledge and expertise that he could handle the whole scope of our attic ventilation project and we had confidence that he was making sure it was done right.  I would definitely use Midwest Energy Systems again and highly recommend them.

We called Midwest Energy Systems because we were experiencing widely varying temperatures in one room of our house. We had tried replacing the windows, furnace, etc but with no luck. We were referred to Midwest Energy Systems by a friend who had used them to do some hvac service and they wound up solving their comfort issues. To say we were surprised and happy with their service is an understatement. As stated, we have used other companies and spent lots of money on meaningless home improvements as we tried to resolve why our daughter's room would never be the same temperature of the other rooms. Midwest Energy Systems came in and really solved our problem by measuring our air flows and re-purposing some ventilation. It was much easier than we had thought it would be. We are very happy with results!!
