They called to tell they were coming. Tim looked at the sump pump and suggested that they usually change a flipper valve or something at the same time. He explained why and how it works. He didn't pressure me to get it and installed the new sump pump. He also shared what to expect; more running with the new pump. He shared other things that he could help with replacing a vanity when needed and other items like heating and air. Tim was very nice and got the work done quick.
I was loosely quoted a cost of ~$2,300 for a complete ION Products primary/backup with battery and intelligent control unit setup, and I will say they do an excellent job at selling pumps in general... I was not prepared to spend $2,300 for a complete system, but I was about to pull the trigger on an ION StormPro WC-33i 1/3 HP primary pump (no secondary or battery back-up) from Lifeline when I was hit with (what I felt was) an amazingly high price tag of $640, but since I was an "Angie's List" customer I would receive a 20% off discount, which brought it down to $530. I was also told that I could only get the ION StormPro WC-33i pump through an authorized dealer like themselves because it was a commercial grade device which was being targeted at residential. Well thank goodness for Google... I went online and found that I could buy the exact pump being offered for $219.
When I inquired why I was being charged SO much, I was told I needed to speak with the plumbers supervisor to work out a better deal. I spoke to the supervisor and he told me that there is more to the cost other than just the parts, for which I COMPLETELY understand. My main issues revolves around the simplicity of putting in a new sump pump and that I'm scratching my head trying to understand how an hours worth of labor (if that) makes up the additional $300 they are charging me. I told them that I would be willing to purchase the pump and their service, but for a much lower and reasonable amount than what they wanted to charge me. Additionally, this same company has another Angie's List deal listed for a new 1/3 HP pump installed with warranty for $296... This was never mentioned to me as an option when I was trying to get a lower price for their product/services. In the end I told them to close up my sump pit and that I would take care of replacing the pump myself.
The very next morning I went to Home Depot and purchased a Primary/Backup 1/2 HP combo pump and battery back-up for all of $600 and an hour later had it installed. $600 is a FAR CRY from the ~$2,300 price tag I was loosely given for a similar setup by Lifeline. In the end and if you can, you're probably better off doing a sump pump replacement yourself... You'll get what you asked for and at a fraction of the cost.
I really do not like being so critical in a publicly viewed review, but I really feel that may have been trying to take advantage of us and this information should be shared. Who knows it may be a one-off situation, but I would definitely have Google ready to check them on costs for your own self assurance.
"Dear member, Thank you for your feedback. I know your experience was not what you wanted, but I’m glad to hear you found what you were looking for, and were able to put them in yourself! At lifeline plumbing we provide stainless steel professional grade sump pump systems, not the lesser quality plastic systems you find at the home stores. Our company is in business to help the people who are unable or not comfortable to perform plumbing services on their own. We take pride and stand behind our services and the quality products we provide at a reasonable cost. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or further explanation of our services. Again, thank you for the opportunity. sincerely, Mike D. Lifeline Plumbing"
He called me when the job was complete to let me know everything went well. I also spoke with Jamie in the office.
I requested some pictures & she got them to me instantly. Both were very nice people to deal with. I would hire this
company again.
I was very impressed with Steve. I will definitely call Lifeline again and will recommend them to my friends.
We wanted an estimate for installation of filtration and a distiller. Steve went into great detail as to what work we might need and what the options were. He recommended installation of an outlet on it's own breaker for the distiller so that it wouldn't cause any issues with pumps that are on the other circuits if the distiller were to cause the breaker to trip. He also suggested that we get our water tested to determine hardness as a water softener may also be required.
At this time, we have not yet had any plumbing work completed. We will definitely contact Steve when we are ready to have our systems installed.
Extremely professional technician (Steve).
Steve was very knowledgeable and nice: he knew the sump pumps inside out and gave me a lot of details about the advantages and benefits of some pumps over others. He took great care in his work and did a meticulous job. It took him about 3 hours to complete the job. Steve also made sure everything was cleaned before he left.
I ended up upgrading to a higher quality sump pump than the one I was originally planning to get installed.
I highly recommend Lifeline Plumbing to anyone looking for a good plumber. I will certainly use them again in the future. This was my first experience hiring someone I found on Angie's list and I look forward to looking for more great service providers!
