Plumber came in and said he had to cut drywall. Customer complained that it was messy and expensive to cut drywall. Plumber worked extra hard to make it clean, fast and inexpensive.
Description of Work: Horrific pipe leak buried in a wall. Plumber took excessive pains to minimize damage getting to hidden pipe. Plumber worked very quickly and efficiently. Plumber cleaned work area after done. Worth every penny.

As noted above, since company did not call me back, I won't be using them at all in the future!
Description of Work: Called to get information about replacing a water heater. Woman on the phone asked a variety of questions and then said she would look into availability of a water heater and then would call me back. Price seemed a little expensive since it included cost of heater and variety of hourly rates. I can only wonder how expensive they might have been in light of all the details related to cost (e.g., no. of men). However, since I did not use them, I don't know what the final price would have been so I can't give them a "D" or "F." It is now two to three days later and I was NEVER called back! I will be using another company from Angie's List (flat rate) and will provide feedback after the work has been done.

Called out to track down and repair source of water damage in walls. Punched a 2'X 1' hole in closet wall without resolution of the problem. Then summized that the problem was a leak from the shower stall adjacent to the bedroom and closet(which I told him that's what I suspected when he first walked through the door). Charged me $259.00 and left (leaving a hole in the closet wall). Later, the "Boss" came over to give me an estimate for the repair of the plumbing under the shower stall floor (which it was never established needed repair) and told me to hire a contractor to fix the hole in the wall.
Description of Work: Spent 2 1/2 hours on site; 1 hour punching a hole in the closet wall. The other 1 1/2 hrs. pondering.

Very pleased to have everything fixed. Nine and a half hours of labor seemed like it took them awhile to cap the two pipes and complete the other work. They discovered the broken closet bend, for which I'm thankful. They were very professional, were prompt, explained everything they were doing and insuring all work was in line with existing codes, and cleaned up afterwards.
Description of Work: House rehabbed 30 years ago, and those folks simply busted off bathtub drain pipe and toilet closet bend when they removed the full bath on the main floor. Water was leaking into ceiling in basement bath, as well as sewer gas smell. I already removed the drywall in the ceiling. Power capped the open tub drain pipe. They also needed to break off the toilet closet bend, and cap that, too. In addition, an outside faucet was frozen. They replaced the sillcock, and installed a shut-off valve, with a drain down valve to insure I can get all water out of the pipe.

Scott came to the house and was pleasant from the beginning. He was informative and walked through the entire process from the beginning. Told me what he was removing in my disposal and did the job in 15 minutes. He cleared the jam, and even gave me advice on how to make sure it doesn't happen again. I also had an issue with my toilet, it had a slow drain and he offered some advice on how to fix that and it works great now. He was extremely professional, I have already recommended this company to my family.

Outstanding. The old faucets (only 8 years old, but builder-specials) leaked and had a terrible flow rate. New ones (which I purchased seperately) worked great -- great water flow, smooth operation, no leaks.

Well-dressed, well-mannered reps. Arrived on time, completely equipped. Demoed old plumbing/pipes. Efficiently installed new plumbing, water and gas to new design specs. Also searched for existing water cut-offs for condo that did not not have any designated. Didn't find them for bathrooms, good to know! Installed new cut-offs on both showers. Cleaned up site as they worked, worked quietly allowing me to work from home both days.

I contacted Power Plumbing on a Sunday evening around 4:30pm. My husband and I had come home after our birthing class to discover water gushing out of the ceiling in our guest bedroom closet. We couldn't remember where the shut-off valve to the water was. The Power Plumbing representative calmly walked us through the process of shutting off the valve before dispatching a plumber to our location. He arrived within 45 minutes. He quickly located the leak in the ceiling with minimal damage to the drywall, fixed the pipe and installed a shut-off valve to prevent this from occurring again in the future. The plumber, Lavonn, was courteous, clean, smart, and diligent. We felt so lucky to have him there. I would not hesitate to use Power Plumbing for all of my future plumbing needs, emergency or otherwise.

Within 30 minutes of my call, they sent a wonderful young man who knew exactly what to do. With the weather outside very severe and with many emergencies - he did a fantastic job!! I am a loyal customer.

The plumber was extremely attentive to testing and though the process was tricky (the exterior wall is behind my cabinets in the kitchen) he managed to hear bursts where I certainly would not have. He explained what he was doing and informed me of how to prevent it in the future. Though I wish I didn't have to have this experience it couldn't have been better with Powers.
Description of Work: I lost water in my kitchen last Sunday, so decided to turn off the water to the kitchen and wait for it to thaw. When the weather wasn't warming up I called Powers on Friday asking about coming out on Saturday to thaw out the pipe. They told me they could so on Saturday at time and a half and my plumber arrived (a little behind schedule due to a previous emergency). Last year they had fixed a burst (in the exterior wall of the kitchen) which I hadn't drywalled so I pulled out the oven and the pipe that had been fixed last year was broken. The plumber first fixed that and then thawed out the cold water pipe, then the hot, and throughout the experience ended up fixing five other bursts and spending 9.5 hours finding/testing/fixing them all.

Called on Saturday morning and arranged appointment for later in the day since with the cold snap there are many Chicagoans with frozen pipes. Received a call in the early afternoon that the plumber was on his way. Mike was very courteous and efficient. The thawing machine that heats up the pipe worked within a minute. Water was flowing and fortunately we caught it before there was pipe damage. Received tips on how to prevent future incidents. Seemed like a lot of money for 15 minutes work but it was a Saturday at overtime rates. I was glad they didn't have to tear holes in my drywall. They quoted the price accurately over the phone. Overall a good experience.

We called Power at 2:40pm & the plumber (Levon) arrived at 3:15pm. Levon was very courteous & professional. We told him our basement / first floor heater was broken for the last 2 days. Levon and I worked together to try and figure out and resolve the leak. Unfortunately, when the work was done at 7:00pm and Levon was preparing the invoice, Rae Lynn told him to write 4 3/4 hours (one hour more than worked at $178/hour). I caught the error and pointed it out to Levon, who called Rae Lynn back. After a couple of calls, she "credited" $98 off of the bill (far short of the full hourly rate). Though I did not speak with Rae Lynn directly, I was able to hear her "justification" of the time to Levon and other remarks and I was unpleasantly surprised by how she handled the matter. I none-the-less paid the bill and tipped Levon for his service, but given the way in which the billing was blatantly mishandled and overcharged, I do not intend to use Power, again. Check your bill carefully!
Description of Work: Locate and fix burst pipe or other source of water leak (noticed water dripping through basement ceiling). The plumber (Levon) cut numerous large holes in areas of the drywalled ceiling to locate the source of the water then determined I would have to tear out part of the woodwork in our wine cellar to rule out a possible culprit. Without other options, I tore out the woodwork (Levon said he's not permitted to), but after doing so, Levon determined that it was not where the leak was located. I worked with him to try and figure out the problem. Finally, I pointed out a very wet area in one of the holes that was below our kitchen fridge. We went up to the kitchen, confirmed that the water line to the fridge was the problem, and shut down the line. The source of the leak was, understandably confusing, and Levon tried his best to figure it out.

This was my best Angie's List experience ever! We discovered our frozen pipes on Friday and called Power at 6:30 pm. It is now 8:30 pm, and Mike has unfrozen the pipes plus he checked out a number of minor other plumbing issues we had. Mike was so courteous and polite, and even took his shoes off when entering our house. I will recommend them to everyone and use them again.

Power saved us. We had a flood apparently caused by tree roots clogging the line. They came the same day we made an emergency call to Rae who is a thoroughly professional office manager. Gus and Mike worked into the night to get us functional and they were great in every respect. They could not guarantee their work because additional sewer work needed to be done. Power gave us recommendations on how they would handle that additional work.In the end we used another company to install a clean out valve and re-pipe the sewer but only because the other Angie's List company specialized in sewer work. We would definitely use Power for all of our future plumbing needs as we found them professional in every way.

After I plunged, snaked, and poured chemicals in, I still couldn't unclog the toilet. In my desperation I called Power Plumbing and even agreed (since I was only going to be home that one day) to pay for "emergency" late night service. The company went all out to try and get a plumber during normal hours and actually succeeded, even after I had agreed to pay them time and a half. For a company to give up extra money says a lot for them. The plumber got the clog, made sure it stayed open, and even measured the bathroom in case I wanted to eventually buy a better toilet.

Power Plumbing did a fantastic job. Rae Lynn is delightful on the phone, and Scott and Mike were neat, thorough, on time, polite, and professional.
Description of Work: Scott & Mike from Power Plumbing repaired a cast iron vent stack that had a very deteriorated section and was causing a sewer smell from time to time inside our house. It was a fairly large job which involved demoing the wall. Scott also removed an existing toilet and attempted to replace it with a new one we had purchased. Unfortunately the new toilet was the wrong rough-in size. Scott explained that older houses generally have 10'' rough-ins and most toilets are now 12''. We purchased a 10'' that he installed today.

Power Plumbing came out within hours of my contacting them. They told me the price over the phone. It took about 30 seconds to clear the drain. The service man was very pleasant. However they charged $140, after Angie's List discount of 10%, which was very high. I had the same service done not too long ago for $90. I would use them again because of the promptness and quality of service, but only after comparing prices with other firms.

I hired Power Plumbing to initially route out the lines, install the new sink and install a dishwasher line. When Dave came to my house, he took one look at the kitchen plumbing and immediately told me there were problems. This was not a total surprise to me as our house has a lot of DIY projects from the previous owner. I was in the middle of a kitchen renovation and had scheduled countertops to be installed that afternoon. I postponed the countertops and Power Plumbing was able to work with me to have their staff at my house the next morning for three days to completely rework all the plumbing in the kitchen to the main line in the basement. This involved cutting drywall, installation of new pipe, etc. It was a big job and I was very happy that they worked so hard to get everything done well but without any delays.

I doubt if the guy that showed up was even a plumber. One of the unit owners was later able to figure out in five minutes that it wasn't a shower pipe that was leaking but a kitchen pipe. If you run the shower, the water doesn't even drain down the same pipe so of course it didn't leak when he tried running the shower in only one unit. I am not sure what he did for the 1 1/2 hours he charged us for but since he did not seem to know what he was doing, did not make any real effort to diagnose the problem, and recommended something that was completely inappropriate for the problem I feel like we should get a refund. I would not recommend any company that operates this way. Their Angie's list reward is displayed prominently on their invoice, I almost feel like contacting the Better Business Bureau about them.
Description of Work: Our condominium building had a leaking pipe in the basement. Three units feed the pipe which it was initially thought came from the shower. The plumber was shown exactly where the pipe was leaking. He ran the shower in one unit and the pipe did not leak. He did not attempt to run the showers or water in any other units or possible sources of the leak such as the kitchen. I am not sure what he did for the 1 1/2 hours he charged us for since he was unable to diagnose the problem. Instead he recommended having the pipe (not the pipe that was leaking but a different pipe) rodded which would require spending an additional $202 and would not have fixed the problem.
