My sewer line sheered off 12" outside my house last weekend. Monday morning I started calling plumbers from Angie's list of Chicago area plumbers. I live in Joliet, so I didn't expect that Power Plumbing would perform the work, but due to their great feedback, I expected they could give direct me to a plumber in my area that could help. Left a message and a few hours later one of their guys called me. Let me just say, I should be adding this guy to my Christmas card list! I described the situation and he gave me a price quote that was in line with what the other 3 plumbers had quoted me. However, when I mentioned that I had already uncovered the pipe and confirmed the break, he proceeded to give me step by step instructions on how to do the repair myself, including the addition of an outside cleanout. I was stunned. This was just the bit if information I needed to boost my confidence that I could tackle the job. This saved me between $1200 and $2000, depending on who would have done the work. Incredibly helpful guy and I'd certainly call Power again.

It was easy to get a Saturday appointment which was very helpful. The worker volunteered to view a previously taken video of the sewer line to give me a second opinion of the condition of the sewer. He gave me some good recommendations and a container of material to prevent root growth in the sewer. Very courteous and professional.
Description of Work: The workers performed a preventive maintenance cleanout of my sewer line from an outside port, I wasn't having any problems.

This project was a nightmare due to the difficulty in working with two other property owners and getting permitting. Eventually it needed to be scaled down to just include my property. Powers staff person, Pat Flarity, was fantastic to work with throughout this long process.
Description of Work: Power installed a 72" catch basin in a 12 car parking lot in back of my rental property. They added three drain tiles, and tied into an existing line.

Called co. was told only charge would be for service performed only and plumber would call when on his way. Plumber showed up with no prior phone call, fortunately I was home. Plumber rodded sink line in basement. Told me I had some old piping that needed to be replaced with PVC pipe in order to avoid future blockage. Gave me an estimate for that work. I told him I would consider it in the future and the rodding he did was sufficient for the day as it took care of the problem. As part of the piping was old, the plumber stated he could not provide a warranty for the work he did should it back up again. I told him I understand. I was presented a bill for rodding, using the rodder machine and for travel expenses as he came from Chicago. I told him rep I talked to did not inform me of machine charges or travel charges on the bill. Plumber called rep and she told him she forgot to mention these charges to me. Plumber was not happy as he would not be paid for his travel time. I was happy that the company honored what they had told me over the phone and I would only be responsible for services performed. The plumber was thorough in his work and I have no complaints with the job done. I would not use the company again because they are expensive if you have to pay for travel. I can find plumbers closer to home that would be cheaper.

They came out really quickly for the first job. They were the first to come out and were very responsive and professional on the phone. They identified the problem correctly as an emergency over the phone. Because of this positive interaction I called them when I smelled a gas leak. They sent out a man name Bob who had a gas detector and identified a gas leak from underneath our dishwasher. He charged us $880 for the first day of work. They opened up a couple of walls and the floors seeking the source of the gas leak. They identified its likely source as the joint between two pipes behind the wall. They came back the following day and charged $1000 to replace the pipe with an alternate. They claimed to have tested our gas line with a pressure test and found that the leak they had identified was fixed. However, within a couple of days, we noticed the same smell of gas still coming out from underneath the dishwasher. After more than $1800 of work, I felt that they should come out free of charge and test to see if there was still a gas leak. The whole reason I called them was to fix a gas leak and it was not fixed. At this point, I had not yet received the invoice for the second day. I left a voice mail saying I was more than happy to pay for the second day, but I felt that they should not charge to come out and retest, and if they found an additional leak, they should fix it free of charge. I got a call back from Bob, who I could overhear as he hung up the phone say "she doesn't want to pay", which was not what I said. I called back to clarify that I was willing to pay, but I would like them to come out and test for gas free of charge. She said she would check Bob's schedule and call me back. I have not heard from them.
Description of Work: The first job was 148$ - they found the source of a water leak and replaced the valve. The second job was to fix a gas leak.

The water main turned out really well. The shower turned out to not be a plumbing problem, so I appreciated their diagnosis although I would have been happier if I had been able to determine it was not a plumbing problem rather than paying for the service call. They are a little expensive, but they are very good and they are very responsive. They are all licensed plumbers, and I would use them again.

Called for service on a Sunday. We understood time and half + 2 hour minimum requirement and agreed to service ($500 total as quoted over the phone). Tech showed within in the hour (good), replaced thermocouple but still could not get water heater working (bad) because they didn't have new gas valve, as the technician assumed that was the broken part. He claimed they were plumbers and were normally responsible to getting water/gas TO the unit but they weren't responsible for parts ON the unit (funny, considering he had a thermocouple on his truck). We provided a check for $520 ($500 for 2 hours of labor + $20 for part). Given that he was in the house for 15 mins and didn't get us working, I tried to get a break on the labor by presenting the Angies List coupon but he wouldn't accept it, saying that I was already getting a discount on the labor. I had no way of knowing this other than taking his word but the Angies coupon simply says "10% of labor" with no restrictions on day of week, number of hours, other discounts, etc. So I have two gripes: (1) if I describe the symptoms in detail, why show for the job when you normally don't have parts to fix non-plumbing i$$ues? Clearly, I had described a set of non-plumbing issues (2) In an attempt to get some kind of a break on $520 for 15 mins of work, I was quoted a price and they wouldn't accept the coupon. Be very careful when negotiating price with these guys, assuming you use them ... which we never will again.

PowerPlumbing came out on a Saturday night for a hot date with some sewage that was backed up into our basement. Levon and his partner did an excellent job from start to finish getting our building functional until work could begin on the extensive repairs we needed during standard labor hours. We went with PowerPlumbing for the repairs and were nothing but impressed with Levon, Britt, and all of the workers that helped our building. They were up front, honest, and very fairly priced. We also appreciated that they use eco-friendly methods and suggested some eco-friendly cleaners for us to use.

I have been using them for 10 years. I had them out to $6,000 worth of work. The next day we had a rain storm and ended up with $10,000 in damages. I had not had a flood in the apartment building since I purchased it 10 years ago. They deny that the problem had anything to do with the work that was completed by them the prior day. I am now in fear that if I get another rain storm I will have this problem again because the rain is coming in through the plumbing that they repaired. This problem did not exist prior to the repairs they made.
Description of Work: I had them out to fix a very small leak in a storage room in the apartment building I own. They offered that while they were there that they would check out the rest of the plumbing, because they had been fair with me in the past I did not think that they were looking to create a false problem. They found a problem that had not arose yet and I allowed them to go ahead and do the repair.

They did a great job. We had a big home in Chicago. We had the hose which could be connected from outside which was the water spigot. The copper pipe wasn't fixed properly inside the house. So, the spigot was turned off and water kind of rushed in the pipes. This happened over the winter when it was freezing. Then my husband turned the water on for the first time in May and it burst the pipe and there was water all over our basement. However, the plumber came and fixed the problem right away. We had used their services before too in 2003 or 2004 in a condo that we had and they had done a good job then. So, we thought we would hire them again. They are not the cheapest people, but they do good quality work.

I have used them in the past and the work is quality though I always thought it was expensive and even praised them on Angies List twice under an old account. I dropped about $13K in the past to have them replumb a foreclosed house. This summer we were doing renovations and I wanted them to re-route a gas. While looking at the job they noticed an exposed wall and said then need to revent/ Plumb the entire 3rd floor bathroom to the tune of $5K and 3 days. I brought in 2 more companies both Union and they said the exact same thing: Job was mis-assessed and overpriced. I got everything done for $1200 in a day. I then brought out my invoices from the past and showed them some of the work ....much of the same was said about the over-kill of the job. To spend 13K on plumbing in a SFH is a lot...it is not like they ran a new water line or sewer....they did replace a stack but in going over their work with the other plumbers they both said it was not to code as the PVC was tied directly into the cement....therefore it will probably crack at the base much sooner then it should. I realize this is a rant and debated long and hard before writing this....I guess if you use them make sure you get plenty of quotes first as there is plenty of good labor out there. For a short term fix..e.g. emergency call in the middle of the night to stop a leak use them....any big projects PLEASE DO SOME HOMEWORK.

Power Plumbing sent 2 guys. They came once to look over the problem, and came back (punctually) to do the job. They installed new piping and gas meter, tested again using their own detector for leaks, and said it was fixed. I haven't had Nicor out to check on that, but I'm satisfied. They also did a couple of other items I asked for: rodded out an exterior drainpipe, camera-scoped to check main sewer basin, and fixed a leak under kitchen sink. The last item required me to make some trips to Ace Hardware, and Bob was pretty flexible and clear about what parts were needed, so the job got done without too much extra labor charges. They were efficient. They did a good job cleaning up, apart from a picnic cooler that they must have stood on to reach up high. And when I couldn't figure out how to open a valve a day or so later, Britt came over on his way home from another job and used his tools to open it for me, no charge. All in all, I'm pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Small gas leaks detected during home inspection for purchase. Called Nicor after moving in; their tech shut off the gas instead of fixing the leaks (word to the wise: we had Nicor's ComfortGuard service plan, which turned out not to help at all here). I called Power Plumbing.

One of our toilets was not flushing very well, and clearly had something jammed in the pipes. Our house is 25 years old, and all toliets and sinks drain slowly, so while they were there, they rodded 3 toilets and 3 sinks. The original clogg was fixed just fine, but a leak developed on one of the toilets after they left, causing a fair amount of water damage in the room below the bathroom. Called them to come out and fix, and they said it was a new leak they had nothing to do with. They replaced some old flush parts in the toilet. The next day, it was still leaking, they came back and replaced more parts. the next day it was leaking again, I had to call someone else in to fix the problem, which was a simple fix, but the first easy rodding job caused all kinds of problems, and did a fair amount of damage from the leak. 2 of the 3 visits they were very late too.

Extraordinary! From the very first phone call, it was clear that Pat Flaherty recognized we had an emergency situation and was focused on helping us resolve our problem. When Pat came in to assess the situation, he assured me that he would be able to complete the job and would also be able to schedule it the very next day. He made me very comfortable by patiently addressing all my concerns. I believe he appreciated the situation we were in and went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. When Pat and his team arrived the following morning, it was immediately clear to us that we made the right decision. The team of four was focused on the job at hand. They came in , developed a game plan and quickly started working. It was obvious that each person knew what had to be done and they didn't let up the entire day. I'm sure our situation was unique but by the way they handled themselves, you would think they dealt with this every day. This was a very large job and the attentiveness to complete all the work within the day was truly appreciated. Each and every one of them was professional and obviously maintain the highest standards. They are a great team! After our horrific experience with the first plumber, we didn't think we would be able to trust any plumber but this team changed that by their hard work, dedication and their attention to our concerns. I would trust Power Plumbing to complete any job, no matter how big or small.
