Worker was excellent and created no unnecessary mess or issues. Problem came when his office gave us a total for services rendered, that was including a "service" fee of $40 that was never discussed. And no rationale for this added fee was given. So, I am to assume it is a charge given to every client. Which would mean that they should have told us when we first signed up for the service, that there would be an additional fee of $40 on top of the $164 first hour fee, and subsequent $52 every half-hour. Very bad customer service, because they clearly laid out the pricing on the phone when we first talked and left out, the "service" fee and that we would pay for parking. The worker had no additional information for me or to prove to me that this charge was apart of the original estimate because I never received a digital or hard copy estimate or receipt (after services rendered). Worker not at fault, I blame the office for no customer service or transparency...
Response from Mr. Handyman of Oak Park & River Forest

"[Member Name Removed], Glad to hear the work was completed professionally. Sorry about the confusion over the bill. I reviewed your bill and you were NOT charged an additional service fee as you mentioned. $164 + ($52x4) + $5 parking billed actual equals $377. Please feel free to call us if you have any further questions."

Mr Handyman charged me for something I wasn't told about and it wasn't written in the agreement. I will always understand a mistake but I won’t accept Mr. Handyman not calling me saying they charged me more than they should have because I made a complaint with the technician when he presented me the invoice. The Technician José Albarran arrived on time but he needed to go shopping for new food waste disposal and toilet fill valve. I suggested he checked the shower before leave, but for my big surprise he said he had to get the Phillips-head screwdriver in the van to open the shower valve (what? really? I lent him one). I mentioned that there is an ACE five minutes walking distance from my place. He told me ACE doesn't have the parts (guess what: they have!). Home Depot is 15 minutes away by car. ONE HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES LATER the guy arrived saying the traffic was bad and he would give me $25 discount for that (I thought he was being fair/nice), except that even considering a time of 15 min stop for shopping, Google Maps estimated time was 40 minutes shorter than that. Before hiring the service, they told me the costs would be $164 for the first hour; $52 for additional 30 minutes; $20 for the van. Nothing more. No extra fees. Based on these values plus the parts costs (Home Depot online $130) and the $25 discount, I was waiting for a $503 bill + $7 EXTRA FEE for "wire nuts, electronic tape, screws, and pipe dope" they have in the van, never mentioned on the phone but it is written in the agreement that I must pay for them. OK - payment of $510 top. I was charged $583 $164 for the first hour; + $208 additional (4x30 minutes); + $200 for “time” & materials; + $20 for the van; + $16 EXTRA FEE for parking; - $25 discount coupon (he wasn't being fair/nice, there was a discount in place already); Why should I pay for “time” & materials if they charged me additional 120 minutes, where 90 of them were for the time he was out? I requested the Home Depot receipt but "it was downstairs in the van" and when I received it I found out the parts cost $136. Why did they charge me $200? I’ve complained and have $88 refunded = $52 for additional 30 minutes (they took it from shopping time), $20 "for the materials you were not aware of" and $16 for the parking. Thanks for the refund, but if I had not paid attention, nothing would be done and I bet a lot of people let this “mistake” pass.

Mario the handyman arrived right on time and immediately got down to work. He built exactly what we were looking for with very little guidance needed. Every thing was completed on time and he cleaned up when he finished.

The light was fixed promptly the next day. The electrician discovered it was a wiring problem not a fixture problem. He troubleshooted the source of the problem. Fixed the wiring and the light was operational again. Fixing the problem was more complicated than it looked. This was not a DYI job. This was definitely a job for a licensed electrician. All work was done within an hour.

He did a great job on everything. He is strong as a rock. He did extra work on the hand rails, my brother in law freaked out. He put handrails into a bracket into the wall. He put a 1x4 piece of wood down the stairwell, he then anchored it, and then he put the handrails, and it was very secure. I thought it was genuine what he did. He is a hard worker. He is really good. He is a real nice guy. The price didn't sound too bad to me. They came, they did a fantastic job, and didn't mess around wasting time. They came and measured and came back a week later, and did the job, and cleaned up. The first time he just came out to look, he looked for 10 minutes and measured everything and what he needed. He came back in 3 or 4 days, and did a very good job. They are really good. Mario was great about punctuality.

Mario on time. Needed clarification of estimate done by Brian who did not clearly itemize cost & the fact that ultimate final payment would be billed hourly. Also, when I mentioned that the most costly item was not going to be addressed, ie if would need to be subtracted from overall estimate, Mario still showed up w/: "bill flat fee $800.00" - I had even clearly addressed w/ Brian, that the original estimate did not add up to $800 the he listed. (I understood some of this was for "wiggle room" if s/thing took longer:; and I was told that it would be hourly. Mario however was fantastic. N one adjusted or clarified D's prior to Mario coming out! Had I blindly not paid attention, I would have been out = $150-200. Interestingly, I was also charged for the time to clarify that miscommunication. Not cool! 45 min before work started.

I have an heirloom Murano Glass chandelier.  I went to clean it and it dislodged from the chain and was hanging by a couple of threads.  I called two companies and Mr. Handyman understood the urgency of my situation and came out that day.  Mario came and did a careful job reattaching the chandelier properly.  We were in the process of restoration from a burst hot water heater and trying to get the house back in order. Mario reattached a very large glass clock safely on a high wall. My husband and I tried for one hour combined and we couldn't do it.  Mario also helped to transport household items to the areas they belonged in the house, which would have taken me double the time. Very satisfied!
