MENDEZ PAINTING INC

There were several up-charges for items we originally discussed and he said were included in the quote. He said the job was completed without coming to see the house. The house was left uncleaned, with light fixtures not re-installed after the ceilings were painted. Two rooms of window coverings were thrown out, after told them to leave them because they were needed. A door was broken and I was not told about it, and the (NEW) floor was scratched in several places. The powder bathroom ad basement stairs were NOT completed and he NEVER came back to finish and do the touch-ups on the date he promised. I called every day for two weeks, but he never took my calls or returned them. DO NOT HIRE THE MENDEZ BROTHERS!!

They did an AMAZING job. Everything looks fabulously brand new and fresh. They cleaned up after themselves and left my house cleaner than when they arrived. Antonio and his daughter are a pure delight to work with and I would hire them again in a heartbeat.

Went well. Cost more than I expected

I hired Mendez Painting after reading positive reviews about them on Angie's List. I needed to have a large two bedroom apartment painted after my tenant moved out. Mendez Painting quoted me the best price. They started the job right away and had the apartment finished in a few days.
When I inspected the apartment after they finished I was very disappointed. The painters had painted all the windows shut and there were specks of paint everywhere where they had failed to clean up. They hadn't removed the plastic plates over the light switches; they just painted over them. They did not replace the overhead ceiling light covers when they took them down. They left them on the floor. I had to get a ladder and put them back up myself. The painters had painted over eight of the apartment's 12 electric outlets. I had to replace them so they would be usable to plug in lamps and appliances.
When I called Mr. Mendez and told him this he apologized and came over to the apartment himself to inspect the work. He calledme and said he was also unhappy with the work his painters did. He opened up all the windows and cleaned up some of the paint specks. He said he would send me a check for $100.00 to cover the cost of replacing eight electric outlets.
After one phone call and two emails I still have not received any check. I have spent several hours cleaning up paint smears and drips. There are cracks in the places where these painters painted over paint that was flaking off; they didn't bother to scrape off the old paint. They didn't do any preparation of the painting surfaces. I will probably wind up having to repaint some of these rooms again in a year or two.
In addition, my previous tenant was a heavy cigarette smoker. Mr. Mendez told me they would use two coats of primer to cover up the cigarette smoke residue on the walls; he said it was not necessary to wash the walls. The apartment still has a strong odor of cigarette smoke. The walls should have been washed with a strong cleaning agent before they painted.
I should have paid more and gotten a better paint job. I would not use this company again.

It was a very long process and they did an excellent job. What they did is phenomenal, from top to bottom! We are supposed to have them do some exterior painting for us in the new year.

I have used Mendez Painting multiple times in the past 10 years (myself, and for about a dozen of my real estate clients), and felt compelled to urge the masses to avoid all other painters in favor of them.
There is no other painter as far as I'm concerned. I refer them to clients with confidence, and after a bad experience with a painter last summer (who was used because a general contractor brought them in), I will NEVER EVER use anyone but Mendez.
THE QUOTEMr. Mendez arrives at the appointment time, on time, and takes down the requirements of the job. The quote is typically received the next day by email - in many cases it has come by the end of the SAME DAY. All quotes I've received have included the paint (they work with Benjamin Moore).
THE WORK ITSELFFor my latest job, they told me they need a 2-business-day lead time to schedule the actual painting. I gave them more notice than that, but within about 4 days, I called to see if we could move up the start day and they responded quickly and were able to do it!
The painters arrive at 8AM (as scheduled). On the second day, they were EARLY and waiting in their truck to come in (I know this because I saw them while walking my dogs at 7:30).
The real magic is in the prep. They meticulously tarp EVERYTHING (furniture, kitchen cabinets, personal items, etc.). They examine the walls, looking for even the slightest anomalies, and use putty as needed to fix the walls. Then they sand all the walls so they're as smooth as possible. In another job I did with them, they spent the entire first day ONLY prepping. They also carefully took down window treatments, covered them, and put them back up when they were done. For the record - I didn't give them ANY instructions for the job. This is just typical pride-of-great-work kind of stuff.
The painting itself is clean and smooth (and quick!). All those "hard to reach" places are also painted without having to bug them about it. For instance, I caught one painter BEHIND my refrigerator painting baseboards (that no one will ever see).
At the end, they spent hours going over every inch of the job and making sure nothing was missed. And then they spend as much time as necessary cleaning up and leaving my place as clean as possible. I know from talking to Mr. Mendez that they pride themselves on a clean job with little to no splatter/mess.THE PRICEFor the ultra-professional job that they do, it's a bargain. I've had clients get quotes from inferior painters that were actually 1.5-2x as much.

From start to finish, Antonio was fantastic to work with. He came to our townhouse to see what we wanted to do and had an estimate to us within 2 days.  The work started very soon after that and the painting team finished in less than 5 days. When we didn't like the color that we had chosen for our office, they were very accomodating and quoted a VERY reasonable price to have it repainted.  The painters did a great job of cleaning up each night so that our house wasn't a total disaster to come into. Antonio came by for a walk through with us after the job was completed and offered to come back if we needed any touch ups.

The owner is a wonderful guy to deal with. They did great work and were willing to come back and do touch ups. He also had the best price by far!

This firm had the best bid, by far, of the three Angie's List firms we secured bids from.  Mendez Painting was able to schedule the work without much delay, and the two man crew was able to complete the work in four days, much faster than the nine to ten days that I was anticipating.  Not only were they fast, but they also did a high quality job.

The condo had a new roof put on the building and because of the drill work, there were some minor cracks in the ceiling. We are on the top floor and the work that they did caused some minor damage to the ceiling. The work was excellent. They were absolutely responsive. Mr. Mendez was here himself several times. The workers were very timely and very neat. They did an excellent job. We have used them in the past and we will use them in the future. They were very careful and meticulous in terms of protecting the furniture and painting to keep them clean. They cleaned up extremely well after themselves. They were here on time and they got the work done in less time than they said that they would. There is not much to say about the painted ceiling but it looks great. We got a couple of other quotes and they were better than the others. They were very helpful. They were on the money in terms of their punctuality. The painters were as professional as anybody that I have ever dealt with. We have lived here for eleven years and we have used them several times. They were very good, very careful and I appreciated them for that.

Antonio and his crew were easy to work with and performed the job to my satisfaction.

This was a complicated job that required a lot of attention to detail. They completed the job on time and even came in on the weekend so we didn't have to interrupt our work flow.

They are terrific and I highly recommend them. We are very pleased with them. They are on time, clean up and do a good job. Their prices are reasonable and all the usual.

I have used Mendez several times and have been more than pleased each time. They come on time, clean up messes and do very nice work. They work fast and do a very nice job. Tony is the owner and has several sons in the business. He is very professional, friendly and flexible. He has let me add a wall or room here and there. His pricing is very competitive the time a shopped it around a few years ago.

Bid was substantially lower than competing bid. The other guy claimed he needed 4 guys to bring and assemble a hired scaffold, pass the materials up, etc. Mr. Mendez sent two men with his own scaffold, who did the job efficiently, carefully, cleanly - what more needs to be said.

Mendez generally did a good job, and I was happy with the overall result. They filled in several holes left by a mantel that was removed and the result looked good. The only problem I had was that they splattered paint on my brand new Restoration Hardware fixtures in the bathrooms- not very happy about that, but I was able to scrape it off. I thought it was fairly pricey, though cheaper than another painter I contacted.

Very good quality work. Antonio comes out to give you an estimate then his workers come out to do the job. Antonio is always on time, his workers are always late, but once they get to the house, they do good work.

EXTREMELY disappointed. I picked t cheapest estimate (his) only to realize after the job was done, I made a mistake. Other painters would have charged slightly more, but would have done a complete job. Antonio sent a one painter, and another worker who was clearly not qualified to paint. They held a ladder at 15 feet by hand without properly supporting it (there could have been a huge accident in my home). I had to point out the missed spots, ask for things to be repainted and retouched several times. When Antonio came to inspect the work, he pretended not to see the uneven paint job. Although they covered my furniture, there are paint drops all over my floor, I even watched one of the workers picking paint off. The job I wanted done, full paint coverage of a portion of my living room ceiling, along with touch up on the side walls, and the same in my bedroom is not what I got for the money. I got patching. Yuck. And it shows. Would never hire them again period.

WE WERE VERY PLEASED WITH ANTONIO'S WORK. THEY WERE PROMPT AND ON BUDGET. THE ONE MISHAP WAS THAT THEY ACCIDENTALLY STARTED TO PAINT A BEDROOM THAT THEY WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO, BUT WE NEVER ASKED THEM TO FIX IT BECAUSE WE WERE PLANNING ON PAINTING IT OURSELVES ANYWAY.

GREAT JOB FROM THESE GUYS! I EVEN HAD TO CHANGE COLORS TWICE DURING THE PROCESS AND THEY WERE HAPPY TO RE-PAINT (AT ADDITIONAL COST - THE COST I'VE INCLUDED WAS BEFORE THE RE-PAINTING). THE ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THEY WERE SLOW TO PROVIDE A QUOTE. THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE NEXT DAY AND IT TOOK A FEW DAYS (AND I HAD TO CALL TO REMIND THEM). HOWEVER - THEY DID A FIRST RATE JOB WITH A 3-MAN CREW. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH HOW MUCH PREPPING THEY DID (INCLUDING LOTS OF WALL DING FIXES AND TAPING). WHEN THEY WERE DONE, THERE WASN'T A STRAY SPECK OF PAINT ANYWHERE AND THEY HAD CLEANED EVERYTHING! I'LL HIRE THEM AGAIN IF NEEDED AND WILL REFER TO OTHERS.

COMMUNICATION WITH THE EMPLOYEES WAS NON-EXISTENT. THE EMPLOYEES OF MENDEZ PAINTING, INCLUDING THE OWNER, DO NOT RESPECT YOUR PERSONAL SPACE AND ENTER INTO AREAS OF THE HOUSE WHEN REMINDED NOT TO DO SO. I HAD AN INCIDENT AT MY HOUSE WHILE THE MENDEZ PAINTERS WERE HERE AND ANTONIO WAS OF LITTLE OR NO HELP IN RESOLVING THE SITUATION. HE INFORMED ME THAT HE WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT HAVING AN "INCIDENT" ON HIS RECORD THAN WORKING THROUGH THE SITUATION. JUST BE WARNED THAT IF YOU ENLIST THE WORK OF MENDEZ PAINTING YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR PERSONAL PROPERTY AND SANITY AT RISK. ANTONIO IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESSMAN THAT MAINTAINS AN ORGANIZED CREW. WHILE REMOVING OLD DRYWALL A WINDOW FRAME WAS CRACKED AND JUST PATCHED WITH PLASTER. THERE WERE CRACKS AND TOOLMARKS IN THE PLASTER. THEY WERE CARELESS IN CARRYING THE DRYWALL TO THE THIRD FLOOR. THEY DRAGGED THE SHEETS OVER MY STAIRS CAUSING GROOVES OR BANGED IT ON THE CEILING CAUSING PAINT TO CHIP. VERY DISAPPOINTING OVERALL.

MENDEZ CAME ON A WEEKEND TO PERFORM HIS ESTIMATE, AS REQUESTED. HE FAXED ME A DETAILED RESPONSE 2-3 DAYS LATER, AND WAS AVAILABLE TO DO THE JOB WITHIN 10 DAYS OF THAT. THE ESTIMATE WAS 35% LOWER THAN THE ESTIMATES I RECEIVED FROM OTHER RECOMMENDED PAINTERS ON ANGIE'S LIST, AND THE OTHER ESTIMATES DID NOT INCLUDE EXTRA LABOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE STRIPES! MENDEZ WAS VERY ACCOMMODATING WHEN I NEEDED TO DELAY THE JOB BY 2 WEEKS, AND WAS HAPPY TO LET ME PROVIDE THE MATERIALS (A COMMON AREA FOR PAINTERS TO UPCHARGE). HIS WORKERS WERE ON-TIME, POLITE, AND NEAT, AND THEY DID A SUPERB JOB. THEY APPLIED 4-5 COATS TO GET THE RED JUST RIGHT, WITHOUT ADDITIONAL CHARGES OR COMPLAINTS. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE REMARKED ON HOW IMPRESSIVE THE STRIPES ARE. THIS IS PARTICULARLY IMPRESSIVE CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT MENDEZ DOES NOT USUALLY DO THIS TYPE OF DETAIL BUT WAS WILLING TO DO IT FOR ME WHEN I REQUESTED IT (HE CHARGED ME A REASONABLE HOURLY RATE FOR THE EXTRA LABOR REQUIRED). A SUPERB SERVICE & VA

CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ITS BEST. RECEIVED A QUOTE FROM OTHER PAINTERS THAT WERE ALMOST TWICE THE COST QUOTED FROM THIS COMPANY. ROSIE AND ANTONIO WERE GREAT TO DEAL WITH AND VERY RESPONSIVE TO ALL REQUESTS AND QUESTIONS. PROVIDED ME WITH BENJAMIN MOORE COLOR SWATCH BOOK AND ALLOWED ME TO CHOOSE MULTIPLE COLORS FOR MY ROOMS. EXCELLENT JOB AND THEY EVEN CAME BACK TO DO TOUCH UPS AFTER THE FINAL WALK THROUGH. WILL DEFINITELY CALL THEM AGAIN. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
