Used Mr. Margolis more than once in the past. ***** HE IS STILL THE BEST.***** My husband met him for first time and was really impressed by his professionalism, speed of response to our call and cost of service. We had new Kohler sinks and fancy faucet installed in our kitchen several years ago when we upgraded to granite countertops, etc. The faucet began leaking and the hose never pulled out properly but we made due until it became a real problem when the garbage disposal went on the blink. I called and Mr. Margolis came out the next day with all the necessary parts. He even replaced pipes and got rid of the problem hose part that obstructed the hose from easy movement back and forth. Everything was done in just a couple of hours with no mess or fuss. My husband thought the cost would be $$$$$$$, but it was only $$. Mr. Margolis also gave me some good advice on maintaining our appliances.

We called Gary to help us with our leaking refrigerator at 9 pm when we had thought the problem was fixed already by serviceman several days prior. He patiently walked through the problem with us and was sure that the water valve was not shut off by the prior repairman. The prior repairman told us that he had shut it off. The water was accumulating at the bottom of the appliance and was running down through the floor to our basement. He talked us through shutting off the water and the leak promptly stopped. We offered to compensate him in some way and all he asked was that we think of him for future repairs. We were extremely pleased by the encounter and will be using Gary in the future.
Description of Work: Gary helped us troubleshoot our leaking refrigerator over the phone in an after hour call.

Called for appointment on Monday morning. Scheduled a evaluation for later that day. He arrived in the one hour window I was given. Called before his arrival. The issue was the belt on our dryer, as expected. He replaced the part in the same visit. Service was quick and he was professional. Gave tips for dryer health and upkeep.

Our elderly dryer was tumbling, but not heating. We called Gary to come in and take a look, to see if it was fixable. Happily, it was. Gary was extremely professional, easy to deal with, and he got down to business immediately. An hour later, we had a working dryer that was cleaner than it had ever been in its long life. We were extremely pleased, and will keep Gary's name and number on hand for future appliance repairs. Would not hesitate to recommend him.

I recently purchased my first home, and with it all the repairs. Upon doing our first load of laundry, we realized the soap dispenser wasn't being triggered and the the water wasn't draining out in the spin cycle. We called ABT electronics, but they couldn't send anyone out for almost 2 weeks and it was $150 just to have them take a look and diagnose the problem. I called Margolis Appliance repair and the came out that same night, and the pricing was beyond reasonable! The gentleman who came out was very nice, incredibly professional and kept us informed of everything that he was doing. I would probably call them again for any other problems we encounter!

Gary was very prompt, clean and courteous. When he arrived i explained that I had tried to fix the loose dishwasher handle the day prior and in the process managed to make a small problem a much larger problem once I realized that the dishwasher would now not latch shut and therefore would no longer run at all. Gary very quickly had the front panel off of the dishwasher and managed to fix the latch, tighten the already loose dishwasher handle that I was still unable to reach and fix, as well as tidy up any other noticeably loose or otherwise out of place items behind that front panel. All of this was taken care of within 15 minutes of walking in the door. We then had a nice chat, exchanged payment and a business card, and he was on his way. He was reasonably priced and I would certainly hire him again in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired my dishwasher door, which involved removing the front plate of the dishwasher and reseating the latch.

He fixed my 25 year old Maytag washer/dryer combination. He said that it was very dirty, so he took it apart and cleaned it. He has been great, very honest, and knows his stuff. He is very good at what he does. He is always so neat and clean as well. Would not think of calling anyone else!
Description of Work: I have been using his services for 15 years, but this time he repaired a washer/dryer combination for me. Two years ago when my 3 HP disposal broke down, he advised that this particular model had a seven year warranty, not 5 as ABT said! So we got a brand new disposal, which ABT delivered and installed. Over the years, Mr.Margolis has saved me money and given us good advice.

Gary Margolis came to muy house on 3-6-14. I was concerned about my washer having a mildewed smell and possibly not cleaning very well. I also was concerned about possible build-up of lint in drier and worry that this is a fire hazard. I hoped Gary would clean the washer and vacuum out the drier, at the very least. Gary instead told me I should buy new. He became distracted by other things he thought were problematic in my house, related to my humidifier, etc... and focused on these things instead. He was talkative and hard to interrupt. He was trying to be helpful, but did not help me much with the problems I needed help with. He began calling his friends (other repairmen I think) to tell them about these problems and could not really be re-directed to the washer and drier. Gary also took other sales calls while he was here, which seemed to further distract him. When I attempted to bring Gary's attention back to my washer and drier, he briefly took a look at my washer and said it wasn't worth the price to fix them and that I should buy new. He said what I have is "junk" and I should buy Whirlpool at ABT and use a specific salesman. Gary wrote this on my receipt. After putting on my coat and attempting to communicate verbally and nonverbally that I needed to go pick up my kids and could not spend any more time on this, Gary still did not leave. He kept talking and maybe was trying to be helpful. However, this was not helpful. When he finally charged me, he charged me $132. Seemed like a high price to pay for what could have been communicated in 5-10 minutes by saying, "It is not worth paying for labor and parts to have them fixed. Buy new." When my husband returned from his business trip, he called Gary to get an explanation of what occurred. Gary began shouting at him immediately and criticizing me with sexist remarks (his mistaken view that I was ignorant about mechanics of my home?) He threatened that if we put a bad review, he will sue us. I feared this man's unstable behavior and waited to put an ad. However, I believe it is a disservice to myself and to others to not put this out there.
Description of Work: Checked washer and drier and informed me I should purchase new, naming a man at ABT who I should buy from, and a specific brand (Whirlpool).

I call it like it is the Machines are base model 10 years plus and in poor shape I told you that it was time to replace them that it was not worth putting any money into them at this point. You asked what machines I liked and I said I like the whirlpool. you asked where to buy And I said ABT. I even Provided you With the number of a very nice sales guy at ABT. I thought we were done but you asked me about the furnace room being to hot and the room next to that being to cold I provided you with the number to my heating guy. You asked if I know a contractor to do some work to finish the cold room and I called the Heating guy for a referral per your request. I made no sales calls other to find info you requested. You then asked me about the refrigerator in the Kitchen and the issue with having hot water at the dispenser. I looked under the sink and it was hooked up to the hot water line. I told you that you needed a plumber because most of the plumbing under the sink was done incorrectly. You had mentioned that you had a contract from the contractor that did other work in the house and you wanted my opinion. The contract was for the solid door on the furnace room that you had mentioned your husband wanted. I had mentioned that the contractor made no notation on the contract with reference that if a solid door was going to be used in place of a vented door for the furnace room that it would require a replacement source of fresh air that is necessary for proper combustion of the furnace and hot water heater. I then mentioned that you can call or go to the village hall to obtain the information on the required codes with respect to this issue. I was their over an hour and billed you for a service call for two appliances and a Quarter hour. I am a good and honest person and my Angie's customers have pointed that out for 20 years now. Angie's members and contractors are good people, you and your husband are not very nice people to make such false statements is just deplorable and I feel you are not worthy of being Angie's member's.

He understood the problem over the phone and was able to quote me a price and schedule me in promptly. He was on time, courteous and professional. The completed the work as promised. I am very satisfied and would absolutely use him again.

So with no warning, our oven went kaput about two weeks ago. We read Gary?s reviews and called him to please take a look and help us out. Gary is very thorough, and is determined to find out what the problem is and the best way to fix it....in order to do this, he spends as much time as is needed to fix the problem correctly, and at a very reasonable price. The only problem with this is that he tends to run later than estimated which can be a problem if you are trying to keep to a schedule. However, this would be the only thing negative I can say...he really knows his stuff, is personable, and is very reasonably priced for the quality of his work and the attention he provides.

Although initially responsive to my call for service, Mr. Margolis charged me approximately $160 for a water supply valve I didn't need, left without solving the problem and told me that once I got the water running again on my own, he could return to replace the icemaker for $200 to $300 (suggesting that the replacement part alone cost more than $150). Once I did get the water supply problem fixed on my own, I phoned him back to replace the icemaker and he never called back. I bought a replacement icemaker online for $49 and installed it in 10 minutes. Finally, his attitude seemed to suggest he considered his service call a big favor to me, rather than a service I was paying for. Very odd!

The Date of service was 9/13. I was called be by [member's name removed] and he was trying to repair his refrigerator himself he was looking for some suggestions to do this I had given him a few suggestions and that was that. A week or so later he called and said he had no luck in the repair and asked what it may be and I said it may be the water valve and he asked how much it would cost to change it, I gave him a price and he said he would get back to me. Again he called back in a week or so and asked if I would come out and change it. I did just that and it did not do the job on getting water to the dispenser. It turned out it was the water filter he had purchased online somewhere so I said I had a new original G/E filter in the truck and that I can change it know and he said no that he would take care of it. The job price was $157.30 I did only what he wanted and if he is frustrated with himself that it was only the water filter that he put in then dont take it out on me for doing exactly what he wanted. As for the ice maker it will not work without water and I cannot diagnose if he would not let me put in a new filter and was rushing me out the door. As for a price on an ice maker, all parts are original G/E only and are sold at suggested G/E list price. You must ask this guy does he take his car to the mechanic then tie one hand behind his back then complain when done.

Margolis did such a good job with our dishwasher, we had him come back to fix the ice machine in our fridge. It turns out that whoever installed the ice machine did not do the best job in the world and Gary had to try a bunch of different ideas to fix the problem. It was clear he was very familiar with how these machines work, and he had a lot of spare parts from previous jobs to help him to creatively work out the problem. He eventually found a solution that worked perfectly and was very fair with his pricing.

I saw in the Angie's List reviews that another customer had a similar problem and that Margolis fixed it. I was juggling my kids when I called so I was a little disorganized when I explained what I needed--Margolis was very patient with me despite the fact it I originally gave him the wrong brand name and it took me a while to find the model number. He was able to come by that very afternoon. He showed up as agreed, worked very efficiently, was very knowledgeable about the problem and how to fix it. Could one wish for more?

My 90 year old father's washing machine was leaking. I called Margolis Appliance in the morning and the serviceman was at my dad's condo within 1-2 hours of my call, consistent with his estimate of when he'd be there. He gave my dad a cost estimate and performed the work well. He was professional and courteous and definitely knew what he was doing. I would absolutely recommend Margolis Appliance.

I spoke by telephone with a person representing the company and explained that my Maytag electric drier was making a squealing noise whenever it started up, after not being used for a few hours. I said that the abnormal sounds stopped after about 10-15 minutes operation of the drier.. I asked for a rough estimate of expected cost (not firm; after their worker actually examines the drier on site and then provided an estimate, would it be firm). My guess and theirs was that it needed replacement of a belt; the guess was that if it proved to be the belt then the cost might be about $160 plus parts and tax (perhaps another $20). It seemed high to me, but I made the appointment for the repairman to come. The repair man did not come on the appointed day and time. I had stayed home for 5 hours, to cover the 4-hour window for the repair man to arrive. I did not receive a telephone call or message on that day or subsequently, about the missed appointment. I thought, "If this company did not come as promised, or telephone to explain delay, when they were seeking a new customer, what could I expect after I had paid?" I reasoned that if I had a problem or complaint after I had paid, I would likely get even less responsiveness. Therefore, I decided not to deal any further with that company. Whether or not that was a characteristic behavior (i.e., missed appointment, not responsive), or it was a misunderstanding, I was not interested in pursuing the matter with them. Although I didn't lay out any cash for the service not-provided, I wasted a lot of time waiting for the repairman who never came or called. So, it "cost-me" nevertheless. .
Description of Work: An electric clothes drier made an abnormal sound when starting up. A repairman was to come, evaluate the problem, make an estimate, and perform the repair right then and there, if it proved to be simple and he had the parts in his truck.
