Finding a reputable roofer out of thousands can be overwhelming. I selected Jack (Jacek) Lekarczyk, owner of J.L. Contractor Services LTD, out of five (5) proposals. They were the only contractor with expertise in both roofing and exterior home improvement. Their “scope of work” was meticulously detailed. Their prices were transparent, to fully disclose all costs. My project began mid-December and required intricate work on the structural frameworks of my brick home and brick garage. Jack deployed multiple teams of “master craftsmen” in roofing, carpentry, aluminum, windows etc, in anticipation of Chicago’s unpredictable weather. Each day, crews arrived an hour early, by 7:00 am, and seemed to work nonstop until the job was done. Visually, it was a spectacular job-site with complex scaffolding and industrial equipment. The massive crew of “seasoned pros'' were of the highest caliber of craftsmanship. They were polite, considerate, “masters of their trade” who took pride in their work. They valued teamwork, like a “colony of ants”, for flawless execution with remarkable precision to stay on schedule. Jack was the only contractor who promised (in his proposal) to show photos for “visual proof” if additional expenses were warranted, (i.e., the replacement of rotten wood). Most impressive, he included the “panoramic photos” in his progress reports which captured entire work sites and surroundings from the sky to the ground. I could see everything as if I was standing on the roof. My new roofs are absolutely stunning! The value-added “fine-tuning” of the project, although unexpected, enhanced my property’s appearance and curb appeal in ways I never imagined. Scores of “gapers" in cars and on foot marveled at the amazing transformation. I am most grateful to “Jack”, “Joe”, “Jiri” and their teams for such “superior” craftsmanship. Excellently. The masons made quick work of the demo up front, taking a day to remove the parapet and half a day to get the chimneys down. The rebuild was more deliberate, getting the colors right, making sure the new common brick was plumb and the decorative brick looked perfect. Once the parapet was up, the roofing crew came in and flashed the new masonry tightly, applying reflective paint and patches to wick the water away from the brick. The roof was applied over the top brick with a slight overhang that later gets hidden by the drip tray. The capstones came back particularly beautifully. The cleanup was very effective, having red mortar meant it took a bit more detail to get it right, but they did it. The work is strong and looks good.

We have used J and L many times over the past 10 years plus and they consistency do an excellent job! Jack is thorough in his assessment, fair in his price and a terrific communicator. His teams are do beautiful work (you can hardly identify the repairs) and diligently clean up afterwards.

They know the CORRECT way things should be done, price accordingly, and stand behind their work. All of the masonry and roofing work completed was high quality. We hired J L Contractor Services to put a new roof on our garage, including new gutters/downspouts, and repair a section of aluminum facia on the house. Jack came out and gave us a fair bid for the work. His crew arrived when he said they would, promptly got started, were polite/no excessive noise above what's expected with doing the work, and left the premises swept and free of debris. Overall they did a great job. They had to replace several sections of plywood and the wood replacement work inside the garage, exterior shingle and gutter work, and facia repair all look great. I think we have the best looking garage roof on the block! I would definitely use this company again.

We originally met Jack when I called on him looking for chimney liner installation. He did not do this kind of work, but referred me to someone that did. As that reference worked out well, I figured I'd call him again to review this project when we decided to move forward with quotes. For reference, the house is a single family brick bungalow with dormers both front and back with a detached garage. The ashphalt shingled roof was a complete single layer tear off that was 22 years old. Some decking and fascia board (about half the perimeter of house for the fascia) needed replacing. Venting was cut into the soffit and ridge vents installed. The dormers were sided instead of being shingled as they were previously. Jack and the team did a great job all around. Their attention to detail and the fact they were very responsive with concerns made this project a success. Everyone was on time every day and put it a full day's work and then some. They made sure the demolition as well as the rebuild did not cause any issues with damage to the neighbors homes which were in close proximity. Jack does a great job when quoting and was available and answered any and all of the questions we had especially when it came to materials and process and scheduling. I can't say enough about his attention to detail on this project. Originally, pricing was in line with all others quoting, but the others were lacking in detail. Pricing actually wound up more favorable, although that was not the reason for selecting JL Contractor Services. Again, I stress Jack's attention to detail. This grouped with the responsiveness and quality of materials and workmanship should seal the deal and make your decision easier regarding whom you go with for a project of this nature. I can fully recommend JL Contractor Services and will call on them again for any home improvement projects.

I've used JL Contractor Services for a couple of projects with excellent results. The jobs included masonry, cement work, roofing, and siding. Jack is professional, knowledgeable, easy to work with, and very responsive. His pricing is fair and his crew is hardworking and reliable. J.L. Contractors Services are well rated, licensed and bonded, and therefore very busy. Thankfully they were able to fit our roof replacement in before winter. They did a very professional job in two days and clean up was excellent. I would definitely recommend them.

J. L. Contractor Services was at the higher end of estimates of the work, but I went with them anyhow, because the owner, Jack, seemed to know more about attic ventilation, and consider it to be a more important issue, than did the other companies I got quotes from. I wanted better attic ventilation as the house is old and has no soffits. Jack wa very responsive to all my questions both while I was deciding who to hire and after I'd chosen him. The crew laid extensive tarps to protect my house and the neighbors' houses They did as I asked and took special precautions to not damage a neighbor's roof. The work seemed to go well and was finished in a few days with no interruptions. Despite the precautions, some liquid materials used in the work did get dropped on the porch and on a skylight. When I let Jack know, he sent over Joe, who seems to be a kind of project manager, to clean up. The clean-up job was very satisfactory.

I called something like 20 contractors; 3 called back. One was nuts (long story), a second wouldn't come out for such a small job, and the third was Jack. I sent him measurements, he sent me a price, and I was set to wait about 6 weeks. I got a call one evening; they had a break in another job, could they come out and do my walk the next day? (This was about a month earlier than expected.) Sure! They came, they broke up the walk, laid gravel, and put in the new concrete. The new walk is beautiful, the guys were nice, and the price was right. Can't beat that. I see that Jack and his guys do a lot of other things. They'll be my first call the next time I need something done.

Required a lot of work done. Tear off 3 layers of roofing and installing a new roof, removed and installed new siding on sides of house and dormers, rebuilt chimney, and put up new gutters on house and garage. Pricing was very competitive and workers did a very good job. Jack was very straightforward with cost and what work needed to be done, and was quick to respond to any questions that I had about the job. Would definitely use again.

We needed repairs to our brick garage.  We contacted Jack and he was extremely responsive, he sent a couple of his crew within a couple of days to take a look at the garage. He gave us a quote and we pleasantly surprised at how reasonable the cost was! We had been given an initial quote the year prior which was almost 4 times the amount! Although we speculate the company didn’t want the job and overpriced…

He was able to schedule the job within a couple of days of sending him the signed contract.  Their crew were professional and did a great job. Would highly recommend again!

I have used this company several times and have found them to be very reliable. The owner Jack is extremely knowledgeable, he will come out for the estimate, explain everything to you and write up a detailed contract. His employees are no-nonsense old school types, hardworking, courteous. If you're looking for a really solid general contractor, J. L. is your guy. The only thing is that you have to call far in advance to get on their schedule.
