To my surprise, she demanded final payment as she handed over the plans and started yelling when I reminded her that it was due AFTER the city approved the plans and issued the permit. An hour later Ismet and his wife showed up with the police at my door - he was trying to get the cops to enter my home and return "his" plans to him because I hadn't paid him in full. They didn't, of course, because police don't enter someone's home and confiscate something on Ismet's say so. Several days later Ismet cancelled the on-line Application for Permit he had posted earlier for me thereby preventing me from moving the permit process forward. Ismet ignored a letter from my attorney demanding reinstatement of the Application. Ismet wanted to be paid in full first. I didn't because I don't trust this guy and that's not what the contract stated. I finally had to hire another architect who drew a new set of plans, posted the Application, and gave me custody of the plans to take to city hall for approval. I now have my permit and my new architect has been paid in full. In the almost forty years experience I've had doing business, this case has been the most bizarre and troubling.
