I had purchased such a service  for $99 several weeks ago from Angie's list and gave some dates, but never heard from them. Then I found out that they just respond to Angie's List directly instead of to me---which has never happened before with other services I have ordered.  Then the problem became a big problem the day before Thanksgiving and I called them direct saying that I had bought their service for $99 a couple of weeks ago---and they said they had given me a date on Angie's List and expected to hear from me.  Since it was now Thanksgiving weekend the same service cost $350, but they subtracted my $99.  So the only problem was this could have been cleared up before for $99, but now that it was a Thanksgiving weekend, it cost more---which I understood from their standpoint.  However, I think Angie's should clear up this problem for the future.  Nowhere does it say that I have to check Angie's list every day to find out if I have been given an appt.  The service should (& all others in the past have) called or e-mailed the me directly. |Also, I have received many requests for my review on Captain Rooter's and I kept replying that I already said all of this on 11/29/13.  So I am writing it again, as I cannot seem to stop these requests.

My experience did not go well.  They came to give an estimate and they were going to charge me an additional $4000 to do the work. However, I got another assessment from another company and it was much $12 and I was able to replace it myself. I will say the technician was responsive and professional.

I bought the 2 hour AL deal on Jan 9th. 4 days later I got a cryptic message on AL "what is plumbing issue". I responded and then did not hear from them. So after two more days I sent a message on AL asking when they would schedule the service. I never got a response. Two weeks go by - nothing. I call them and they can't find my information, they know nothing about me. They agree to send someone the next day between 8 & 10am as long as I have the voucher from AL. At 10am I get a call saying the plumber is minutes away. At 10:20 I get a call from the plumber saying that he can't find the house. They had given him the wrong address. Meanwhile, I'm not at work while I'm wating for this guy.
So he finally gets here and says that the toilet is not leaking. I ask him where the water is coming from. (There is a wet stain in the marble floor all the way around the base of the toilet) He says he does not know. I tell him to replace the wax ring. He gets another wax ring from his truck. Not the same kind for my toilet. He is about to put it on when I ask about it. He says, "Okay I'll go to home depot and get the same kind".
He comes back and replaces the wax ring. Then I ask him to look at another thing under the sink upstairs. He says, "I'm already over the two hours. I went to Home Depot but I'm not even going to charge you for that" I said, "You got here at 10:35, what time is it now?" He looks at his phone and says "Almost 12:30". I look at his phone and it reads 12:16. He agrees to go look under the sink.
It seemed to me like he was only interested in doing the least amount of work possible for the 2 hour AL deal.  I felt like he was doing me a favor to check out what was needed under the sink. (It needs a shutoff valve for the refrigerator water line and he said he'd have to go to Home Depot and it would be $185)

Response from Captain Rooter Emergency Plumbers Chicago

"Sorry for being late due too very bad weather in chicago lately and some jobs r bigger than others bigger than others . And as far as doing the least amount of work it say in big deal that labor only... Which. No big deal. But there is only 1 kinda wax last time i check customer just wanted the one with the black plastic cone wich professionals do not use due to reducing the size of the drain. But as he requested we got that 1. For him so he be happy butt that part of the time in the 2 hrs but if he had just let us put what we use in every house in there would been more time. And the wrong adress it was a street that sounded the same just a few blks away honest mistake but his A.L on angies list is a total differnt location ."

Initially, I was not impressed and the person who they sent did not know anything about what I purchased through Angie's List. They weren't here on the window that they promised, they were about 2 hours late.

They could not perform the work because they did not have the 10 feet of copper pipe. I explained to them what they needed over the phone previous to the appointment. I was upset because the rest of the shower project is on hold now.
Response from Captain Rooter Emergency Plumbers Chicago

"Im sorry that we show up a few hours late due too bad weather conditons and heavy volume of work we cant help that ther are more problems on one job before the next as was explained to customer. But as it states on big deal parts are not included and customer didnt want to do job. due too 185 for each additional hour after 2hr deal was up. re doing a tub faucet and moving from it orginal place was so easy... Well sorry job couldnt be done in 2hrs...."

I called to schedule the appointment and they seemed to want to schedule for Tuesday. I took off work and waited. When they were 45 minutes late, I called to check on the technician. He said that he never got my appointment and could try to be there in an hour and 45 minutes. I was very disappointed with this.

Ray Serrano came out on the coldest day in Chicago history, and worked long into the night to give us a new shower and tub faucet.  He removed ancient fixtures, pipes and tiles, and soldered in new copper pipes.  Very professional, thorough, and even let us pick our own fixtures.
He did a great job and solid cleanup afterward.  I highly recommend him!

Went very well - however cutting blade and rodding coil were a bit too narrow for my line.  I wish they had had a wider rodding coil and larger cutting blade - but for price I'm satsfied.

I could only give you a short feedback that I really liked them and I would call them back again. Things were explained to me because I am 78 years old and that is very important to me. The gentleman was very courteous and I appreciated that. They were excellent like I said they were so thorough about explaining everything in detail and making sure I was happy with them coming. They answered any questions that I had.
I would use them again in the future.

Happy about that. Even though it's my basement unit I would have liked to see the caulk done a little cleaner but can't complain on the quickness and price.

Jesse Arellano arrived within 30 minutes of the appointment time and I informed him that we had two toilets, that the relatively new upstairs toilet was functioning fine but the downstairs basement toilet (original to the house, very old) was running all the time. He took a quick look at the upstairs toilet and then we proceeded downstairs. I explained that the downstairs toilet had no shut off valve and that I was interested in having one installed if we could agree on a price. I thought that Jesse said that the additional work would run about $130, added to the $39 I had already paid for the inspection (which included changing the flapper). However, the final price was $165 (plus the $39) already paid. Considering the labor involved in cutting the pipe and installing the cut off valve, and the difficulty removing and replacing the faulty innards of the old toilet (the problem was much more extensive than just replacing the flapper), I did not quibble. For some reason, the replacement parts that Jesse had did not function properly, and he had to swap out the parts (which were brand new, in packaging) three times before the toilet was fixed and stopped running. While this did not instill confidence in the quality of the parts, which I think came from Ace Hardware, in the end they worked and the toilet has been fine since then. I had a larger concern about what seems to be a leak under the washtub in the laundry room (on the other side of the wall of the bathroom) that was causing the floor there to deteriorate and collapse, and I thought it might have something to do with the constantly running toilet, but Jesse indicated it probably had to do with the a leak coming from above (the kitchen sink is directly above). However, we did not discuss investigating this issue further or what it would cost, as it was pretty far outside the scope of the appointment. While I was initially a little uncomfortable over the misunderstanding about the price, I thought that it was not an unfair price given the time it took to remedy the problem, and Jesse was professional and diligent. And I wasn't sure if I misunderstood the estimate, which may have shifted upward slightly in consideration of the added labor involved. I don't know. I was just glad to have the shut off valve and the toilet no longer running.

A pipe in my basement burst and the plumber was responsive. I was worried about not being without water for a long time but they showed up quickly and fixed the problem. I thought the price was a bit high considering all he did was solder the pipe with the blowtorch. It was quick and efficient.

Did a great job with a good price, however clean up was poor. I had to clean up the water/mess after Jess left.|Based on my experience my son called Jess to see if they'd fix a clogged sink drain (not an emergency). My son told Jess it was not an emergency just whenever they could get around to it. Jess sent someone from his emergency response team. They could not fix the clogged drain, charged us $169 and left us to clean up the mess. We will not be using Captain Rooter again.

Did they do the job? Absolutely, and they did it well. However, we were told that they would be arriving between 10-Noon and they were not at our door until after 6pm!! Now I understand that things happen, however we didn't receive a phone call to let us know that they would be late until 3pm and that was AFTER we called to complain.
If all you want is a job done, and done reasonably well, I would recommend. However, if you are looking for someone to reliably show up on time (or at least provide notice), I would advise to go a different route.

When he arrived I told him about water damage to a lower level ceiling area. I told him I was planning to update the lower level and couldn't afford to have more damage. He ran the shower and toliet, decided it was a toliet leaking, reseated the toliet but it didn't fix the problem. I opened the ceiling and he found the shower drain system was the problem. he said he would send a written repair estimate. The estimate never came. I still have a water problem. I paid a lot to have a toliet reseated.
Response from Captain Rooter Emergency Plumbers Chicago

"Im Jesse the plumber that went out to this property ,Yes i inspected threw a hole in the ceiling and went up stairs and found there toilet was loose (like a rocking chair) and was install incorrect when i let customer know he said it was something that was done by a non professional. So had to replace toilet wAX ring with spacer and new bolts wasnt the easiest job due to fix someone elses mistakes so tested it and the leak had slow down but there was still water, but toilet was tight and seal now. Open up ceiling more and discovered the tub was leaking too, well try to take out tub drain to reset it and come to find out THE UNPROFESSIONAL put pipes in Croocked and would no seal flush Way bigger job and couldnt be done with the 2hr deal so customer ask me how much & can u send me a est and i said i can gave U a verbal estimate right now it would be about $585 he said ok i let you know...Sorry that he felt that we coulndnt fix his problem in 2 hrs but that job alone was about a 4hr job to get up into ceiling and cut out and fix it the correct way."
