Replacement went great. They were very professional and cleaned the area more than I had. The took the time to go over different options with us and we got the best price and better items than Mattex was offering us. They also offer 0% financing which was great.

Lanz installed a new furnace and air conditioner. Thus far, everything appears to be working well.

The short version:
Lanz was pleasant to deal with; however, if I had blindly listened to what their technician told me, I would have purchased a new furnace (through their company!) instead of paying another company $375 to replace a warranty-covered part.
The long version:
Trevor came out to complete the furnace check and he was prompt, courteous, and wore shoe covers to protect our home's floor. Unfortunately, he found that our heat exchanger had a small crack and had to condemn our furnace. This was an unwelcome surprise to say the least.
Trevor was polite but less than helpful when it came to explaining the problem. He couldn't answer my questions about repairing the heat exchanger except to say that it would be too expensive to justify fixing our 18 year old furnace. He shut off our heat and made an appointment for a Lanz and quot;comfort consultantand quot; to discuss our options for a new furnace later that week.
I wasn't satisfied with Trevor's explanation and felt another opinion was necessary before purchasing a new furnace so I requested that Lanz send another technician. Michael, a senior technician, was at my house in less than two hours. Michael confirmed the problem and was more thorough in explaining the problem. He answered our questions and also told us that the heat exchanger was under warranty, an important fact that Trevor didn't tell us. Michael showed us and quot;the bookand quot; with Lanz's flat rate pricing and I was shocked to find that it would cost over $1,000 to replace the warranty-covered part. (And that's with our and quot;special discountand quot; as service agreement holders.)
I called several other companies to price out the labor and found that Lanz's price was WELL OVER DOUBLE the cost of every other company I contacted. I ended up using another company who replaced the part in three hours the next day. If I had listened to the first technician Lanz sent without seeking a second opinion and pricing other companies, I would have bought a new furnace instead of paying $375 for a warranty-covered part. To me, that is unacceptable. I cancelled my service member agreement (that I was encouraged to buy the first time I called) and I will not be using Lanz again.
Response from Lanz Heating & Cooling Inc

"We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review and share your experiences, both good and bad. Unfortunately, we must admit that we were responsible for the problems encountered during your services. Lack of training and an incorrect use of our pricing system led to less than acceptable customer service--something that we do not take lightly. The price you should have been given was around $500. Since this was brought to our attention, the management team at Lanz Heating & Cooling has resolved all issues and clarified any/all misunderstandings to ensure that this does not happen again in the future. We sincerely apologize for our error and would love to make this up to you in any way possible! Troy Lanz President"

First of all, there is a lot more to a project like this than meets the eye. Up front, they did a lot of leg work, including two visits to my house (I live an hour away from their shop) just to properly size what they were going to bid. They also helped me with utility company incentives and manufacturer rebates, including helping me with the paperwork for a speciali incentive loan through the utility company. Once the installation day arrived (it took two whole days), they arrived on time, took great care with my property, and did a good job removing the old system and installing the new system. They gave me thorough training on the system and tested it several times before pronouncing it working. I calculate that their total man-hours in my project, including paperwork and non-installation related things, totaled between 40 and 50 man hours, so it was a large project, at least from my point of view.
The work was done professionally. They answered all of my questions and took great care with the installation. I would recommend them for similar projects.

"The homeowner purchased an upgrade item for the outdoor unit which was completely unrelated to the condensate drain issue. Therefore a refund was not issued for the total amount, but for labor only. As you can see, we are a company that stands behind our work, and if a mistake is made, we are more than happy to refund the money associated with that portion of the bill. Troy Lanz President"

The actual installation process went fine although there is no real way to evaluate the quality of this particular project until put to the test by mother nature. Yesterday and for most of the past week, we have experienced extremely heavy rains. I came home from work yesterday and found my basement under a few inches of water and it was obvious that the sump pump had stopped working as that entire corner of the basement was completely submerged and not appearing to function including the water powered sump pump which was completely underwater.
The work was done 3 years ago, but to the best of my knowledge this was the first time the backup unit was put to the test and obviously failed miserably and also the first time as a result my basement has taken on water throughout.
I called Lanz this morning to have somebody come out and take a look and they indicated that I would be charged $69 for this visit and that the warranty was only good for a year. I explained that although it had been 3 years since the install, this was the first time as best as I can tell that unit was put to work and that I should not be charged for this visit given all the money I had previously spent and for the failure of the work performed. The manager was contacted and still they refused to waive this $69 fee just to come out.
Rest assured, I will not be doing business with Lanz Heating and Cooling in the future based on this treatment of paying customers. I paid extra to have this type of electricity and battery independence as described initially by Lanz and some peace of mind but that is all lost now unfortunately.
Response from Lanz Heating & Cooling Inc

"Lanz Heating & Cooling takes pride in being a no-surprises company, and providing the best possible service to each and every one of our customers. The $69 diagnostic charge is made aware to everyone and ensures that we are able to send a certified technician with a fully stocked truck to your home. This also allows for a complete and thorough evaluation of your equipment. This works to your benefit in that if the problem found is something simple, there may not be an additional charge. If it is something more complicated however, the technician will go over both repair and pricing options that best fit your needs, and potentially waive the diagnostic charge. I would also like to note that back-up sump pumps are put to the test during almost every heavy rainfall.I know that last summer was a drought, however since your back-up pump was installed 3 years ago, this would not have been the first time it was put to the test. This is also why Lanz offers the 1 year warranty on both parts and labor. However, even once that warranty has expired, we still honor the manufacturer’s warranty which is valid for 3 years from the date of manufacture. Sump pumps, like any machine, require proper maintenance in order to increase equipment life and ensure proper function. Simply filling several buckets of water and tossing it into the sump pit is the fastest, easiest way to make sure that your pump is operating correctly at all times. Regular plumbing maintenances and checks such as this can help prevent major flooding emergencies when Illinois weather gets temperamental. Troy Lanz President"

Called Lanz. They arrived on time. Determined they would need to go back to the shop and get a new faucet. They rebuilt a second faucet. By this time, they were too late to pick up a new faucet the same day. Technician came back the next day and completed the job. Work was very satisfactory and the technician was very professional. However, the price seemed high.

The best way to describe Lanz's performance is to provide you the letter I sent to them. I have omitted last names due to privacy concerns.
and quot;Dear Ma'am or Sir,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of what I suspect you already know--that is, what a truly exceptional employee you have in Jacob *****. On a Friday night in late June of this year, my family again experienced a defective water heater issue that was the source of much frustration. Based on Jacob's sage advice, I decided to forego further repairs and opted to purchase a tankless water heater that could not be installed until the following Monday. Despite Jacob's full schedule on that day, he began installation after his normal working hours and remained at our residence well after 10 p.m. to complete the task. The entire time, Jacob's calm demeanor and jovial attitude reflected his consummate professionalism. I cannot express in mere words what it meant to my family to have hot water after three days. In addition, Jacob returned the following morning to ensure our satisfaction. His dedication and professionalism is not only a credit to his fine character, but also a credit to your business reputation.
In closing, I would be remiss if I did not also compliment Shannon, your wonderful customer service representative, for her coordination assistance and welcoming understanding. As a direct result of these two professionals, you corporation has my family's loyalty.and quot;
The tankless water heater continues to work well without any problems. I highly recommend Lanz for your heating and cooling needs.

Upon discovering that I had a furnace not working, the problem was identified as an expensive piece of equipment was not performing properly. Because the equipment piece was expensive, I decided to take bids on replacing the furnace. Lanz Heating and Cooling was one of the companies I contacted for a proposal. Curt froom Lanz quickly responded and submitted 3 proposals for my consideration. This was after he did a complete and thorough assessment of my home, by going down into the crawl space, examining the duct work, went up into the attic to determine insulation levels and measured my home room by room. He also checked the electric panel box for capacity. I reviewed the 3 proposals he gave me, and decided on a new high efficience furnace and air conditioner. The work could not be done for approximately 7 days due to other commitments, but Lanz loaned me the failing part so that I would have heat until they could replace my furnace. No extra charge for loaning the part. The technicians arrived on the 27th of Novemver, and replaced the furnace and air conditioner so there was heat by 4:30 in the afternoon. The technicians were professional, skilled, considerate of my home, and worked steadily throughout the day. Upon completion, a supervisior reviewed the installation to make sure I was satisfied and that there were no problems. Three weeks after the installaation, the supervisor came to my home to again review the installation, and to see if I had any questions. I would strongly recommend Lanz Heating and Cooling.

We're on a monthly payment plan to service heating and cooling units plus our whole house humidifier.
When the 'annual' cleaning/inspections are done there is rarely an extra charge.
Do contact Lanz for any of your heating/cooling needs. Our serviceman Jake is always polite and courteous. Very informative about the units so we understand how everything is working. Prompt, cleans up, asks if we have any questions.
We have an appt next week to have a gas line run for a new stove. Wes came out within a couple of days to give us an estimate. Appt is scheduled out one week to do the job. Satisfied with the estimate and the appointment scheduling to do the job.

They are a pretty big company in this area. We were very pleased and the service was professional. We had to call them back to do a little bit of fine tuning and they were very responsive, very clean, and we were very happy with them. I would highly recommend them. We paid around $8000 for a whole heating and air conditioning system.

MUCH TOO EXPENSIVE. Felt like we got "taken" and overpaid by at least $400.
Response from Lanz Heating & Cooling Inc

"The above mentioned price was a quote and agreed to by both parties before the work was started. There are a couple of other things that need to be considered when looking at this particular situation. One is the fact that door trim had to be removed and reinstalled after the water heater was replaced. Two, there was an after hours service call that was in the water heater replacement quote. My on call tech billed out 1-1/2 hours which was paid out as overtime. The new water heater (50 gallon) was installed the next day. We also went above and beyond our normal procedure to allow the homeowner to pay 1/2 down and remainder in March at no additional cost. As you can see all things considered the price was very fair."

It was a better furnace and an air conditioner than what some of the other companies I checked with was offering. They claimed that they had to do a lot of work on the inside of my house. People who I eventually hired didn't do any of that. I got about five quotes, which was the same as the quote I got from Lanz Heating and Cooling Inc. I know that as long as the furnace and the air conditioner works fine, how these people put it in is not an issue. I wanted to see what everybody was saying about different products. I plan to find out the good and bad features of each one because it is going to be a much larger investment than the last time. Twelve years ago, I had put a furnace and an air conditioner in my town house that was not so much smaller and the price was only $2800. It was still a huge price. My brother had recently put one in, he has a much bigger house than mine, and he is paying $4700 for bigger units. It made me think why it is so expensive in Champaign. My brother told me that they have much more companies so the competition is tougher. I feel like most of the quotes that I received were out of line. My experience with the quote process with Lanz Heating and Cooling Inc was fine. They were high but they were also giving me a bigger furnace. They offered me a 90,000 BTU and I needed only an 80,000 BTU, so, I understand that there was a certain amount of difference there. I got a 14 SEER and they were giving me a 15 SEER, so, I understand that there was a certain amount of difference there. However, they were still $2000 higher; I just didn't see that. I would not go to them for another quote in the future.
Response from Lanz Heating & Cooling Inc

"We at Lanz Heating and Cooling take great pride in the fact that we are well above and beyond the average contractor. We know what it takes to deliver the quality and level of service our clients expect. We go above and beyond just installing new equipment. We know what it takes to deliver the efficiency our customers pay for. For example if you purchase a 90% efficient furnace and we install it to a leaky duct system the efficiency level goes down. The operating cost will go up and the owner will not get the full benefit of what they purchased from our company. I would expect our quotes to be higher than all the other contractors who did not see the need to deliver the same quality of work. This is why it is hard to compare the quotes when our scope of work was greater than the rest. Troy Lanz President"

Overall the job went well. Lanz worked well with us and the General Contractor (TimberCreek Developers).

Total payment amount above is approximate, Lanz was paid by the General Contractor.

All HVAC work was well done, and I would definitely use Lanz for Heating and Air-conditioning work in the future.

The plumbing work had one snag, but was satisfactorily completed on time. The 5 foot shower unit was installed with a hole in the base portion of the two-piece unit. Lanz initially wanted to have the hole repaired, since the unit was installed, however we wanted a new shower installed and an new one was installed. Unfortunately the new shower is not as deep as the original, and had a right-hand drain instead of a center drain like the original shower, which required concrete removal and re-plumbing of the shower waste line. The bath waste lines were and quot;roughed-inand quot; by the original builder.

When Lanz came back to do work, they seemed to usually send a different crew, we would have liked to have had only one crew assigned to the plumbing portion of our job.
