Three movers showed up and one focused on carefully wrapping items the entire time.  They were professional and polite.  Very few items had minor scratches but nothing was majorly damaged traveling across the country.

They showed when expected and put me at ease within a couple minutes.  Friendly, courteous and professional.  They worked hard, did an amazing job and completed the move without a single thing breaking.   For an incredibly stressful situation, they were the easiest part of the ordeal.   I'd recommend them to everyone.

Entire staff was very helpful since this was my first time using a professional moving company. They met every expectation and delivered in service everything they told me they would perform. I contacted Glen Ellyn via email and a representative was available within two business days to provide an estimate. The process was very quick and my household goods were packed and shipped within two weeks of the original date of contact.
The individuals packing, loading, driving, and unloading were extremely courteous and professional. The rate was locked when I signed the agreement, and that was all I paid. The only damage was a glass that I packed myself!

The movers at the pick up destination were pleasant, efficient, and experienced. The move of the furniture went well, and no damage was detected, even though there were several delicate items.  The one problem was that when the piano arrived at destination, the movers in that location were unprepared to deliver a piano to a third floor walk-up apartment.  I had to hire another company to deliver the piano to the third floor. At first I brought my complaint to Glen Ellyn, and they directed me to call Mayflower, where the representative was completely unresponsive to my complaint and rude. However, after contacting Glen Ellyn again, a very nice representative agreed to fully refund the cost of hiring a second company to bring up the piano. Therefore, I am very satisfied with Glen Ellyn overall. I would still recommend, if moving large specialty items to walk-ups, to ask the company ahead if they truly understand what the delivery entails at destination and to guarantee that they will be able to complete it with no additional charge or outside parties required. 

They were very personable, accessible and answered all of my questions.  They were very attentive and followed through.  Their crew was excellent as well and took great care of my items.

The estimator was professional and it turns out accurate re: amount of work and number of boxes needed. The packer arrived at the appointment time and proceeded to pack the contents of our china cabinet, a corner cabinet, a bookcase and lots of CDs. Then he moved on to the rest of the items. He stacked the boxes in the garage.

Are you comparing movers?  Stop.  You are done.  This is the only place we will ever use again.  From the sales person's patience and thorough walk thru (Bob Broderick) to the unbelievable crew in J.R., his brothers Brandon and Brett, and a 4th mover on each side, we had a terrific experience.  We have two young children and they were absolutely wonderful with our kids.  Its an amazing comfort to know that people will be handling your personal belongings with the greatest care and transporting them between houses over a 4 month period - and at the end, you wind up with all of your things in an orderly fashion, nothing broken, and nothing missing.  If you can get JR and his crew, you will absolutely be guaranteed a fantastic and efficient move.  Brandon spent at least 6 hours on our kitchen and when we unwrapped the boxes, there wasn't a scratch anywhere.  Unbelievable.  They handled furniture, some heavy wooden pieces, art work, pictures, kitchen, electronic components and 2 TVs with the greatest care.
We had just had our floors, stairs and bannisters refinished in our new home when they delivered our things.  I stepped outside for 10 minutes and when I returned there were mats down on every piece of hardwood floor and they actually taped blankets around all of the parts of the bannisters at turning points that might have been scraped.  My 3 year old son adored this team and they actually paid attention to him and talked to him throughout the two moves.  Moves are stressful on kids - these guys were fantastic.
All I can say is that for as long as I live in the Chicago suburbs, this is the only moving company for me and my family.  Part of our cost was for storage and packing so I feel that each component was fairly priced.  Were there cheaper options?  Sure.  But when you pay for a chevy, don't expect a porsche. Glen Ellyn is a really professional organization and they proved it time and time again.
Moves are stressful.  Our stress was really eased by this company.

They had two guys come out for about 3 hours and got it all. They were very polite and professional. They were careful with my stuff. They forgot a couple of boxes, but it was not a big deal. I would recommend them.

The job was completed in 7 hours versus the 8 hours quoted.  Jose, Rick, Javier, and Moses comprised the crew assigned.  Jose identified himself and the crew.  They were organized and worked efficiently.  All my furniture was wrapped in pads and arrived without damage.  The only breakage was an ornamental outdoor pagoda.  Given the quantity of items moved I was impressed that the move went so smoothly and without significant loss.

I have moved numerous times and this is the first move without significant loss or damage.

It was excellent.  There was no damage, they showed up early, they were flexible, accommodated my needs, handled my possessions with care, and were friendly and professional.  It was simply perfect.

Overall, I would give them all A?s. These guys were really awesome.

I  had no trouble.  All the moving boxes I got for free.  I had to pick them up at their office but it was still free.  They also gave me tape to tape the boxes.  My contact person called me before, during, and even after the move.  They were good.  The driver and his helpers did a great job.  I have not complaints about them at all.

The first and third moves went  very smoothly.  However, during the second move, we had items that were broken and scratched (including a Pottery Barn kids activity table, a Room & Board mattress, and a side table).  We submitted a claim form on 4/9/10 and it took until 6/25/10 to resolve the claim ... not my idea of responsiveness ... and even then we had follow-up questions on the claim (which were not satisfactorily addressed).

My main concern, however, related to promises made when the salesperson sold us on the service in the first place.  We were told that we would get a refund on the boxes (since they were supplying us with used boxes).  After the third move, we called to have the boxes picked-up. At the time of pick-up, we asked for a receipt but was told that was not necessary.  Then the saga began.  After repeated attempts to get a refund on the boxes (from 8/8/11 - 11/8/11 - a total of 3 months), today we finally received a check but not without a fight.  I was told that they could not refund us the cost of the boxes because: 1. they had no record that I paid for the boxes (despite me producing documentation to the contrary) and 2. they had no record of the number of boxes returned.  They left it at that.  However, I then filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and, amazingly, within a day I got a call offering a refund.

Moral of the story - get every promise made in writing, a receipt for everything, and a record of all boxes returned.  The responsiveness and customer focus just was not there.

Everything went smoothly—from loading the truck to unloading. We needed extra time to store our belongings and they had no problem rescheduling the delivery date.

Timing was not right so we ended up using a mover from the state we were moving to.

Called to get a quote.  Steven came out, on time, and gave a written estimate. (FYI - movers will only give estimates as it depends on how ready the owner is, final number of boxes, beds to break down, etc).   We had two quality estimates and they were a bit lower than another Angies list quality mover ( who also impressed us) .  We signed up with Glen Ellyn ( who is part of Mayflower I believe) - and they showed up on time as scheduled - ready to go.   Put down floor coverings, wrapped some stair woodwork.  There was a couple of drywall dings at basement header - very minor considering all the big stuff we had with VERY tight stairs. The guys were all polite and offered help with the final things that we were packing - as the y were loading.  Best thing is that they were all hustling - which is key since you pay by the hour, with movers.  I suggest asking for James ( if possible ?) - he's not a big guy but he's a hauling god.  He carried most of the heavy and difficult stuff and was typically carrying 3 boxes at a time ( and he doesn't sweat - wierd).  Summary: They got it done fast, no surprises, no delays, furniture in tact,  and met their estimate.  Excellent job.

DO:  Just my suggestion which seemed to work well - Add a easy-to-read label to the top of the moving boxes - with what room it is to go in -  then put a sign on the door in the new house with that same room name - so they know EXACTLY which room to put stuff.  We  tore a piece of neon orange duct tape and stuck it to top of each box - for the tag - and used a sharpie to label it.  Easy to distinguish from previous markings on boxes.

Don't :  Don't worry - there seems to be a reason for all the positive reviews - if it went anything like mine.

Among items moved were a number of antiques, including china, and several old paintings. While the packers worked quickly, they used the utmost care in preparing everything for the move. On the day of the move, I was pleased to see that by the luck of the draw, the same crew that packed everything showed up to move it as well. The bottom line is everything came through the move undamaged.

Stephen Price, Corporate Account Manager, provided us with a very detailed and comprehensive estimate and this set the tone for what was a very well coordinated and executed move. I would not hesitate to recommend the services of Glen Ellyn Moving and Storage any of my friends.
