We hired A-1 to perform a cleaning and inspection of our fireplace in connection with the sale of our home. It was really smooth.... they were very easy to book, punctual on the day of the appointment and reasonably priced. I'd recommend A-1 for any chimney related needs.

They were on time and professional.

Everything went great, there were no surprises. They kept the area they were working in covered so nothing around the fireplace got dirty during the clean. I was able to see all pictures of the work and even them doing the work! Now I know I can safely have a fire this winter and no cold air coming in!

It went very well. Vendor called early and arrived on time. Swept out my fireplace chimney and made repair recommendations to keep my fireplace running safe. Good chance of bringing them back for more work. No complaints.

Technicians were on time and courteous. They performed the chimney sweep service as expected as well as inspected the various components of the chimney. They pointed out and documented (with photos) a couple of areas of concern and recommended repairs. We will be making the necessary repairs in the spring.

Their work was great. But the pressure to have them perform the additional work was not.

The vendor promptly showed up and went to work. In short order, they cleaned the chimney--then showed me pictures of the cap, as well as a small crack at the top of the chimney. Great overall service.

I don't know if I was taken, but they said major stuff needed to be done. They said we needed to re-line the chimney because inside it was cracked in a year or two for $2500 New gas logs and stuff $1350.00 I found it on amazon for one half the price We bought the house one year ago, and my husband reminded me the home inspector said nothing was wrong with the chimney. I bought chimney sweep but was told I had major problems that would cost me thousands of dollars.

We have owned our house for seven years and have never had the chimney cleaned, so when Angie's list had a special offer we took advantage of it. A1 had good ratings with Angie's - but we didn't know what to expect. As promised, we were called the night before the appointment to confirm. I didn't get home from work until after 8 p.m., but called anyway, expecting to leave a message. Nope, someone answered the phone (not a 'service' either - someone who could actually confirm my appointment) and we confirmed details. The next morning, Bill called 30 minutes before arriving (as I was told he would do). He showed up, was friendly, put on booties, and examined the chimney on the inside. We shared that the last time we lit a fire, the smoke backed up into the room, and he immediately asked if we had had new windows or sliding glass doors installed (which we had). He explained that there was a pressure equalization issue and told us how to potentially fix it. He then grabbed a ladder and he and his colleague cleaned the chimney. They were in and out in 20 minutes or so - and left no indication at all that they had even been in the house. They were smart, nice and knowledgeable, as well as being priced right. We're very satisfied!

He was very easy to talk to. Very clean process. Gave us good information.

They performed an inspection and found things that I suspected were wrong due to the inspector's report when I bought the house. He showed me the pictures he took of the chimney and gave me the price of everything. When I asked if I could split the procedures and the cost, he was nice enough to even make the future appointments for me. I will certainly use the company again and recommend them to everyone.

I recently moved into my home and wanted the gas fireplace and chimney cleaned and checked for damage, leaks, etc. Mark and Chris from A-1 arrived promptly after a "we're en route call" 20 minutes earlier. Mark took one look up the flue and remarked that the chimney was spotless and needed no cleaning at all. They fired it up and checked for leaks and proper operation. Everything was fine. They then went on the roof to check things out up there. They found an issue with seal at the top edge, but really thought that the homeowners association should be responsible for its repair - as it was an original construction issue. I was impressed that they did not try to "sell" me into having them fix it immediately. Mark then further surprised me, stating that since there was no sweep involved - the charge would only be 55.00. He told me to contact Angie's for a credit for my initial purchase (which I did, and they readily provided). It was agreed that once I was certain that I would receive the credit, I would then mail them a check for the 55.00. This might be the first time in my life that I've been "down-sold"! I would definitely use these guys again.

I live in a third floor condo and needed to have my dryer vent cleaned. I made an appointment with this vendor and explained that I had a stacked washer/dryer in a third floor unit with a dryer vent on the roof. I also explained that this vent had not been cleaned in over 6 years. I spoke to both a customer service person and a manager and when I explained that the dryer was stacked on the washer in a closet, I was told that two men would be sent for the service. Now, because two people at the vendor's company told me this in response to my statement about the INTERIOR situation with the dryer, it was my assumption that something would be done (i.e. cleaned) from the interior...that was not the case. The worker came in and took a photo of the dryer. I asked him about removing the dryer--I had moved things out of the way in my unit so that the workers would have room to work-and he stated that they would clean the dryer from the exterior. What they did was attach multiple metal rods to a drill and place this in the vent from the roof. Apparently, banging this device inside the vent while running the dryer loosens any debris inside. When I talked to the worker after the work and asked to see what had come out of the dryer-I assumed they would place the debris in a bag-he said that as it was windy that the wind blew it away. Afterwards, I looked at the roof and the debris was scattered all over the roof. Since it was windy, I can only assume that some of this material blew right back in the vent. Since I was inside when the service was done per my observation, whatever device they used did not come down into the part of the vent in my unit. Since my dryer is not working any better, I can only assume that there is more debris in the lower part of the vent which I now have to pay another vendor to clear. Additionally, so far, the condo association hasn't sited me for leaving debris from the cleaning on the roof. I think I was misled by this company into thinking that the entire vent would be cleaned and this was not the case. I will not use them again.

Mark and Chris were professional, answered all my questions and did a thorough inspection. Highly recommend!

Everything went well. Office called as a reminder and James the technician called 20 minutes before arrival. James & Brandon were very polite and careful to cover their shoes as well as the fireplace. Brandon picked up their commercial vacuum rather than roll it across my living room. I did not have to ask them. I received a quote to change my gas log fireplace to a more contemporary look and James answered all my questions. I'll do some more research before I make a decision but I felt very confident and comfortable with A-1 Safety Chimney.

I signed up for the special chimney inspection. On 2-2-15 A-1 called & said they would be here in 20 minutes. They arrived 40 minutes later. A-1 appeared to do a fine job whie they were here. A-1 left an estimates of charges for a new cap & reflector shield totaling $627.53. That amount included a 10% Angie's List discount If I purchased immediately. I could not afford that price at that time. I called 10-27-15 to go ahead with the installation. The total amount jumped to $679.25 without the Angie's List discount. I refused.

Crew showed up on time for a Saturday appointment. They cleaned and inspected and showed me pictures of areas of disrepair. The exterior of the chimney had bricks cracking and flaking off, the crown was cracked, and there was a small crack in the fireplace. I was also missing a flue cap on both my fireplace flue and furnace flue. In addition to the $99 cleaning/inspection fee, I paid $216 for a new fireplace flue cap and filling of the fireplace crack. Seemed a tad high since they were already there, but not too out of whack with market standards. They did try to push some more expensive options and convince us to spend more money but tactics weren't too pushy. Mostly just recommendations that we didn't take at the time.

These guys were great! They were very accommodating to my changing schedule. Upon arrival they were friendly, respectful of my home and worked quickly and efficiently. Plus they took the time to thoroughly explain suggestions for improvements and answered my questions. I would definitely recommend A-1 Safety Chimney Service!

They arrived within the schedule time frame ,service guy was very friendly and professional. He evaluated and installed my chimney very quickly and professionally, he also noticed a few small cracks in my chimney and sealed them at no extra charge. I received great service with no stress!!!! I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for the services. It was easy to schedule them for a good time and they arrived promptly. They cleaned up what little mess was left after cleaning the chimney from the inside. They also went up and took pictures of the chimney above the roof to show me its condition and provided a quote for repairs. I have not decided when to do the repairs, but will get other quotes first, of course.

I appreciated the free estimate done based on visit to my home. I was able to get a lower quote from another chimney tuckpointing service company.

inspected chimney, cleaned chimney and cleaned up area around fireplace. Left the foyer spotless. Climbed on roof to install chimney caps. Bill and Mike were very professional.

Overall the service was fine; they were not great about communicating what needs to be done and why with the repairs, and when I requested follow-up details, it has been slow and painful (I still have not talked to one of their repair people/inspectors on what really needs to be done and it is several months later now).
