On the day of installation they actually arrived early which was good because it started to rain just as they finished the installation.
The exterior trim boards had to be removed and they were very careful to avoid damaging the boards or the aluminum siding.
The old windows had minimal flashing, the original builder just taped the window frames to the Tyvek house wrap. For the installation of the new window, Next Door & Window first used a waterproofing membrane on the bottom and sides of the window opening. Then on the outside he used many rows of the membrane/flashing (top, bottom and sides) to water proof the area which would be under the trim boards. He even took the time to slide a few inches of each row of the flashing under the aluminum siding. When he finished the installation he asked if I had any paint that matched the trim board (I did) and he touched up the nails used on the trim boards.
Next Door has always been prompt in responding to our needs. They call prior to set up and installation and their salesman, Robert Guzman, whom we've worked with twice now, did a great job. Follow up calls are always made to insure we are happy with our windows. Marvin Infinity is a high quality window and we are impressed with how well the window trim matches that moulding in the rooms. Next Door custom matches and does all the finishing work. The windows are effortless and so easy to clean plus they have the added bonus of energy conservation!
Our installer was the same for both projects and was quick and efficient. In about 6 hours our 6 windows were replaced. And they clean up so well! Next Door has quality installers who really know their craft. I would recommend Next Door & Window in a heartbeat and will be calling them for the next round of replacement windows. As a side note, we looked at Andersen Renewal for our first project and were not impressed. The sales people were uninformed and couldn't answer questions my husband had about the installation process. We had visited their store in Yorktown.
You can't go wrong with Next Door & Window?class act!
Shortly thereafter, a contractor came out to my place to take exact measurements for installation ... and an installation date was scheduled. Representative kept me informed at each stage. On April 6th, my window was installed. The installer was extremely professional, knowledgeable, conscientious, and cleaned up any debris left on my deck or floor. He seemed very experienced and technically precise. He did a great job with every detail ... and answered any questions I had along the way.
Overall, I would recommend NEXT to anyone looking to replace windows or doors. I would definitely use them for any future window or door replacements. I would also strongly suggest that anyone thinking of getting doors or windows take the time to visit the NEXT showroom ... it will give you a great idea of the various window styles, materials, colors, surfaces, hardware options, and other features available. There are several people on location to answer any questions you may have. I found this so helpful.
He did not seem very knowledgeable about the products he was selling or the sales materials he was using.
I asked him to leave but he said he needed to stay until the repair guys showed up so I agreed.
At this point I decided to just focus on the front door. He had a lot of brochures with different doors available. He was not able to show me a list or even point to the doors that would fit in my entry doors. We had to pick and then check if the style/model I liked would fit. (I have a standard door size door but wanted to change a single door with sidelights to just a double door)
When we finally found one that fit he looked up the costs and made a list and then put the numbers into his laptop and showed me a blind estimate on the computer. Even though I watched him compile all of the costs in a list when I asked him how much the doors were separately he said that he didn't know and then had no way to breakdown the costs. Instead he said he had a video to show me to justify the costs. I felt like he was lying to my face.
I said the cost was very expensive about $3700 and his response was that he understood and that they actually only "close" 34% of the in home estimates. I asked him if there was anything that he could do to lower the costs since my budget was closer to $1500-2000 for the front door maybe a different door or something he had no suggestions. He gave me instead a story about how "hard" it is to change out a door and all of the extra work and aluminum casing and how many men it took to do the work at different stages of the installation as if it would take a week to change one front door. The excuses wore me out and again made me feel like he was lying. I have never received a written or emailed estimate of any kind.
3/16/13 The owner Scott called and apologized for the damage to the window and expressed it was an accident. He also apologized for not being able to do business with us...he didn't seem interested in our business.
We have guests for St Pats today and they noticed that there was a draft from this window not aware of the fiasco with Next Door and when we looked at the window we found that they had also split the frame on the window pane. I am going to have to replace the entire window now. Unbelievable.
3/20/2012 The owner Scottie called and emailed and then came out and inspected the window and did a written estimate for replacing all the windows on the ground floor. THEY ARE REPLACING THE BROKEN WINDOW AND INSTALLATION AT NO COST TO US. We are also replacing 3 others so that they all look the same. He also did an estimate on the front door and is checking to get us the best price on the door that we want.
He has been communicating with us daily and has gone above and beyond to make sure that we are happy and they replace what they accidentally broke.
"Thank you very for taking the time to provide a review. Your feedback and your business are appreciated very much. Justin - owner"
I think Next misses the mark a bit. Yes, I want quality, but it still needs to be at at fair and competitive price.
"Thank you for your review. At the time of our initial visit, we thought the member wanted wood removable grilles, which are only available in the wood series windows. The wood series windows are generally at a higher price point than vinyl windows. Vinyl windows are availbale with grilles between the glass and grilles permanently adhered to the exterior surface of the glass, but not removable. We misunderstood the customer's willingness to accept a different grille type with the vinyl windows. We didn't fully understand the customer's interest in the vinyl product and therefore did not quote it. The customer ended up buying the vinyl product. We do offer high quality vinyl, fiberglass, and wood windows in both full frame and pocket installation. We try to find the best product for each homeowner's home and budget. We are sorry we missed the mark on this one. Justin- Owner"
Despite the weather being down into the low teens on the 3 install days, the crews showed up promptly, were very polite and friendly, kept the mess to a minimum and cleaned up well after themselves.
We were told that their had been some rot and carpenter ant damage around one of the doors being replaced and that was all cleaned up, repaired and replaced as needed before the new door was installed.
I was extremely happy with the work provided by the company and will certainly hire them again for the work we are planning in the future.
Mike Gleason came out for 1 1/2 hours the first day to give us an estimate, but since he was the first vendor we met with, we didn't made a decision that day. A few weeks later, when we decided on Next to do our door, he came back out and went over all the choices and the paperwork again.
It took about eight weeks to fabricate the door and we got periodic updates during that time. We managed to get it installed the day after it came in because of a last-minute cancellation. It turns out that a lot of the underlying wood in our old door frame was rotten, and they cleared most of it out before installing the new door. It took about four hours, they put down dropclothes and cleaned up before they left -- we didn't have to do any cleaning at all. The door looks fabulous, it's sealed well, and no light comes through except for the windows!
