Auto Tires
They couldn't get me in for a few days!!! I had a flat tire? I had a warranty. Doesn't matter if you can't even get in. What was I supposed to do?

Will rip you off! My son goes to ISU and was having a problem with his diver side front brake. Tuffy quoted $760 for one caliper one rotor and one pad! I thought that was way too high and called m guy here in Naperville and he said it should be about $450. Checked around and got it done at Baird for $485 and that included pads on both sides.
Stay away from Tuffy! They saw a college kid and thought they could soak him.

"Your comments describing the estimate are inaccurate. We quoted one new "loaded" (all hardware and bracket) caliper, one new set of brake pads (both front wheels), 2 new brake rotors, 2 new wheel bearing grease seals, and a new RF lower ball joint (loose). I hope in the future when comparing estimates you will compare apples to apples and not apples to oranges to be fair to other repair facilities. We provide a lifetime warranty on brake pads and a 2yr/24,000 mile warranty on everything else. Because of this we only use the best parts available for the repair. We do not advertise to be the cheapest or are we the most expensive but we do like to be compared fairly to our peers. Brandon Newbanks/Owner"

I of course can't speak for everyone's experience that has taken place at this location, but my last experience has weighed heavily on my mind to the point where I feel like I need to put it out there out of obligation to fellow posters on this site. It's more a matter of principle more than anything else at this point. In a society where it's very difficult to trust anyone, especially those in the auto repair service, it's very difficult to find anyone or anyplace that contradicts the stereotype that surrounds those in the auto service or sales industry. True snakes in the grass they are believed to be and from past experiences I've had my share of dealing with underhanded salesmen and repairmen .
I'm not sure if the place is under new ownership, but I informed whoever the attendee (definitely the owner) was that day that the fog lamp bulb on the passenger side of my Pontiac G8 had gone out. He told me it would be $20 for the labor and the end result including the cost of the part would be the $79.00 which I eventually paid. Immediatey to me it seemed like it was high for a bulb change even though he had already insisted it was only $20.00 for the labor. I volunteered to go pick up the bulb myself believing it would be cheaper if i went and got it personally. He insisted that he wasn't making any money off the bulb so it was no big deal in him going to get. I still wasn't convinced he wasn't getting over, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He eventually goes and gets the bulb and the fix takes all of 15-20 minutes at most. He tries to make small talk after the fact, but i wasn't having it. I just knew something wasn't right.
It just so happened not even a day or two later the fog lamp bulb went out on the drivers side. I decided to go and purchase the bulb myself. I checked a couple of places both of which sold the same bulb for the same exact price, but only one was able to provide it. The bulb was $26.93 at the Auto Zone in Normal. I went down the street and had someone at Baird's Auto Center do the install for $10. I reflected back to how this guy at Tuffy claimed he was making nothing off the bulb and yet it appears he charged me twice what it actually cost him when he could have just as easily suggested i go and pick up the part myself especially when I volunteered to do so. They've seen the last of my business and I hope future customers might take precaution with dealing with this guy. If he can't be trusted with the little things then he certainly can't be trusted with the big things. At the very least do your own research part wise and get ideas from other shops in the are on labor prices, because they clearly appear to be more out for themselves then the customer at this location.

Response from TUFFY AUTO SERVICE CENTER
"I understand and appreciate everyone has different thoughts and expectations about automotive repairs. I can only speak for how our facility handles it's customers and the repairs performed on their vehicles. We provide a 2 year/24,000 mile warranty on all of our repairs which goes above and beyond the standard in this industry of 12 months/12,000 miles. Because of that we only use the best quality parts and labor. In [removed member name]'s case the bulb was an OEM part from the dealer vs. a lesser quality part from an aftermarket store and the labor charged was less than the $20.00 he was quoted($18.73). I do not recall telling [removed member name] that we were not making any money off of the part. We like all businesses have to make some profit. We use Alldata labor time guide just as thousands of other shops and new car dealerships also use that gives us the appropriate amount of time required to perform any repair or maintenance service. Alldata shows fog lamp bulb price of $104.84 and labor time to replace a bulb at .3 of an hour. As you can see we are well below what this industry standard recomends. We do not claim to always be the cheapest nor will we be the most expensive. Auto repair unfortunately does have a tarnished reputation but that is due to the actions of the few and not all shops like ours take part in that kind of business. Ethics and proper treatment of customers is of utmost importance for us. We continue to have a growing and satisfied customer base due to how our business operates itself."
