but because the village did not have anyone on staff to turn-off the main shut-off valve from the street they
eventually had to leave, and they gave us a number to call just in case someone came from the village (who I will not
name but whom I think must have the worst resident rapport in Illinois!)
Finally on Mon we got someone to turn off the main and within an hour Hannahs Plumbing was on site to make the repairs to the shutoff main and fixed the water issue. We then called the village back so that they could turn the water back on to allow
Hannah's plumber to test for leaks. Finally after about an 1.5 hours they had to leave but gave us a number to call back if we discovered any leaks once it was restored. No problems to report and I certainly appreciate the patience they exhibited during this
process. They will definitely have my business again!!!!!
He did sloppy work - he burnt the inside of our sink cabinet and wood along the base of the wall, he did sloppy soddering and left splotches and drips all over the new floor, which he didn't clean up, and he left his water bottle on the floor. In our prep work, we aligned and laid out a lot of the pipes, cut holes in the floor and cabinet interior to accommodate the pipes, dry-fit the cabinet, but in sweating the pipes, he moved them so the cabinet was out of alignment. We now need to make some adjustments so the cabinets fit.
Lastly, he initially quoted us $250, after inspecting the work to be done, then when done, he charged us $300, for less than two hours of work, after hearing I had a 10% discount from Angie's List. Overall, it was a negative and frustrating experience that caused more harm than good.
We had a slow kitchen drain which we dumbly tried to treat with Drano. All it did is flush out the gunk that was sealing the 90 year old pipes. If I could post a picture of the pipes that came out I would, because they were just amazing.
We had called Hannah before we saw the leaks, so that was a good thing. They came out quickly, diagnosed the problem, and replaced the worn out pipes. They thought they would have to replace more, but were able to fix the one area that was leaking (a cap or something) instead of a huge pipe. Nice guys, quick, and even helped to teach me where my water shutoffs were. On top of it, they got along with our two big dogs.
The work itself took less than 20 minutes. The plumber had to leave at the start of the job to buy a replacement stem for my kitchen faucet (he didn't have one on the truck). He was gone for about 30 minutes in doing so. All said and done, from the time he first came through the door to the time I paid the bill, about an hour.
I called Hannah's after the fact to discuss the cost of these services. Getting a straight answer from Michael and Greg Hannah was no easy task. Basically, I was told that in the future they would have fixed pricing on services such as these, but right now they don't , and therefore bill for time. When I asked what their hourly rate was, neither Michael nor Greg would provide me with a straight answer. Both informed me that they charge based on howlong it takes to drive to the residence, and they also charge for time if they have to leave to get a part (as was the case with me).
Based on my experience with Michael and Greg Hannah, I will not be using this company in the future. I felt that both of these guys were less than transparent in their justification for the cost of the work. I also feel charging for travel time and time spent buying parts is not industry standard in the Chicago area, and simply Hannah's attempt to inflate their fees. I have confirmed this by talking with other plumbers and asking them about their billing procedures.
Called Hannah Plumbing and Jessie was at the door in less than an hour. He used air pressure to open the line. The whole thing took less than 5 minutes. The price seems high but then I couldn't clear it myself and Hannah's plumbers had the right tools and the know-how to get the job done. That made the cost worth it. Now I can take a shower without having to tread water.
Would positively use again for any plumbing problem.
