S and J Plumbing

On April 23, 2025, S and J Plumbing was contacted to fix my father's garbage disposal and broken pop-up assembly. My father is 80 years old, disabled, and speaks English poorly. The technician (Brandon) first tried to sell him a membership for $99/year. My father declined. Then Brandon looked at the garbage disposal and pop-up assembly and determined that they both needed to be replaced. He went over options and my father said that we wanted the cheapest stuff. Brandon then presented my dad with an estimate of $1950, which seemed excessive to my father. But, he is not a handy guy and did not know how much the parts cost and so he agreed to it. Brandon finished the work in about two hours and my father paid him. After he left, my father called me and we looked up all the prices of the newly installed parts. The new 1/2 HP Insinkerator Badger 5 has an average retail cost of approximately $150. And after physically looking at the assembly he used, I determined that it was around $30. The breakdown of the costs according to the invoice were: Insinkerator install and parts: $1239 Pop-up install and parts: $739 Senior discount: -$25 If you subtract the retail costs of the parts, then the total paid for labor is $1770. Divided by the two hours he was there, S and J Plumbing charged $885/hour for labor costs. Even if the parts were double retail ($300 disposal and $60 pop-up assembly) the hourly would still have been $795/hour. I called S and J Plumbing and asked Joe, the service manager, why the costs were so high (because my father doesn't know any better). He told be that those were the costs in the "book" and did not specify what book. He also refused to discount anything further because already gave a $25 senior discount. We feel that S and J Plumbing took advantage of a senior citizen who does not know any better. In doing further research about S and J plumbling, we can clearly see that this is their standard operating procedure.

Unless this business will learn to give HONEST prices to people in need of prompt and quality service, I will keep continue to regard them as a company with very low professional standards. After a well-crafted "timeshare speech" about how well they have been doing for 6 years, their family-run business, and their use of American-made items, they are still more than willing to saddle you with more than a 400% up-charge when compared to industry standards. This sort of treatment of their clients is utterly disgraceful!!! I never had a frozen pipe issue before, so it took me 24 hr to fully understand what work would be preformed to fix it. The 2 pieces used cost around $50. The final total charge was $ 1405 with a total time spent of 1 hour and 45 minutes (where $50 was waived for 1st time customer and for a 5 star review). To put it bluntly, their approach is completely and disappointingly DISHONEST.

Outstanding and professional service! I woke up to find our water heater had sprung a leak and there was water all over our basement. I called S and J Plumbing and they had a plumber to my home in an hour. Ryan was courteous and super knowledgeable. Most importantly he was able to get a new heater installed right then and there! I would absolutely call them again for any plumbing issues in my home. Highly recommend!!!

Horrible dealing with them. They were so frustrated about the fact they had to come out on Friday evening to fix my leak, despite me paying such a heavy price to them. RUN FOR THE HILLS!!! GREEDY OWNER AND COMPANY! The owner is perhaps one of the rudest, passive aggressive I've come across. They charge at least 40% HIGHER than their competitors. I hired Joe (SnJ) for a job, he gave me a quote of $8800. For the exact work, their competitor gave me a quote of $5000. Joe's only claim to fame is "Since you hired us, we are doing something right" - LOL. You started the work without giving me an estimate!!! essentially trapping me in the midst. Started fixing the toilet for a leak, when the root cause was something else!! He claimed he will look at the competitor quote and adjust pricing - HE NEVER DID!! NEVER HIRE THEM BEFORE COMPARING WITH THEIR PEERS! They are a RIP-OFF. They'll try to sell you on quality - BUT - their work quality average at best! Attitude needs a major upgrade! When i tried to negotiate the price with the owner - he threatened me with a "LEGAL RESPONSE"....HAHAHA...grow up kid! I pray to god we dont have to hire them again...!!
