Valentin was a pleasure to work with. His work is high quality, he’s conscientious about staying on schedule and he’s meticulous about every last detail of the job (including maintaining a clean workspace). Given the scope of the job he also limited our inconvenience to the best of his ability. Although we were replacing two bathrooms, he structured his schedule so there were only a couple of days when we were unable to shower at home. Valentin’s “old world” craftsmanship sets him apart from other contractors. He is genuinely committed to doing high quality work and when sub-contractors are needed he holds them accountable to those same high standards. I highly recommend him and would certainly hire him again.
Description of Work: Gut rehab of master bathroom and guest bathroom as well as various master bedroom improvements. The scope of the work was very extensive. It involved reallocating space within our condo to create a full guest bathroom (from what was previously a ½ bath) and a large master bathroom suite (from what was previously a hallway access master bathroom). It also included reallocating space in the master bedroom to create additional storage space and custom designed plaster wall enclosures for an entertainment system and a floor to ceiling bookcase. Work included the following: Guest bathroom• Demolition and removal of walls, floor and original fixtures.• Reconstruction, plastering and painting of walls & ceiling and installation of new door hardware.• Installation and grouting of floor tiles and wall tiles for new shower.• Installation of shower floor pan, drain and shower hardware.• Installation of toilet, pedestal sink, medicine chest, two wall sconces, 3 ceiling cans, ceiling exhaust fan, two wall speakers and additional electrical outlets. Master bathroom• Demolition and removal of walls, floor and original fixtures.• Removal & raising of original ceiling.• Reconstruction, plastering and painting of walls & ceiling and installation of new glass double doors and related hardware.• Installation and grouting of floor tiles and floor to ceiling tiles in entire room (including shower).• Installation of shower floor pan, drain and shower hardware.• Installation of toilet, double sink vanity, mirrored vanity, two medicine chests, three wall sconces, 6 ceiling cans, ceiling exhaust fan, two wall speakers and additional electrical outlets.• Installation of granite countertop for two vanities and granite finishes for mirrored vanity, windowsill and for wall cubby and custom designed bench within glass enclosed shower. Master bedroom: · Demolition of three walls and installation of a new bedroom doorway, a linen closet and two new floor to ceiling clothes closets. · Reconstruction, plastering and painting of walls & ceiling and installation of new doors and related hardware. · Design and installation of a custom made plaster enclosure for an entertainment system (between the closets) and for a room length floor to ceiling bookcase. · Moving of phone and cable lines and installation of additional electrical outlets, mounting and wiring for flat screen TV and various related components. · Installation of 4 ceiling cans and painting of ceiling and all walls (including plaster enclosures).

We were walked through the whole process before hand, given brochures for the items that we wanted, so we could get an idea of what the choices were, had a separate cost for what he could control (labor), and what he couldn't (what we chose for tiles and fixtures). If Valentine thought we were making a mistake, or were confused by something such as the difference between certain types of tile, he would patently explain his thoughts, and let us have the final decision. We went to several outlets and picked sample tiles and paint, and Valentine worked with us through the whole process by telling what we still needed, and why we needed it. He adjusted his schedule to accommodate us when possible, and for one item that my wife wanted in the shower (a built in seat), he changed the arrangement of the shower around without any additional charge. He screened the work area off from the rest of the house to prevent dust from migrating everywhere, but when it did leak out, he promptly cleaned everything up on a daily basis. He was true to his estimate for labor, and helped keep the price down for supplies and material by finding similar items cheaper through his outlets, if possible.
Description of Work: Valentine completely stripped out our bathroom, built a new enclosed shower, tiled the walls and floor inside and outside of the shower, demolished the old stucco ceiling, helped choose and install the new lighting fixtures, and rewired the whole room. Valentine allowed us to pick out and purchase the tiles, fixtures (both electrical and plumbing), at a store of our choice. When he could find similar items at a cheaper price, he let us know, and picked up both the items he had an outlet for, and some of the things we found, when we were running short during the installation. He took the time to explain the whole process, and we felt as if we had control the entire time. A couple of years ago, he rebuilt our entire kitchen, and put the same amount of effort in both projects. He is completely trustworthy, and either he or a co-worker was alone in our house during the day when we were at work for over a month while the kitchen was being gutted and rebuilt, and the same for the bathroom. We have no connection with Valentine other than through his work, but we have known him for about 5 years now, and have seen him frequently, since we have recommended him to friends and neighbors. We have never heard one negative thing about him in all the time that we've known him. 1V&V is licensed, and they provide professional work at a very competitive price. We had our kitchen estimated by a neighborhood fixed remodeling shop and 1V&V beat them soundly in their pricing.

I hired Valentin not only because his proposal was competitive but also because he remodeled my neighbor?s two bathrooms and did high quality work for them. I was converting 1.5 baths to two full bathrooms which involved moving walls and significant changes to the plumbing. After I hired Valentin, the scope of the work changed and he did not try to gouge me but instead offered a fair price for the additional work (mainly consisting of adding wainscoting and crown molding in several rooms). Valentin does the vast majority of the work himself which is both good and bad. If he is unable to work (due to an illness for example which delayed my project a couple of weeks) he may not use sub-contractors to keep the project moving forward. He wants to take full responsibility for the work which is why he is reticent to use sub-contractors and overall that is the right approach. Valentin is very detail-oriented and does high quality work for a fair price so I do highly recommend him for any remodeling project big or small.
