I took my boyfriend's little sister (who is 11) to Joseph Charles for her birthday. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and ask to wait for our stylists. Her stylist came to greet her and I was told I could follow them. I walked back and immediately felt unwelcomed by the fact that my stylist told me I was half an hour late, which I was not.After several ppl assured her I was on time, we finally began with our pedicures.. There was one more stylist in the pedicure room at the same time as us and more stylists coming in and out. They began discussing their plans for the week instead of focusing on us. The activity they were discussing was entirely inappropriate in front of customers let alone an 11 year old. One of the stylists even cursed! After they finished our soak and scrub, my stylist seemed very put out by the fact that I wanted colored polish. I picked out a colored which she proceeded to cover my entire foot with. Now I understand these girls are learning but there was no excuse for the way she painted my toenails. It was terrible! The manicures we were also scheduled for were a joke, the polish was so sloppily done and she completely dissed my nails in cuticle oil, all the while letting me know that she uses the companies product as lip balm all the time. I was glad to see her instructor walk in to do the "sign off" saying she'd inspected their work and found it satisfactory. The only problem was she NEVER EVEN GLANCED AT IT! I walked to the front of the salon fuming mad but trying not to upset the birthday girl. I paid and we left. I immediately when home and removed the polish and had to redo everything. I gave myself a few days to calm down and think rationally before I called the director, she apologized but refused to refund my money, offering a replacement service instead. This upset me even more because I emphasized repeatedly that I had no interest in coming back to the school ever. I couldn't even trust them to correctly paint my toenails let alone any other service they have to offer. She told me she would call the owners and get back to me the next day. I have not heard from her since. I will never go back even if its free!

"First the service listed is less then half the amount listed. We are only about $26 for a manicure and pedicure. It is unfortunate that this client had this experience. We work tirelessly to try to teach our students proper customer service. That being said, I realize there is still work to do and will take note from this experience to coach then up. Also, it will be discussed with staff about properly signing off on a service. I assume since it's hard to check the final results of a manicure or pedicure (other than the polish job) the staff member just checked off that it was done (and not how well it was done). That will be addressed as well. Lastly, we don't make it a policy to refund money, but prefer to give complimentary services in exchange. Our reasons for this are many, but number one is that you can't return a service that has already been provided. Also, from past experiences with our other location we get people that constantly abuse this and come into different service providers at the school and continue to get free services by complaining. That's not to say there are not legitimate complaints, but often times we end up with the same clients getting free services over and over again when both staff and students refute the story from the customer. I would hope for the opportunity to still provide this customer with a complimentary service to make up for this experience. I know these things do happen and would like them to know it's the exception not the norm."
