Dr. Penrod was very attentive and explained the options - no high pressure as I have experienced there before. I chose to have her perform the repair. When I picked up the dog, Dr. Penrod went over what had been done and told me to see our vet withing 2 days to check the integrity of the stitches and for possible infection. She provided a very detailed description of the surgery for my vet and reviewed follow-up care. The only negative was the one of the staff placed us in an exam room, checked the dog's vitals and forgot about us for more than 45 minutes. It was a very busy night and from the discussions I was aware that they were dealing with life- threatening problems. My dog had stopped bleeding and was acting fine so I didn't complain. According to the staff, it was Dr. Penrod that had inquired about my dog and brought their attention to the fact we were still waiting. My vet followed up and the dog is doing great -no complications. The Emergency Center serves a very important purpose and provides competent care for animals who become ill/injured outside of most veterinarians normal business hours. Given the high prices that many local vets are charging for their services, the costs at the Emergency Center are not that high. The Center provides relief to those local vets that, in the past, have sacrificed many off hours to their clients in need.

They're nice to use and close by for emergencies. I thought the price was a little high though.

Our 16 yr. old dog suffered a prolonged Grand Mal Seizure. The time to put her to sleep had arrived. Since it was 1am and our regular vet would not be available, we took her to the Animal Emergency Center. We did call ahead and explained the problem. The vet tech was professional and sympathetic. Once there, the staff took our dog and prepared a catheter for the injection. They have a specal room specifically designed for euthanasia and we were placed on that room. The staff was VERY compassionate about the situtation. The staff fully explained what would happen both during and after the administration of the drugs. The vet brought our dog in to us in a state of deep sleep, and gave us as much time as we needed to say our goodbyes. Since we had expected this situation, we were ready right then. The Vet gave the injection, and our little furry kid slipped away. After a few moments, they took her to the back area, and placed her in a cardbaord coffin so we could take to the the pet creamatory ourselves.

I cannot say enough how professional, accomodating, kind, and compassionate these people were. They were FAR more caring than our regular vet who had put down our previous pets.

While we were there, we had the opportunity to watch the staff interact with other pet owners (at 1 am!) They were uniformly professional and effective. I would STRONGLY recommend this service if your pet needs assistance after normal business hours.
