The Roto-Rooter plumber, Matt, came out and snaked the pipe. He fixed a mistake that a plumber from a different plumbing company made about a year ago. He was upfront about the problem and straight forward about what he could do. He took the time to explain things and made recommendations to prevent the pipe from clogging again. In about an hour the problem was solved. He even tightened some pipes that were unrelated to the original problem that he saw were leaking and took a look at another problem that I had in my bathroom sink. His service was great, it was at a reasonable price, and I will definitely use him again, if needed.

Roto-Rooter would come out and snake the pipes 100 feet out. They would say that there was a bend in the pipe and couldn't get any further. Every other time they said it was clear out to there. Everything was fine for another two years and then the same thing would happen. We would call Roto-Rooter again. Then it would go for another two years. Before last Christmas, my drains started backing up again. Because they gave a warranty, I would always just have them come back out. They came out and ran the snake through again. They said that for another $200 they could blast it out with a high powered hose. He said that they could also run a camera through. That sounds like a good idea for me for only $200 more. At 8 in the morning, there was a guy who was ready to blast the pipes. I came back in the house and went about my business.  Later, he knocked on the door and said that he was finished and couldn't do anything. Now, he says I owe him $400. He said that It was a charge of $200 an hour. He said he would call his boss. It turned out that all these young kids are just trainees. The boss is the only licensed plumber that the company employs.
He came out and was real friendly. He talked and talked to me. He told me that I needed to repair the line because it was 30 years old. I have cast iron pipes and he said that after thirty years they start to crumble. He convinced me that the lines needed to be repaired. They would have to dig up my yard. He dug up my trees that gave me privacy. He said that maybe they could get by with digging up half of one. He makes me sign this contract for nearly $18,000 to dig up my front yard. The trench was four feet deep. He would dig up the pipes and replace them with plastic ones. He was stuffing the contract up my nose. I kept thinking about where I was going to get the money. I thought at the last minute that I better put in on my credit card. I had to pay half up front and the rest after it was complete.
The next morning, my driveway was full of all the equipment. He said that they were going to have to dig up all of my plants. I said "NO!" I begged him to only take the one out. He said he would do the best that he could. I had a doctor's appointment that day. I gave him instructions to only tear out the one. I left. I came back at about three in the afternoon. He had dug up all of the palms. There was a four feet deep by three feet wide trench almost all the way to road. He said that they were going to have to pull up the sod. He said that they would put in on a tarp and water it everyday. I look and it was all upside down with the roots exposed. When I pulled it, he called me over and said that he ran into a big concrete box. He said that he couldn't dig through it and couldn't go any further. I found out that it was an old sess-pool. I looked for the crushed pipe and I didn't see any pieces anywhere.  I told him that I wasn't paying $18,000 until I saw the crushed pipe. He turned white as a ghost. I told him that I didn't want a new pipe. He let me know that his boss is on his way. He called over for his guys. They packed up everything and left. The boss came and had all of the paperwork in his hand. He was so shaky. He said that he was going to come back with his boss the next day.
By then, my son had sent over his friend that owned a Handy-man business. I found a plumber on Angie's list who came out and looked at it. He sent his snake is backwards through the clean-out by the street. Why didn't Roto-Rooter do that too? He came out with all kinds of things. He then sent his camera in and it was clean all the way to the bend. If the pipes were crushed, he wouldn't have been able to do that. He told me that my problem was the City's problem. I called them and they sent men out right away. They were fully equipped. They found a great big blockage and cleared it out. I told them my Roto-rooter problem. They said that people should never call them. They should always call the city first.
Roto-rooter came the next morning. You could tell the guy that sold me everything was nervous. The big boss told me that he could refund my money and call it a day. I had already cancelled my credit card. When they came in the morning, my car was parked behind their digger. They were not to happy about that. I told them that they could have it after they filled in all of my holes and replaced my trees. They told me that they were not in the tree planting business. I told them that they needed to replace my sod. They told me that it was just crabgrass. I paid a lot of money for that grass and it was not crabgrass. They drove away and that's the way they left me.

Our toilets were clogged and things were coming up from the toilets and the tubs (ew!) so we called Roto Rooter to come out.  I was about 4 p.m. when we called and they came at about 6 p.m.  The man that came was very nice, although he said that he was supposed to go home but came because he wanted the overtime.  He came in the house and looked at the problem and estimated it would cost $255!  That sounded expensive, but we were desperate so we agreed to the price.  He also mentioned that we should consider jetting the lines which would cost an additional $400, but we decided not to.  We have a leech field instead of a sewer, so he snaked the line from outside the house.  After about 1/2 hour of snaking, he pulled everything out and said things were fine.  I was a little worried because he didn't have us flush the toilets or run the showers to check.  The water went down slowly, so I thought that's how it was supposed to be.

Imagine my surprise when we got up the next morning and the toilets backed up again!  I called Roto Rooter back (no local people, they're in Chicago) and they were immediately helpful and said they'd send somebody out.  A different man came, and said that he would have to charge us $255 again because it's not guaranteed!  The man that came yesterday said nothing about it not being guaranteed, but the only way to have a guarantee is if you pay at least $160 more for them to call a camera tech to send a camera down the line!  My husband was very angry and after the technician call his boss, they agreed that he could give us 30 minutes to try and snake it again, but we would have to sign a waiver that if the pipes were damaged, it wasn't their fault!  Anyway, he snaked it and had us run the showers and flush the toilets to check them (which was something the previous technician didn't ask us to do) before leaving.

Although I really appreciated the tech, Michael, that came today.  I was very frustrated by their lack of responsibility in doing a good job and guaranteeing their work!  Although Roto Rooter is very convenient, I doubt that I will call them again.

Arrived promptly at scheduled time.  Assessed the situation and brought router to clean out pipe.  Fed snake into pipe about 30 feet and found blockage. Put on cutter head and cut through blockage and continue to feed snake to about 50 feet of snake inside. This would have taken the snake to the main sewer pipe.

Blockage was cleared completely.  Nothing different that would be done.

Called at 8:30 am, they said they would have some here by 10 am.  The job was completed by 9:40 am.  The guy was friendly and fast.  I realized they cost more than most companies, but was okay with it because of the fast service.  The 157.00 was with the coupon you had Angie's list.  Mahalo for that.~Maria Burns

My mother in law panicked when the connection from the waterline for the ice maker came loose from the refridgerator. When she tried to turn off the water at the valve, it would not shut off. She then called roto rooter to replace the valve. Instead of diagnosing the problem by looking at it, the "so called plumber Joe" listened to my mother in laws opinion of what she thought was wrong. Now, you must understand something. A "DUCK" has a better command of household repairs than my Mother in Law! For "Joe" to just go by her opinion is ameture at best. So instead of changing out the valve, Joe cuts the 1/4" waterline near the refridgerator, splices another 12' to it and hooks it up to the refridgerator. This takes all of 35 minutes. He then proceeds to charge my Mother in Law $259.00! Unwitingly she pays the $ 259.00. When I found out what had happened I was livid. I asked," why did he cut the line"? My Mother in law said, "Joe told her it was crimped." So I asked her, "where is the bad section he cut out?" She tells me,"he bent it up and took it with him." I called what appeared to be a local number and ended up getting a call center in Chicago. I was Told I would get a call from the in no more than 30 minuetes. 25 hours later I get a call back from them. After talking to a guy from their office In Honolulu he agrees to send someone out to do the job right. The fallowing day when I came home from work I was told that "Joe" would have to charge my Mother in Law to do the work! My Uncle who is a plumbing contactor in California and he told me that for the work Joe did should have cost no more than $130.00. Steer clear of Roto Rooter in Honolulu!

He had to dig around the valve to cut out the old valve (round handle type) and replace with new lever valve. He used his own digger tool instead of charging me for the rental of a roto rooter digger. Replaced the cement box/cover with a circular green box/cover and made sure lever handle could turn in the new hole. Made sure the new box/cover was at the appropriate level with the lawn.
