I opted not to have vents installed.
Description of Work: After making calls to several contractors regarding installation of vents in my roof, Findlay was one of the few that returned my call within a timely manner. I also received constructive advice, rather than a sales pitch.

Findlay Roofing contracted to examine my parents roof and let us know any repairs necessary, due to a supposed leak/stain on the family room ceiling. The employee came when stated, which was great as I had to coordinate my schedule to be there to facilitate the interaction. He examined the roof and chimney, found that the chimney cap needed replacing, as well as a few nails which had popped, and completed the work in a timely fashion. The company provided excellent communication and service with a high level of professionalism. We would certainly use them again for roofing/chimney needs.

Very organized; very pleasant. This was the easiest job that I have ever had done on my home. From the administrative staff to the roofing specialists that installed my roof. The job was completed in less than 2 days on the date promised. Everything was cleaned up nicely upon completion. This is the best company to work with!!

The initial contact went very well. We had already received the Estimate from our insurance company and had it in hand at the time of our contact with Findlay Renovations. As I stated before, they were prompt in getting out to take a look and give us a quote. However, the quote read simply" We will perform all work contained in the Estimate at the price quoted in the Estimate." Well, we accepted that as their offer and told them to go ahead with the work. A few days later, a roofing crew showed up. They did not seem to really know what work precisely they were doing and did not have materials to make the repairs. So, they took a look around and then left to go to Home Depot to purchase materials. A short time later, they returned and began work. They "finished" the repairs the same day and left. A short time later that evening,we were able to go out and take a look at the work they had performed and found several problems. They had not used matching shingles where the portion of the roof that had been crushed was repaired. there was shoddy workmanship where the soffit and fascia repair was performed. instead of replacing the damaged pieces, they were simply nailed back in place. The damaged rafters were simply patched with a small piece of wood nailed to them. We had also requested an estimate to replace the glass in an unusual fixed pane window above the bed in the master bedroom. When we were back in contact with Jason who was in charge of our job, to get information and pricing, he kept referring to replacing a sash window in the living room, despite the fact that we had contacted him in writing twice previously about this particular window. We contacted Findlay the next day and told them that we were discontinuing all work immediately. At this point, we began researching here on Angie's List to find a reliable contractor to come out and finish our job.
Description of Work: *Notice* This review is for the Renovations side of Findlay, aka Findlay Renovations.* We had previously used Findlay Roofing three years ago for a complete roofing job, and they did a beautiful and professional job. Since we had used Findlay previously and were extremely happy with their work, we decided to contact them to do roof and interior repairs after some storm damage. Sadly, their renovations side is less than quality. We had damage to our roof after the top of a tree broke off and landed on our roof during a storm last June. We contacted Findlay, and they were prompt in coming out to take a look and give us a quote. Please see below for more details.

Estimator was professional and answered my follow-up calls satisfactorily. The total price was competitive. The installation crew and foreman were hard-working and professional. The entire job was finished in one day. I was very pleased with the finished product. I was given the option of saving 2% of the cost by paying cash. This company does not consider a personal check cash. I had to go to my bank to get actual cash and meet the roofing company representative there to make payment. Unfortunately, there was a mixup and the rep did not arrive on time. Long story short, I was given a $100 discount for my troubles involving the payment. While I was not pleased that the payment procedure did not go as planned, I appreciate the company's $100 offer to mitigate my inconvenience. I would use this company again because to date, I am very satisfied with my insulation installation and shingle replacement.

This was a "text book" example of how a home improvement/contractor experience should go! I am really not exaggerating, we had a 100% perfect project with Findlay from the very first point of contact until the very last. Stop researching people...this is the roofer to call, just do it. Roof, Roof! Our experience started out wonderfully with an email I sent to Findlay asking for some pretty quick cost estimating work. Within an hour I had an email response from Steve Findlay himself and he could not have been more helpful. The quality of communication continued through the signing of the contract and the scheduling of the work. The materials were all delivered on time and despite all the rain this season, our scheduled install date remained intact. On the day of the install a "team", and I stress TEAM, of professional gentlemen arrived. They were all highly trained at doing roofing work and were not simply laborers who might have been painting the day before. Each and every team member was skilled at his craft and they made short work on demo and re-install of a complete roofing system. They were done by mid-day and once they cleaned up there was no sign that they had even been there...other then the awesome new roof. Follow up for payment was very easy and I was able to deal with it over the phone. I HIGHLY recommend this company and will not only pass their name along to friends and colleagues but I will certainly call on them for all future roofing needs.

Started out just asking for a quote for a new roof. That seemed to go great and they were very professional and kind when they came out to give us the quote. I heard about Findlay on WSB Radio from Dave Baker. Dave mentioned that you want a roofer that comes out, gets on your roof and takes pictures of all areas of concern and exactly what they will do if/when they replace your roof. Dave Baker then recommended Findlay and said it was his favorite roofer. I was surprised when Findlay came out that they said they do the measurements by satellite, so he didn't even get on our roof and absolutely NO pictures were taken or shown to me. They said that the quote would take a day or two to receive. Because of some e-mail problems that the company had, it seriously took two weeks to receive my quote. I had to ask 3 or 4 times and felt like they didn't even want my service. His apology was to take $200 off the $7,800 quote.

They did an excellent job. It was all top-notch, from the guy that came up and did the estimate to the project manager to the employees. At one point, I even wanted to add the trim around the garage door, and they gave me some options and they did it that same day. So, they're flexible with their scope of work. They'll be the one I'll consider first if I would be needing any siding or roofing work in the future.

The tech was right on time, actually about 10 minutes early. He was polite, but not very professional in appearance or attitude. He looked at the places I showed him on our ceiling where the leaks showed up, then he climbed around in the attic for awhile. When he came out he stated he had spotted the problem locations and it looked like a very simple repair for one of them (a missing nail or something like that) but that the other might be a chimney flashing issue which would start at $700+. He said he'd have to get on the roof to find out. He went outside, but came right back and said he's just looked at the roof from the ground and saw a couple of nail pops that were probably the problem. I felt like it would have been more thorough to actually get up on the roof and look up close. I got the impression that both the roof issues were really minor, easy fixes and that the estimate he gave me was pretty much a made-up number he pulled out of his hat based on the inconvenience of showing up with a hammer and a long ladder. He also could not give me a definite estimate of when the work would be completed.

The repair they made did not hold. I had to have them back out to redo. I repainted my ceiling after it was fixed the first time. There were stains again due to the repair not being done correctly. There was no offer of covering the repainting that was needed.

Unfortunately – repairs are just that – repairs. There is no guarantee we’ll get it right the first time because water can travel in many directions before it ever shows as a leak in a ceiling. Our repair however – is of course under warranty!!! And we’ll continue to work on it until it’s solved the problem. We always recommend homeowners wait at least two good rains to make sure the repair worked before making any repairs to the interior.

I made an initial call to the company on Monday, June 24 to ask to have someone come to my house and provide a quote to replace the roof. The person that answered said the salesperson for my area was on vacation, a cruise, so he would call me the following week upon his return. While I found it very odd that there was no backup plan to cover a persons vacation, I decided to still consider this company given it's overall reputation. The following week, I received a voice mail from the sales person on Wednesday, July 3rd stating it would be the following week before he could come to my house. I did not receive another call from the salesperson until Thursday, July 18th. When I answered, he identified himself and asked if I still needed a quote for roof replacement. I said, 'No', as too much time had lapsed and I had already selected another company.

After a storm came through my area and damaged my roof, I went straight to Angie's list to find a reliable company to service my home. After looking at reviews, I settled on Findlay roofing. At the time they had 124 reviews and an A rating. I called to make an appointment for them to come an give me an estimate on my roof. I called on 7/2/13 and was given an appointment for 7/8/13. The scheduler asked if I was going to be there for the appointment at 3:00 and I told him that I was going to take off from work to be there for the appointment time. Last question was how did you hear about us and my reply was Angie's List. On the day of the appointment, I was home waiting for Findlay roofing to come and give me an estimate on my roof. After 1 pm, I noticed I had a missed call and message on my phone. The message was from Tom at Findlay roofing. He said that they were "swamped" and could not meet my appoint time so they went ahead and rescheduled me for the next day. Well that of course was not going to work for me as I had to work to maybe afford to pay for the new roof. I called up Findlay roofing to speak with someone about my recent change in appointments. Again I told home that I had taken off from work to meet with them. The only response I received was that we are not able to meet your appointment time. I told him to go ahead and cancel my appointment because their rescheduling would not work for me. The response was "ok". Not once during the message or my phone call to them afterwards did I hear "sorry" or "I apologize for the inconvenience". Needless to say, I do not plan for Findlay to do any work on my home in the future. If they cannot even keep an appointment for a estimate, how can I expected the actual installation of the roof to go.

In August, 2012 I contacted Findlay Roofing based on recommendations from Angie?s List, as well as from homeowners in my subdivision. A representative came out and gave me a quote. I was not ready to move forward at that time. On June 6, 2013 I again contacted the sales rep (Tony Wyss) and asked that he ?refresh? the quote. Tony responded with a new quote on June 12 and we arranged for him to stop by the house so we could go over the figures and particulars. Tony met me on June 18. I signed the contract and Tony indicated that someone would be contacting me for scheduling. After not hearing from anyone in nearly a week, I again emailed Tony (June 24). He did not respond. On June 25, I placed a call to Findlay. I spoke with a nice lady in scheduling and she indicated that they were working about 3 to 4 weeks out (Tony had estimated about 2 -3 weeks). I explained that, in preparation for the new roof, I?d had soffit and fascia replaced and, as a result, had pulled all the old gutters. My basement had already flooded twice without the gutters and I at least needed something temporary on the front (to prevent flooding) until the new roof could be completed. I was transferred to Marcella who told me that they could do a partial install. She indicated that Friday, June 28 was available and that that installer would call when he was on his way. I arranged to be home all day Friday. At 2:00 pm, I still had not been contacted. I called Findlay and spoke with (Cody?). He assured me that I was on the schedule and that he was trying to get in touch with the installer so I could get a better idea of time frame. At 4:00 pm, Marcella phoned and told me that the installer would not be coming. She would ?try? to get the installer to arrange for Saturday as a ?special favor? (as they don?t work on Saturday?s), but could not guarantee. The best she could do is promise for Monday, wherein I would have to, once again, take off work. All that were offered were apologies. I asked for the entire job to be cancelled and that an email confirming the cancellation be sent. The email said ?I?m sorry we were not able to accommodate you in the manner you expected.? The manner that I expected? ? My expectation was simply that they would keep their promises, or at the very least, communicate with me in a timely manner. Now I?m forced to start from scratch, as I have little faith in this company honoring its commitments. This has been a very disappointing experience with Findlay Roofing.

Due to the type of work we perform, we just as other contractors, are subject to all kinds of obstacles that can change our schedule on an hourly basis. Things such as weather, traffic, hidden damage, etc… all affect our work. We do our best to accommodate homeowners and their time frames – but we never promise that something will happen on a certain day or time. There are too many variables. However, because of this - we also never require a homeowner be there when we complete the work! If someone would like to be there, we certainly appreciate that and do our best to stay on schedule.

We initially placed a call late on a Friday evening and didn't expect a return call for a couple of days. In less than 15 minutes, Cody Radtke contacted us to find out the details of what we needed an estimate for. He scheduled an appointment for following week to look at our issues. Our house is older and the roof had begun to leak in our daughter's bedroom. He came out, in the rain, and checked our roof (not just a ground visual inspection either!) He told us that while the shingles on the roof were still good, they had been installed incorrectly, thus causing the leaks. He said a repair would only be good for a little while and wouldn't carry a full warranty. He even sent pictures of our roof to other installers who all agreed - - never seen one installed that way before and the best way to fix the issue was to start over with new roof. There was no pressure sales pitch, just the straightforward facts. We were having other work done on our house and waited almost a month to call back with color selection and to schedule a date for install. Cody met us at the warehouse to show us the attic fans and other materials that would be used. We set up our appointment for 2 weeks due to our schedule. The crew showed up a little before their appointed time and got right to work. For those of you who have had a roof replaced, six men on a roof scraping off shingles doesn't take very long!! In the course of less than 6 hours they had old roofing off, new plywood down, ridge vent replaced, new shingles on and placed attic fans for us to wire in at a later date. They were very professional in their prep work to make less debris to clean up afterwards. Cody called us the next day to check if we were happy with the roof and we had mentioned about a stray nail found when the roofing trailer had been removed. He mentioned talking with the crews about double checking under the trailers as well. We will definitely use them if we ever have more roofing needs and recommended them to neighbors. Thanks for a job well done! Everyone from Cody to the crew to the office staff were very professional and accommodating.

Findlay roofing did an amazing job for us and went out of their way to provide us superior service. They monitored their website on a Sunday, and worked us into a busy schedule very quickly. I cannot say enough about how impressed I was with Findley roofing and the team of people that worked on my house. All employed by Findley (no day laborers), superintendent on site at all times. Prompt, courteous, clean- truly a delight to work with. As a single female I have to be so careful about who I hire both from a safety perspective as well as an honesty perspective- sad to say but it is true. I received quotes that ranged anywhere from 13,000 to 40,000. Jason Nichols came out here, walked the property with me and discussed honestly what I needed and what I really didn't need. He had wonderful suggestions, helped me thru the maze of colors and textures and had a sense of humor to boot. I know a lot of people feel that going with a 'big company' means paying more but honestly, their pricing was totally in line with smaller organizations but their warrantees and products were superior. You truly get what you pay for an in this case even more. I put lifetime shingles on my roof and that is my only regret- I won't get to use them again! Feel free to come and look at my roof anytime- it is amazing and makes me smile everyday.

It went ok, this work was subcontracted out by Findlay and the follow through and closeout on all the tasks took much longer than it should have and dragged the project out to over a month to reach final completion. The final quality of work of work was good, and we would use Findlay again, but we would request different subcontractors/crew. Note, the office team was great and were very good to work with but the subcontractors skipped items and were called back several times.

They showed up on time and were professional, but I had to call them back several times because the leaks persisted. The roof vents still leak, but are much better. However, they were never able to resolve the leak next to the chimney, whch is worse than ever. Edit: 6/12/2013 I contacted them regarding this issue and they sent out a Quality Control crew for another look. They found and corrected a couple issues so I'm waiting for the next rain to see if this is finally resolved. Findlay Roofing did not have to do this since I was technically out of the warranty period, but it shows that they really do stand behind their work and I certainly appreciate the follow up!
