Brandon Transfer handled the pickup of furniture and packed boxes from my 10x10 storage unit. I was charged $350 in addition to the moving transportation cost supposedly for "local pickup". The reason given was that the shipment needed to be stored until a larger truck going north was available. The shipment was NOT stored. The shipment arrived in 3 day, 1 day BEFORE I arrived home, in what appeared to be the same small truck in which it was originally loaded. I was also charged an additional $66.92 for ‘special handling’ for the piano.
The piano arrived damaged in several places; the bench being so damaged it had to be removed from my home for repairs. ‘Special handling’, indeed! Every box arrived with crushed corners and sides. Several of the boxes contained fragile vintage and antique items, all of which had been triple wrapped in new packing paper and bubble wrap and packed in new heavy duty boxes. For such a small shipment, the damages were beyond excessive. Five vintage items were destroyed beyond repair with a replacement cost of $509.
After reporting the damages to Brandon, I was referred to the main office of Allied and they sent an inspector. After examining all of the antique and vintage items that had arrived safely due to my expert packing, it was clear to Allied’s own inspector that the five items had been destroyed during shipment by mishandling in transit. Allied refused to reimburse me even though I had paid for extra insurance. The two Allied representatives I spoke with on the phone after receiving the claim denial were extremely rude.
The only reason the review is D and not F is that the inspector did a very good job with the repairs and the moving men were very nice and prompt. I would never use Allied again nor would I recommend them to anyone!
"We did a local pick up for the client, because her items were in a mini storage. It is standard procedure to pick up items in a mini storage locally because Tractor Trailers have issues getting in and out of them thus incurring unexpected shuttle charges for the customer. Our driver Charles picked up this shipment on October 16, 2015. Her items were picked up from us by a Fox and Ginn driver out of Bangor, Maine on October 19th. He did indeed drive a straight truck which is VERY RARE in the industry driving interstate. When this shipment was booked there was no way to know that it would be picked up by a straight truck. The Fox & Ginn driver did not take any exceptions to the shipment which means that NO damage occurred while it was in our possession. The client claims that Allied did not pay her claim but in fact over $1600.00 dollars was paid out in repairs. The only items that were not covered were items that she packed herself. None of that claim that Allied settled was charged back to Brandon Transfer, therefore her claim is against Allied, specifically Fox and Ginn Movers."
"Thank you. I am glad that Cassius was able to take care of the issues that needed attention. Thank you for using Brandon Transfer & Storage! [Member Information Removed]: We drove back over to the other coast to take care of the items that the client said were not to his satisfaction. He changed our grade to an A.... then a few days later he changed it back to a C. We went out of our way, driving over 400 miles round trip to take care of a couple issues to make him happy."
