Another example of a billing nightmare was an additional "facility charge" for use of their surgical center. They claimed to have proof that they would mail to me. After a couple of weeks, I called when no proof arrived in the mail. I called their Billing Department to inquire about the missing proof. They had no explanation but stated that they would mail it again. No proof ever arrived in the mail. I eventually became tired of the back-and-forth and paid the charge to be rid of the issue.
My procedure is normally a routine one. However, my outcome was subpar and clearly problematic. The procedure caused a separate ocular problem that had to be addressed by another eye specialist at a different facility.
I would not recommend this provider. There are many better alternatives.
"We appreciate feedback about patient experiences and do our best to keep patients happy and informed. It is extremely important for us to address patient concerns immediately, especially of a clinical nature, and we ask patients to report any issues as part of their post-operative instructions. In this instance, postoperative clinical issues were never reported to us. After many attempts to follow-up personally, we remain unaware of any clinical issues as stated in the review. With regard to the disputed facility charge, our billing department confirms individual co-pay information and benefits with a patient's insurance company prior to any procedure as a courtesy to patients. There is always a facility fee for any outpatient procedure performed within our licensed surgery center. In this instance, the insurance company quoted an incorrect co-pay benefit for outpatient surgery amounting to a $30 difference from their initial quote. Insurance benefits are specific to each policy holder, and we have no control over quoted benefits; this was an error from the insurance company. The error in the artificial tears billing was our fault and we do apologize. We work hard to satisfy our patients and sorry we did not live up to this patient's expectations. From our other satisfaction surveys and evaluations we can say unequivocally this is not a typical patient experience. We take these complaints seriously and will work to do even better."
