TONY B.
Jun 2008
I was referred to Yard Works by my fertilizer lawn provided, someone I have used for years and trusted. I called and they sent a representative by the next day named Eddie. I needed sod in two areas, 1. 5X75 sq. ft. on the North side of my house and 2. 5X25 sq. ft. on the South side. He wrote me a estimate, I thought it was high and asked him if he would also do a sprinkler walk through, cleaning heads and etc. which he valued at $75.00 and he said OK. He was extremely nice and accommodating and I felt confident the job would be satisfactory since he boasted about how good he work was. In about a week the sod truck showed up and install sod on the North side, before I knew it they were gone and did not do the South side which had been marked also. I called the owner David Baxley to tell him the problem and he had the sod truck come back out, however this time it was not a crew of three but one man with a rake. As he put the sod down it was obvious that there was very little dirt attached to the grass, like a carpet without padding. I called David and he said he would have Eddie stop by to check it out. Eddie called me and said he looked at it and it looked good. The problem was he looked at the wrong side, the North side which was fine. When I asked about the walk through, he said it looks like your sprinklers are working fine and he did not need to do it, not part of my deal but I wanted the South side fixed and forgot it. Meanwhile I called the owner David and explained and he asked me to give it 30 days to see if it is any better. I said OK. One day when I went outside through the lawn exit where the problem was and stepped off the pad into the sod area I twisted my ankle because there was grass without any foundation. I called David again and asked him to come look at this problem, which he did. We both agreed the grass was green. However, he said since this was the area where I had the pipe installed the ground had sunk. I didn't think so but we could of debated this all day, it did not change, the grass area was exactly the same from the day it was installed to the day he came out. I ask him to install new sod, he said no that I could get some sand and rake it in and eventually it would raise the sod, then he said, "fix it your self", not my problem. I explained I did not have a rake or the means to get the sand and that if it had of been dome correctly the first time we would not has this problem. I ask him to put down the sand since he guaranteed customer satisfaction and he said he would have Eddie fix it, that's all I wanted. After a few days Eddie never showed up and I called about that and David said well he change his mind and would need to charge me. Little did he know, if he had of taking care of my friends good customer who referred him regardless of the fault, I would have given them a bonus anyway but instead, I feel taken and very disappointed. Here lies the problem with referrals from friends. I should of used Angie's List.
