First off I would like to say that this review is as legit as it gets. My email is
[email protected]. So we sign the contract, pick out the colors and all that and off we go. They started out like a house of fire. They came out, started the prep and got the hole dug real fast. Then they go through the footers and rebar process and all that. Then the plumbing, and more money is paid. And the then we hit the first snag with the plumbers. They show up and I want to make sure the total price of this whole electrical job is $1000" they quoted me. He takes some measurements, calls the shop and comes back and says "good news, its going to be $895 for everything outside of what you are paying Trendsetters". A couple weeks later I get a bill from Trendsetters, from Hawkins, saying I owed then another $702 for work they did. I blew a freakin gasket on Bobbi and on Hawkins. I didn't pay that bill and will get back to this in a minute. As we move on, the next issue happens with they go to lay the Flagstone Pavers for the pool deck. They put down the deck when I am at work and I come home that night, and in 3 minutes with a flashlight in the dark, I can tell the deck is all messed up. I tell Trendsetters no more pavers are to go down until they come out and meet me to discuss. The response I got was something along the lines of......well if we stop the process it is only going to delay your job as we have other jobs to do. So basically they were telling me if you want it done right, you will need to wait in line. I'm like whatever but you're not finishing the pool with decking looking like this. So a few days later their supervisor to the stars shows up. This guys name is Doug. At first glance nice guy, smoozer type. Runs around with his head cutoff. He should be a used car salesman. I can tell you what he is not, is a pool/project supervisor. This idiot and I don't say that loosely, is a total waste of space. I promise you he will do absolutely nothing for you as far as supervising your project. I supervised my whole project, he didn't check on anything...ever. Anyways this idiot shows up and he's out there eyeballing it, walking around, pretending to not see what would be blatantly obvious to Rays Charles. I say to his "you see what I see". He says to me "color looks good, pattern looks good, no I don't see anything wrong". I said "how's the slope of the deck look to you". He says "it looks good, it's not going to be perfect with pavers". Ok so I say sure I get it. Then I ask him a question. I said how much slope pitch should you have per foot with these pavers. He says "1/8 to 1/4 per foot". I said yep I agree with that. I said well your slope is not even remotely close. I had some spots sloping 3.5 inches on 3 feet. You would have literally rolled off the pool deck. So I can tell he's wanting none of this because it costs money for someone to redo a deck that is already laid down. So anyways, we agree to let his little laser be the judge on whos right and wrong. So he waddles out to the truck, grabs his laser and levels. Long story short he says well you're right it's off a minimum of 1.75 inches blah blah. If idiot would have been supervising the job, he would have seen that right. Don't you think, as a supervisor, he would be there the day they start laying such a huge deck, to make sure the slope looks right? I know I would as a project supervisor. Ok so of course this sets me back cause now I have to get back in the subcontractor rotation. No big deal, I want the job done right. So they come back and strip the whole deck off and start all over again. So they finish the pool deck, and before they start the secondary patio deck, I meet with superstar Doug. I tell him listen, the border of this deck is suppose to match the coping of the pool on three sides but not the fourth. He says yep I got it, made all my notes, will make sure its done. As you can guess, the secondary patio has all four sides of the deck bordered and not three. Not a huge issue, it ended up fine the wife liked it. But let me ask you this. If I said he, we don't like it, do you think they would have ripped up that whole deck to replace one border? I don't think so. So now most everything is done, they have all my money, because the pool guys make sure to get paid heavily upfront when things first get started. I owe them like $2800 bucks left out of $58,000. So the deck is done, everything is done but the steps and the interior finish. So they don't show up for a bit and they come out to do the steps. The steps are ten feet long, two steps up to the pool deck. Again they do the steps when I am not home, and I come home at night, in the dark, with my flashlight and once again see they are all jacked up. I send good ole Doug a text, with pictures the next morning and say hey the steps aren't right. The following is an actual text from Doug word for word after I tell him steps are messed up. "Sir I don't micro manage the subs we use good trade but are human they do sometimes make mistakes but the guys doing the brick are not final grade that has been scheduled the the crew doing it relax and and let me do my job you will be happy when pool is finished" I replied simply "fix the steps" His reply back "once I review the job I will make repairs if necessary again criticizing the guys doing the work that arent doing the final grade does not help let me do my stuff" My response back "just letting you know the steps aren't to my liking so unless corrected now its going to cause them more work.....makes no diff to me if they fix it now or later and when I spend 60 grand and you're nowhere to be found your **** right i'll be micromanaging the job for you" I had a couple issues with this text exchange. One - Doug is telling me to let him do his job and I would be happy with the finished product. If I had let Doug do his job, he would have finished the pool with a pool deck that would have been all messed up because he wasn't there to manage the job. So I am going to trust this guy to "do his job". As far as I could tell he didn't do any job at all. Second - why would I want them to finish the steps and stucco, then have to rip the steps out at the end, and redo the steps and stucco and set me back another 2-3-4 weeks? Fix it now and move on. So Doug comes out to inspect the steps as I am sure some brain child over at Trendsetters said "duh if we don't fix them now it's going to be more work later". So he gets there and I meet with him and I say "see anything wrong". He says the guys an idiot (sub), I have had issues with him before, and we'll fix it. The issue of the steps were the bottom step looked ok and the top step slopped down like an inch and a half on like 14 inches. It was so far off that when you looked at it from the side it was comical. I have no idea how anyone would install a step that looked like that. It was actually funny. You should see the pics, and I can show you if you want them. So they fix the steps again after I had to point it out. Who needs Doug, just manage your own job. So then the stucco guy comes out, who apparently is not the normal stucco guy cause hes out with surgery or something. So this guy comes out and stuccos the sides of the walls, around the steps etc. At this point, I am over this whole project. The stucco job was half a$$ at best. On one side of the pool, that separates the pool deck from the secondary patio deck (a step down of like 6-8 inches), the stucco was all messed up. Almost like he ran out of stucco or something. There were big wholes where I could stick a couple of fingers in the cracks. I ended up just taking some cement filler in tubes and filling the holes in like you would calk the inside of a house window. I guess what did I expect for 60 grand a decent job. So now the fun part if that wasn't fun enough. So everything is done but the interior of the pool. So like a couple weeks go by and not a peep, no updated nothing. I contact Doug (if I typed the whole text exchange here it would take me forever so this is the gist of it) and say hey you guys plan on finishing this job or what. You got all my money can we wrap this up. He then proceeded to tell me that I hadn't paid the $702 electrical bill or final payment so once that is done, they will "get me on the schedule". I about lost the top of my head. I proceeded to send a lengthy email to the owner (will address him in a minute) expressing my unhappiness, why didn't someone email me or call me for 2-3 weeks that they needed more money and why did I have to pay this $702 electric bill that was total bogus. So long story short, I basically conceded. I asked who do I need to pay, who needs more money, do I need to grease someones palms extra to finish the job. I got no response from the owner. but left $702 electric and the balance owed, in envelopes at the house. Doug came by, got the checks and they put me on the schedule. So basically if I hadn't reached out to say hey are we going to do the interior of the pool or what, they'd probably still be a hole in the ground. No communication at all. Tried to write a lot more of the disaster but cut me off nice review system limiting character.
