Very disappointed in any aspect of their professionalism and service. We have a new pool done by them and each time there was something to be fixed i needed to call at least 5 times, getting rescheduled a few times and no return calls. They might show up unexpected after month. It is stressful to deal with this kind of company.

They came in and did the job. They had the systems I wanted. It was a good deal, cheaper than most other people in the area.

I started out happy with them, but that quickly turned to sheer disappointment.  They were not reliable in terms of showing up at my house when they said they would show up.  They came to service the pool whenever it suited them and when the gate was locked, would not service the pool that week.  This happened at least 4-5 times.  I called their office numerous times and complained. Each time, they simply made excuses and never apologized!!  I found that very unprofessional.
The next problem I had with them was when the pool technician who comes to service the pool didn't service the pool because he claimed my pump was broken, that it was not primed and wouldn't work.  There was nothing wrong with the pump, other than the fact that it needed to have water added to it with the hose that was sitting right next to the pump.  I received a call from a service who wanted to come to my house and "fix" my pump, for a fee.  I fully expect that a pool service knows how to prime a pump.  It seemed that they were simply too lazy to service the pool and saw an easy out.
I would switch pool services but I am leaving the house soon and don't want to look for another service before I leave.
If you are looking for a pool service, don't use these guys!!!

Started out doing quality work. Don't know if the pool cleaning person changed but it started going downhill. Had them come out for a service call on spa. We were out of gas, our fault. They shut the system down and I made sure that the heater was turned off. Got the gas filled. Next time the came out the turned the heater on full blast and left it running for 4 days. Burned up almost 100 gallons of gas. Called our landlord to let them know the pool service left the gas on and needed to fill the tank.
The pool service told the landlord they didn't touch the heater. They just came out for a service call on the heater!!! After I pointed that out she called them back. Then they told her that every time they come over we were having wild parties and we were too drunk to know whether we turned off the heater. Funny thing. They come during the middle of the day and we usually aren't there AND we don't drink.
Do yourselves a favor and use someone else. This is Florida, there are lots of pool companies to choose from. Pick one with scruples.
Response from Sharper Image Pool Service, Inc

"Our service person never touched their heater, they only clean the pool. In addition, we never discussed the renters drinking habits or anything of the sort with their landlord. That statement is just rediculous to say the least. The renter / renters need to be shown how to operate the pool heater so they understand how to turn the heater on and off, other wise a heater can continue to turn on everyday automatically once the pump turns on in the morning. There is an automatic mode and a call for heat mode. The heater is obviously coming on automatically every morning and burning up an entire tank of fuel if the statement they made is correct on the four day heating issue. We assured the actual owner of the house that our service tech has no reason to come out and turn on their heater to heat their pool, four days in a row as the renters review says. We have canceled service on this pool prior to this review. We offer orientaions for renters or the owners which we would have been happy to come out and show them how to operate the heater or put it in the call for heat mode. We are sorry this happened to them, fuel is expensive and I understand their fustration."

The pool is in excellent condition. The only issue I have had with this company is that they have not sent me paper work I have requested.

Save yourself the disappointment.  I am house sitting: My friend contacted the company and they were supposed to call me to schedule an appointment.  One morning I get a phone call from the pool guy telling me he is on his way.  I had no clue what he was talking about so I figured it was miscommunication between my friend, the company and I?fine.  So, the pool cleaner and I schedule a day for him to come out (11/12).  He calls me on 11/12 and states he will be over in 1.5 hours.  2 hours later I call him just to get an update. When he answered the phone his response was ?oh I ran over?.  Then he tells me he still needs another 30 minutes at the location he is at.  After a few minutes we agreed that I would leave the patio open so that he can complete the job and would leave the paper work on the table.  Well he never came by and never called to say there was a problem or that he was not able to make it.
This company does not respect the time of their customers, nor do they even care that people take time off work for these types of
things.  There is a serious lack of professionalism!

My husband and I chose Sharper Image for our new pool construction after meeting their salesperson, Bob. We had a great experience with Bob. He was polite, professional and came to our house on evenings and weekends to help us plan our new pool design and answer our many questions. He also worked with us on provided a reasonable price that included additional add-ons to make our pool the best it could be for our small backyard. Sharper Image was fairly expedient in completing the pool and they made any issues right when they were brought to their attention. Kip, the project manager, was especially helpful keeping us abreast of the schedule and making himself available via phone calls and email 7 days a week morning and night. We are very happy with our pool and would definitely recommend Sharper Image to our friends in the future.

We researched several companies prior to making a decision. Our pool was over 30 years old. We wanted to do a complete and total make over. It took over a year of research and discussions to identify a company who we felt understood our ideas, and had the expertise to formulate and implanting them within our budget. This project was huge ,and without being there it is hard to describe. The level of expertise needed to complete project was beyond our imaginations. Challenges: (a) I changed the original plans literally in mid-stream. Although it required an addendum to the original proposal, it was fair and expected. (b)There was a small leak in one of the intake valves. It was immediately identified by a professional diver, and resolved. (c) I never had a pool so I was clueless on how to operate it. I was trained by the Sharper Image staff and they always returned my calls when I had a question. This was a very large and long awaited project for us, so I documented each stage with pictures Stage One: Emptying pool and preparing surfaces for what was to come. This included drilling new intake areas for fountains and replacing skimmer to accommodate new height of water level. Stage two: Digging ditches to accommodate huge amounts of pipes for water and electricity. Jack hammer all cement to accommodate fountains and new elevated patio. Tear down screen room. Stage Three: Build forms for fountains, swim out, skimmer and elevated deck/patio. Sink rebar, electric and water pipes for fountains and elevated deck/patio. Build forms for fountains, elevated deck/patio and stairs, Stage Five: Pour cement for fountains, stairs, swim out and elevated deck/patio area. Remove Forms. Prepare pool and fountains surfaces. Install tile. Stage Six: Prepare deck/patio to install Travatine stone. Prepare pool and install new surface. Install new Screen Room. Install heat pump. Test everything. Fill Pool. Stage Seven??.Enjoy the pool of our dreams !! I want to thank David, Kipp, Frank and all the wonderful staff at Sharper Image Pool Service. . Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Missed several appointments, dismantled plumbing and then left it leaking and not put back together properly. Was promised a set weekly schedule which was met only once. Office team explained we were further out than they had initially thought and the person on our route couldn't make it. Had some issues with our pool filter system. Tech came out and said he fixed the problem. Had to come out on three other occassions due to leaks and our back flush system had to be replaced when he was done with it. Finally discontinued service and tech threatened to come back and dismantle the system we have. Would never use them again.. way overpriced, unprofessional and extremely poor customer service from the office team.

I was satisfied with them. During the process the supervisor's responsiveness was very good when we contacted him. It was good initially, but not when the job was completed.

Overall they did what needed to be done, in a professional manner for the price they quoted which was competitive with other bids I had gotten. Their knoweldge of pools seemed superior to the other companies that bid on the project. Their worker rewired the time incorrectly which caused it to short out. The worker readily admitted the mistake and they replaced the whole timer free of charge even though the timer was probably over ten years old. The final outcome was my pool equipment has been repositioned and is in better shape than it was overall before the move. They relabeled all the valves and so it's easier for me to take care of the pool. I have no complaints with this company and would not hesitate to use them again.

These guys are just plain out scammers. Check out the Better Business Bureau. They have 4 complaints in the past 36 months. http://www.bbb.org/west-florida/business-reviews/swimming-pool-contractors-dealers-design/sharper-image-pool-service-and-repair-in-tampa-fl-6146499#complaint Sharper Image Pool Service was responsible for my weekly pool service at a rental home. During one of the visits, their tech was running late and arrived at the property at or near dark. When the service was completed, it was dark and he left the pool pump running without water running to it. It remained this way for at least two days before it was discovered. At this time the pump was ruined due to it overheating from running for two days with no water circulation. I contacted Randy about the situation. He told me he would send someone out to repair the pump. He called me two days later and told me the pump was too old to repair and that they had to replace the pump. He then told me that I owed him over $600 for labor and the new pump. I NEVER agreed to a new pump and the repairs were the responsibility of Sharper Image Pools since the damage was inflicted by their service tech. He stated the pump was old and it needed to be repaired. It was working fine prior to his tech allowing it to overheat and destroying it. The damage was caused by his service tech and then he tried to stick me with the bill for a new pump. He never called to tell me he was putting in a new pump. He never gave me a quote and he only brough it up after my renter canceled the monthly service. He never had anything to say about this until my renter canceled the weekly service due to Sharper Image illegally running her credit card. She was upset and canceled the service. I recently receive a call from a collection service because Sharper Image Pools has turned me over to a collection agency. They are trying to collect on damage they inflicted and repair that were not discussed or authorized. Are they kidding? You destroyed my pump and now you are trying to charge me and turn me over to a collection agency? Come on....
Response from Sharper Image Pool Service, Inc

"We at Sharper Image pools have an excellent reputation and long time valued customers. We pride ourselves in outstanding quality and customer service. We have always attempted to satisfy all our clients needs and if there is any discrepancy, we always try to resolve the issue amicably. We started pool service with the member on June 8th, 2007. We had a good relationship, he was happy with our service and we appreciated him as a good customer. In October of 2008 he called and said his pump was not working correctly. I (Randy Kottke) sent a mechanic to his pool and assess the problem. The pump was running dry like he said and the motor needed to be replaced. Upon further inspection, Christian (mechanic) found not only the motor size to be incorrect for proper circulation of the pool, but further damage to the pump which was caused by normal wear and tear. The pump and motor were 13 years old and well beyond its normal life span. (Motors have a typical life span of 3-7 years) Manufacturers extend a 1-3 year warranty on their pumps and motors. He and I agreed to replace the whole pump, clean out the pump box, and replumb his whole system due to the age, corrosion and deterioration, at a significantly reduced price, due to the allegations he has voiced. Upon completion of the work, several conversations were held with him over the course of 7 weeks, where he implied he would pay, but did not have the funds available to make restitution. After 60 days of balance due, Sharper Image Pools rescinded the "deal" made and turned over the full amount to a collection agency. During this time, he had our company switch the service contract from his name, to the renter. He also implied, via a phone conversation, he would cover any repair costs. After receiving the credit card information from the renter at the property in question, Sharper Image Pools had to cancel service to lack of payment (2 months behind.) In summary, it is Sharper Image Pools position we were not responsible for the damages, when in truth, as stated above, the equipment was well beyond the normal life span. As of May 23, 2009, the member is still in collections, and has not paid."

I thought that they did a good job on the pool surface. I think that the price of the deck work was high. For $1300, I could have done that work myself. They did let themselves into our yard and they did leave some refuse. I called them to pick up the garbage and they did it right away.

The process was fairly quick and painless. Small issues arose and small mistakes were made, but David and his team quickly addressed all my concerns. Very good experience, from the estimate to completion. Most everyone on David's team was great to work with and very helpful, especially his office staff!
