They are really great. It's immaculate and the owner is very responsive to the clients. It has a room where you can create your own exercise program, dance, yoga, samba, or anything. There is a big computerized system there where you can even just go in and have your own exercise program all by yourself. They charge between $33 and $35 a month and it is open 24 hours. It's very secure and it's all locked up. If you are threatened, you just press a button and a police car is notified. It's very secure for a single female to workout at 3 o'clock in the morning if she wants to. It's also on Medicare list, so Medicare pays for it.

My training sessions with Jennifer are something I look forward to even though I do not like to exercise. I respect her expertise a lot, and like the way she relates to me. She is easy to work with, but also very diligent in making certain I do each exercise exactly right so as not to injure myself. I have worked with her now for about two years and would not even think of using anyone else.

We started receiving a bill for an and quot;enhancement feeand quot; from a third party billing company that wound up being for Shapes Fitness. Due to some surgery and illness, my wife was out of the gym for some time this year. Apparently, they picked up a third party billing company who sent us a bill for an enhancement fee. The bill didn't explain what it was for, and my wife thought it was an advertisement for a different gym, and threw the mail away as spam.

After getting more bills, she called the company and spoke with a representative who informed her that she wasn't the only one calling with questions about this fee and said it might take 6 weeks to research. We waited, but apparently the late fees did not stop while this was being investigated.

After being informed where this and quot;enhancement feeand quot; was hidden on the back of our contract, we called the gym to complain that they waited four months into the contract to bill for this fee and that because of their lack of an explanation of using the third party billing company, we now had late fees tacked on to the fee. They refused to do anything about it and were unsympathetic to my wife being through surgery and illness and not being in the gym to see a sign they had apparently put in the gym to notify members of the new billing company.

We know other veteran members of the area Shapes Fitness gyms and they have all complained about this fee. The gym staff contends that they did this to avoid increasing their fee by 10%, but the $29.00 enhancement fee is more than the 10% increase my wife's annual membership would have cost: $19.90. I feel that this is wrong, by keeping their fee low on the front and hiding a stiff annual fee through the contract. When my wife paid her annual fee, she was told this was all that she would ever have to pay, and now we're finding out that it is not the case.
Response from SHAPES TOTAL FITNESS FOR WOMEN
"All of our memberships include an annual enhancement fee. We do all of our billing through National Fitness, and they reserve the right to add any additional fees. This issue would have been resolved if the member would have contacted Shapes corporate office in a timely manner."

I have been with Jennifer Schulz for over a year. When I requested a trainer, I was given to Jennifer based on the needs I described to the staff person, and also because Jennifer had been highly recommended by others. We meet twice a week. I would have no way to describe how wonderful she is. Jennifer is very easy to relate to, and plans every session with a goal in mind. The improvement I have experienced in my overall physical condition is gratifying. I am 65 and this is important. I do a good bit of hiking in uneven terrain. Jennifer has built me up to where this is not as difficult as it had been. Thanks to Jennifer, I am feeling so much better physically and emotionally. My overall sense of well being has really improved. I sleep better and get through the day with more energy.

The main attraction is that it's just women. They had lots of equipment. They had personal trainers. It's large enough that you don't have to wait for each and every machine. Their equipment seemed very modern and up-to-date. It was always clean and repaired well. There was nothing torn and it was always working. It was always there and ready to use. I didn't compare their price to anything else because I was looking for a women's center.

Extremely dissatisfied in the poor customer service and unprofessionalism of the employees representing their corporate office. I canceled my membership as I moved out of state this past April. I complied with all of the requirements as stated on my contract yet continue to be billed every month and was also just charged an annual fee several days ago. Each time I was billed I contacted the local manager at the gym I had belonged to and she assured me that it would be handled. Today, I decided to contact their corporate office. I entered extension 1 and spoke to a male. I was so taken aback by this person's attitude. He cut me off when I was explaining my issue and proceeded to tell me that someone had sent me an email on May 3 about my cancellation fee and that I never responded so as he stated "You're still gonna have to pay, Mrs. Slater". After this statement, I asked to speak to his supervisor and he told me he didn't have a supervisor and that he is the CEO and my representative. What? I thought to myself. I could not believe this was actually happening. I have never in my life had to deal with this type of behavior from any company. I cannot believe that Shapes employs and tolerates this type of behavior and unprofessionalism. I decided to contact the local manager at the gym again, and explained what just happened. She informed me that it must have been someone in collections that I spoke to because they aren't very nice. Wow! She promised to look into this and as I was speaking to her to give her the dates of the charges on my account, I saw that there was another fee just processed for membership for June. So, apparently this person at the corporate office thought he would be nasty and authorize another fee on my account. I would not recommend Shapes to anyone based on this. I am reluctant to sign anymore contracts with any gym after this. Everyone was so welcoming in the beginning to get your business but after that service is out the door in a big way!

They keep the equipments clean and in good working order. There is always someone on hand to be sure that you don't over do your exercise. The staff is great, it's a woman only; I don t have much interaction though.
