My pool electrical subpanel needed to be upgraded to provide 240v power to a new pool pump. Hawkins scheduled a no-cost estimate/evaluation within a time period of my choice. The Hawkins tech arrived on time and gave me a cost estimate for a complete “pool panel package.” When I hesitated at the cost he called his office and was able to knock 15% off the cost.
I told him to proceed and he immediately started the project.
He left to get supplies and a helper. He returned within an hour and completed the work in less than 3 hours.
They replaced my entire outdoor circuit from the main panel in my garage to my pool equipment site. They installed a new main panel breaker (and rearranged other breakers to a more logical order), installed conduit from my main panel, through my attic, out the side of my house and down to the new panel site. They ran commercial grade wires, removed my old subpanel, timer box and light transformer and replaced them all with one integrated pool panel.
They provided efficient and timely response, an accurate estimate, and quality work as promised. When complete the job appeared to be well done and looked highly professional. My pool panel electrical subsystem now provides the power I need while meeting code requirements.
My only complaint is they did not re-install a GFCI breaker for my outdoor kitchen, which runs from my pool subpanel. The tech said he could not re-install my old GFCI breaker because it was not compatible with the new panel (would not fit). He didn’t install a new compatible GFCI breaker because he didn’t have one on the truck. When asked if using a non-GFCI breaker met code he admitted it did not, but then he explained what I could do to bring it up to code. So I bought a GFCI breaker from Home Depot and installed it myself. Install was quick and easy (about 5 minutes) but it cost me about $40.
After doing such a great job, I found it somewhat disappointing Hawkins left me with that issue to solve. I suspect if I had pressed him he would have come back later to install the GFCI. In his defense, that detail had not been specifically discussed before I agreed to the work, so he may not have felt obligated to re-install a GFCI.
Bottom-line, I was happy with the response and overall professionalism of Hawkins and would use them again for electrical work. But I will be very specific about what I expect as a finished project.

Never showed up. Contacted HSC as a referral from Leslie's and Pinch a Penny. I have electric current in my pool and needed to have it repaired before someone got hurt. They scheduled to come last Friday afternoon, no time given, I was good with that. They were going to call my cell phone when they were on their way, which as good. At 4:40 PM I called their office to see if they knew when they would arrive. The office person put me on hold to contact the technician to see when they would be there. They were unable to reach them and were going to call me back when they got a hold of them. I called back at 5:20PM and their answering service answered, they took my address and informatio and said if I didn't get a call in 20 minutes to call them back. I called them again at 610 PM, answering service looked at my previous call and said they would directly contact the technician. I waited at my home till 7 PM, no calls. No calls over the weekend at all. Called the office at 12:30PM Monday, they told me they rescheduled me for tomorrow morning, no phone call on this either. I was told that the technician did try to call Friday and I did not call back? Not sure where that came from but you can see I made every attempt to contact them. I gave them half my day.

As a sub for Riviera, they were contracted to install the panels and are the warranty center for all the Pentair equipment. They did an ok job on the installation of the panels(other than not owning a level) and circuitry associated with the pool. Unfortunately, they are not trained on the Pentair equipment they service. They reversed lines from the acid tank, which then filled the tank with pool water, then overflowed acid water all over the side of my house. They replace boards and equipment without the same firmware versions, so when they leave, the system doesn't work properly because of incompatible versions. Pentair (which has amazing support) has now making their 2nd trip within 6 months to try and figure out what they did. Right now, the heater and Intellichem are both not working and I have a pump tripping breakers. This just scratches the surface, they have wasted days if my time with wasted trips. They are absolutely useless on the Pentair products.

6/27/14 UPDATE
Just wanted to update my review based on a call I had with Hawkins and their response to my review. I do appreciate you reaching out and attempting to fix rectify the situation.

On the firmware. In July or August of last year, you guys replaced the Easy Touch board because the original board went bad. You replaced it with a board that was on the truck and it was a lower rev level than required to work with the Intellichem. While Pentair was here, they updated the firmware and got it all working.

Most recently when you were here to replace the breaker, the tech left wanting to replace the Easy Touch board (again) and a motor control board because the motor was running when the Easy Touch was off. All they had to do is go into the schedule to see that it was setup for the in-floor cleaning system to run, which bypasses the heater(s), and leaves the Intellichem and Intellichlor off. There was nothing wrong with the system and this would have been a waste of both of our time and Pentairs' money.

I do agree that I was not fair to you on the professionalism portion of the review and I have adjusted it, because even with all of the issues you guys came across here, you did try to fix the problem and were professional. Also, I feel that if I had a basic pool with limited features, you guys would be just fine. Again, I do thank you for trying, but it has been a constant struggle for a year now.
Response from Hawkins Service Co.

"To respond to Mr. [member name removed] complaint, our technicians at Hawkins Service Company are highly trained in the Pentair products and repair of such equipment. We are required to attend classes that Pentair has each year that are designed to inform us of new and existing products and any repairs problem that we may experience in the field. We have been a premier Pentair warranty station for nearly 20 years and highly regarded in our industry as a reliable and honest company to deal with. I took the time to contact my Pentair representative and the manufacturers head of pool automation about the comment regarding us installing firmware versions which were incompatible for his pool automation system. Both stated that firmware incompatibility has not been an issue and to their knowledge it has never been an issue at this customer's system. The Pentair supplied serial adapter that allows the home owners home automation system to communicate with his pool automation has been swapped twice due to failures or inconsistencies pointed out by the customer. But again, no mention of incompatibility has ever been mentioned to us by the customer or the manufacturer Pentair. I have had several conversations with the customer regarding his Intellichem system in which we have replaced two sensor probes that had failed as well as the actual chem pump for the system and eventually we swapped out the entire system for the builder. Each time the parts were supplied by the manufacturer for these are not normal stocked items so there was a delay on the repair each time due to waiting on parts to arrive. The customer indeed has experienced a breaker tripping on his pump, however each time we have been out the pump is working and there are no normal signs of pump failure. We changed out the GFCI breaker on these occasions in case it is an intermittent problem in which happens when a technician is not there. A GFCI breaker monitors the amount of current flowing from hot to neutral. If there is any imbalance, it trips the circuit. It is able to sense a mismatch as small as 4 or 5 milliamps, and it can react as quickly as one-thirtieth of a second causing the breaker to trip. This is a safety feature added to swimming pool pumps recently that is now mandated by code requirements. Unfortunately, it is common for these breakers to trip due to power outages or surges which are quite frequent due to Florida's weather patterns. We are willing to provide our professional service to Mr. Bull for any and all of his issues with the equipment, but he has chosen to deal with Pentair direct. The times we have been at his home, he was pleasant on the phone with us and forthcoming with the issues at hand and we have addressed the issues each time we have been on his property. It is only later we find out he has contacted Pentair or the builder and stated he was not happy with our service. We at Hawkins Service Company pride ourselves on our knowledge of products but more so on our customer service. We did reach out to the customer and offered for us to come out with the manufacturer to hopefully instill confidence to him that we indeed are factory trained and qualified and who better to show that with would be the manufacturer, but he declined."

They are great. They are very good. We have been very pleased with them. The guy was very knowledgeable, they worked with us, they were great. Everything they did was just fantastic. We are very happy with them. They do what they say they are going to do, they are very timely in their reaction time, and they seemed to really know their business. I am very impressed. We have had some other people that we have talked to, and tried to do business with but they were no where as good as they have been. They were right on point with the estimate. They are very good, we have used them again.

HSC is a subcontractor for Riviera Pools. HSC was instructed by my pool company to install a 40amp service panel as expected. Since I purchased a heat pump from a different company (not riviera) and needed an 80 amp service to my pool subpanel, I kindly asked the cost to run a larger gauge wire and an 80amp breaker from my main electrical breaker to my pool subpanel. initially they seemed a bit annoyed at my request, but after speaking to their boss, I was given a price of 350.00. This was sort of non negotiable at the time. The reason for the and quot;Cand quot; price grade is because they were already being pain for labor and materials to run a 40 amp service as a subcontractor. I was just expecting to pay for the difference in materials for the 80amp run since it is basically the SAME labor. So i think i ended up double paying for the 40amp service in paying for my pool and an additional 80 amp service in the 350.00.
The majority of the work was being done in the rain. The runs from the electrical panel to my salt chlorinator, ozone system, lighting system and pump were crooked and unorganized. I actually when back after they left to tidy things up (reroute wires and drill new holes for the tapcon clamps) Overall, I had a way better experience with other electrical services from angie's list and would not recommend HSC for electrical work.

Jimmy installed our new unit. He was VERY skilled at this job, and installed and tested our system professionally.
I HIGHLY recommend using Hawkins for your pool repair needs! And particularly, request Jimmy as your tech, if possible. And Joe will give you an extremely fair price for your project. HIGHLY recommended!

They told me the technician would be there between 1 and 4. He showed up at 5:30 and told me he was late because he had to go to physical therapy. No phone call from anyone. Then he quoted me a price to replace the system at $555. They charged me $365 for the exact same system three years ago.
Horrible service from start to finish.

Update
The response from Hawkins is absolutely not true. They didn't take one dime off of their service call price, which was $95 just for them to show up, late I might add. This was not offered by anyone and is revisionist history to make them look better. There was also no apology and the technician was extremely rude.

I was able to get my system repaired by Pilot Pool Service. Their service was outstanding and their price was much cheaper.
Response from Hawkins Service Co.

"We always strive to be on time or within the time period we have allotted for each call. However we do sometimes run behind and have systems in place to notify the customer and keep everyone informed of the situation. This is a case where operating procedure was not followed and communication was lacking, it has been addressed internally and are always looking for ways to prevent further instances. We pride ourselves on our professionalism and quality of service. We apologized for the error and took a percentage off of the service call to help compensate. This customer was upset about the price of the part needed to fix his equipment .While we did lower our service call price we're unable to sell the part any lower than what it was listed at as it was the lowest price we could sell it for."

Job is Compleated
Awfull Job from attic to my Garage Electrical box, Equipment is connected,
POOL BUILDER said they want to charge me to rerun the wires the proper way, that is incredible,
Will be waiting for my lawyer's information.
Response from Hawkins Service Co.

"Hawkins Service Company contracted with (removed member name) pool builder to perform electrical for a new pool. We never charged (removed member name) as we work for the builder in this case. Hawkins Service Co. ran a circuit to the new pool equipment through the attic of this home. Code requires this circuit to be piped in conduit and strapped to the trusses along the route. Also because the main panel of this home is on an exterior concrete wall the electrical was run neatly down the side of the wall as there was no room behind the panel. This job was performed with good workmanship and to meet code. We are regretful that (removed member name) is not happy with the work, however to completely conceal the electrical in the attic and down the wall in the garage would have cost much more and is not what we were paid by the pool builder to do. We offered to do this but in this case since the pool builder does not pay for this we would have to charge (removed member name). Concerning the outlets by the pool, these were existing outlets that the electrical inspector requested be changed out to tamper proof per new codes."

I have used Hawkins before when my pool gas heater needed repairs. I called on them again to inspect and fix the heater that was inoperable for a few months.
The technician quickly figured out the root of the problem and was able to fix it. He also did an overall inspection of the heater and showed me that the heater was reaching end of life based on the condition of the parts. He was honest and genuine with his recommendations to not spend money to replace expensive parts and gave me advice on what kind of heater I should look into when my current out finally gives out.
Overall, happy again with their service.

It went well. Lou was his name, and he was punctual, professional, and polite. He did the fix very fast, and decided that the housing did not need to be replaced at this time. This is important because I'm wary of contractors who tell you that you need something when you really don't. I'll call them again.
