Scratched hardwood floors and damaged painting. Paid for their extra insurance. Filled claim over 2 months ago but they don't respond.

I had junk removal scheduled for 10/28 with a timeframe of 10-12. They were more than 3 hours late and kept telling me they would be there soon. Because of this my entire day was wasted because they did not get to my place until 5. My floors got scratched and when I tried to get in touch with the manager, Mario Martinez, I could not. The number you call only says they will send a message to the franchise owner. This occurred more than once and still nothing! I had to pay to have more floors fixed so that they looked good to sell my house. They really need to find a better system than just "notifying the franchise"

My move time was scheduled anytime between 3-5, they called me at 11:30 the DAY OF - stating they needed to reschedule or cancel due to an incident happening the day before. I could not reschedule as I was moving the night of, they stated the only guys that were available had 3 other jobs to do today too and they just could not get to mine. I don't understand why I wasn't called the day before my move when the incident happened, that would have given me more time to prepare a backup plan. My husband and I usually move ourselves when we move, but this move was bigger since we were moving out of state we figured why not have somebody else load our truck up to save us some time. We should have done it ourselves to begin with or went with another moving company. The only reason this review is getting 2 stars and not one is because Vic in the Knoxville office was extremely helpful and apologetic, and tried everything he could to not have to cancel my move. They reimbursed my $139 travel fee that I had to pay to book the move, but I would not recommend using them.

Terrible. When College Hunks arrived, they told me that I had to pay for 1/4 of a truck, even though a queen bed, boxspring and mattress takes up much, much lkess room than that. As I needed them removed taht day, I was stuck, having to overpay a lot. I sent emails to the company two or three times but they have been ignored. this seems not to be an honest business. (I'd rate them no stars but the sytem requires a rating of at least one star.)

Horrible jock! After looking at the truck before it left I could see that there was plenty of room to take what yard waste was left and didn’t think it was my duty to argue with your workers about how they are told to load a truck. We pay a premium to have waste removed, we paid for a FULL truck. I have seen yard crews making minimum wage do a better job filling trucks to get the job done. I took pictures just to show that there was no yard waste even sticking up above the top of the bed, **** they didn’t even need the tarp cover at that point. Our yard still has waste left out front and if any of our neighbors ask, they know it was on you guys since they saw the truck with your advertisement on it out front. I have used other services such as 1-800-Junk, Junk King and others and figured I would give you guys a shot, never again! What I will do, is tell everyone that asks on social media, word of mouth or otherwise what a half a@@ job you guys do. Picture is AFTER they filled the truck, again $589.00 we paid, not only is the truck NOT full; look at all the waste that is left. This is also while we were sick with COVID, so we couldn't take care of this ourselves…

Everything went great. It was easy to book the job and they were very accommodating of my schedule. The Hunks showed up on time, gave me a very fair price to remove two piles of junk. They were very polite and worked really fast. It was like magic how quickly the two piles disappeared. I will definitely call them again when it's time to clean out our attic.

Every piece of our furniture was damaged. We provided plenty of moving material to safeguard our furniture and it was barely used. I do not recommend using this company. We are extremely disappointed.  The repairs for the damages are costing as much as our entire move!

Went great. I find this service is responsive, available on relatively short notice, and provides smiling folks who are good communicators, and know their work. We always feel they provide excellent customer service. Have used them several times. The only "glitch" sometimes, and it gets worked out, is that there is a 1-800 # or email to use to schedule service -- sometimes the local folks will call you and not be in sync with the 1-800 people, but you usually figure it out. And the people who answer at the 1-800 # are topnotch. They are usually very good at helping describe the work you need, and getting the right person to call you to set it up. I have been very pleased and highly recommend.

I had a very good experience. They were very quick and very supportive. They did a very good job of taking the furniture. I did tip them. They suggested a tip, I went along with that for the fact that most of the time you have movers, because I moved from state to state, you normally tip them. They did request a tip, but it wasn't in a demanding way. They just said do you mind. I've had seen cheaper places, but at the time I did it I had the offer on Angie's List. I had that around so long, I was just frustrated. I just said listen, let me just look at this company, they were listed  and I didn't think they were be that expensive. They were a tad more expensive than the companies Angie's List had listed. At the time I just got fed up because I've been putting it off. I was looking for people, so I said let me just call these people because I had other things I needed to do. They were very efficient. Some of the work was upstairs, like my desk was falling apart, they could have gotten injured by the way the desk was falling apart, not major injured. They could have hurt themselves for the way the desk was falling apart. I asked them could the take it, and they said yes they could take it. I heard them struggling with it, but they just didn't stop. What they did was try to solve what they could do first, how they could handle it and they didn't damage or scratch up my wall.

We were told they needed to use a second truck to "finish up" the work. So we were charged for a second truck. Cost was way too much for the amount collected.

Three guys showed up on the day and time requested, Gaige, Richard and Rod. They were very professional and courteous. They moved the table top and base until I was satisfied. I would call the Plant City location again for service.

Called and showed up on time. They also tried and fixed some of the furniture. They went above and beyond to help us for the two full hours. Two of the nicest guys, very polite. Very reasonably priced.

Hutson and Bama did a great job. They showed up with bright smiles. My daughter was definitely enjoying the "Hunktum". The item was in the garage. They picked it up while I was on a work phone call. I invited them inside to complete the paperwork and process payment. They were sweet and non-disruptive. I appreciate Hutson and Bama fitting my request in for same day service with ease.

Can't thank them enough for being courteous and patient!

They were prompt, arrived on time and were very professional and kind. Erica came out the day before, did a walk through and estimated 3 guys at 2.5 hours, since I also needed help packing kitchen breakables. She advised to pack dressers full of clothes, since all drawers would be secured with shrink wrap. The job ended up taking more than 4 hours. Although my husband made run to rent more blankets, furniture legs was not wrapped and damaged in transport. Tables legs were also braced against fridge which caused damage during transport, and lots of wasted space on truck where boxes could have easily been placed. Perhaps this was due to some miss communication on the part of the movers and my husband. However, my son's dresser was not shrink wrapped to prevent drawers from opening and was dropped off top of ramp. The piece is most likely unrepairable. They were apologetic and quickly contacted owner for reimbursement, but the piece had sentimental value that is irreplaceable. Accidents happen, but if it had been shrink wrapped, as assured by Erica, I think some damage could have been avoided. Once the damage occured, they began loading as quickly as possible and this is when items were not secured properly and we're damaged during transport. For example both dressers had mirrors to be reattached. These metal mounts were actually twisted, and had to be repaired by group unloading us in Florida. So, although they arrived promptly, we're professional, and handled the damage to the destroyed dresser right away, I do not feel we got the service Erica advised we would receive. If my husband had loaded the truck, we could have got at least 15 more medium sized boxes on the load. These were young, and appeared inexperienced guys, with one supervisor. We did not supervise, since we were used to the company in Florida, who handled everything, and asked questions when needed. They are friendly, professional and handle damage quickly, but if using them, inexpensive recommended close supervision to maximize space inexpensive truck and prevent damage during transport. They did immediately reimburse us for damaged dresser, which dropped bill to $200. In comparison to the company we use in Florida, this was a disappointing experience. I did feel bad, for the guys who dropped the dresser. They were very kind and apologetic.

I called up College Hunks to get an estimate. They were able to come out the next day. The gentleman said it would cost $400 to $600 to take away the shed, but he felt it would probably be more in the $400-$500 range. I agreed and set a date. They showed up a bit later than they originally said they would, but no real problem there except that I could not be there to greet them. I got a phone call from them saying that the shed was infested with living and dead bugs galore. I was not there to see it, but based on my experiences with the shed in the past, I believed it fully. They had to seal the shed off with bug bombs and come back the next day to continue. That next day (I was at work), I got a phone call from the company saying that they had completed removing everything but the floors and that they would charge me extra for continuing. I was a little concerned by this, and the company pressed the situation telling me they had three guys instead of two working the job and that I was getting a good deal. I was then asked to pay $600 in advance before the job was completed and that the remaining work would cost max $150. In retrospect I should not have paid in advance, but I did and asked them to continue working and contact me when they were finished. When they had finished, they called me again, but I was unable to answer the phone. They then billed my credit card on their own for another $150.

Here is the good:
  • the job was done fast, the shed is no more
  • the employees I met with were pretty friendly
  • it was easy to set up an appointment to get them out quickly
  • It was certainly a bigger job than I think the employee was aware of, but they worked hard to get the job done
Here is the bad:
  • You should never charge someone's credit card without their permission. Not sure if that is even legal.
  • You should not complete the bulk of a job and then increase by 50% the suggested price and then insist on a large payment before the job is completed. If this is an honest mistake in judgement concerning the cost of a project, then perhaps the employees need to be better versed in price estimates. When people are quoted a price, they are comparing that price to other companies. If you low ball a job to win it only to jack the price up afterwards, that is unethical.
  • Clean up was decent but not 100%. I had to pick through the driveway and back yard debris that remained to make sure there was nothing my children could cut themselves on. Only found one piece of metal among the remaining debris, so not too bad.
In the end, I think the biggest issue here was that I had a job bigger than they expected. This being the case, I would try working with them again because the positives were very positive. Don't let them charge you before the job is done, set a cost limit for the job where they guarantee it is completed, and you should do just fine with College Hunks.
