 + -1 moreRick Upham, the service tech called before he got to the house to let me know he was on the way. Once here he went right to work to clean the unit, change the main filter and test it to make sure that it was operating properly. After doing all of that, he recommended that we install a UV treatment system to improve the air quality in the house ( many in our family have allergies) and once we approved it, he quickly hooked it up and tested it out.

Description of Work: I have used this company for probably 20 years. I started with Courtesy Air Conditioning years ago which Action Air purchased several years ago. The techs who come out have always been great; however, the office staff could definitely be friendlier. They just seem very cold and sometimes I almost feel like my calls are a bother and I only call to schedule maintance, so its not like I am a big bother. They replaced both my air conditioning units and they did a great job and even though the units are in closets, they did a very neat job. Very professional. However, I would not recommend Trane units. I had both replaced with Tranes and one got a leak after shortly after the one year warranty was gone, and it took a couple of years before one of the best techs, in my opinion, figured out where it was. Then a valve in the inside unit went bad, again not too long after the warranty was up, and because it was welded in instead of screwed in, it cost several hundred dollars to get fixed. I was told that the newer model was redesigned so the valve could simply be screwed in. Since this was a design flaw, it bothered me to pay so much to get it fixed. I went with Trane because I wanted the best and paid the premium, and I didn't go with the extended warranty because I figured with Trane quality that I should not need the warranty. So since it looks like I need to buy a warranty even with a Trane, there is no reason to buy Trane and pay the price premium. Just buy something cheaper and buy the warranty and you will probably come out ahead.

 + -1 moreThey did a better job compared to a previous service provider and told me that I had a warranty on the product. They didn't charge me anything for their work. Their guy came in and did the calculation. He gave me the estimate and got the duct laid. The installers that came out were professional, and I am very pleased with them. Their price was very competitive. They showed up on time when I called them.
Description of Work: They came out and put the Trane air conditioner in for me. They fixed a wire that was not up to code and coming out of my breaker panel.

 + -1 moreThey are wonderful to work with. They're responsive and come when they say they will and do a good job. We even have a service agreement with them as well which includes emergency service too.
Description of Work: They came out and gave us a really good price for a new air system. Removing the old air handler from the attic was a big job and it was a messy job that they did efficiently and followed up with excellent cleanliness. They installed a new system, assisted us with helpful rebate offers and even threw in a free programmable thermostat (worth it's weight in gold).

 + -1 moreWork was scheduled within 2 weeks of signing the contract that included $1,200 in rebates. They also handled the coordination with my electrician. The work took two full days starting at 8 AM each day; all were punctual, pleasant and hardworking. The first day it was a crew of about 5, the owner came by and later the sales representative. The second day three staff worked through the day to complete the installation by 6 PM (sales rep came by again to check the progress), and they provided instruction on the programmable thermostat. Cleanup was thorough. They also coordinated the inspection date with the city, and it passed.
Description of Work: The heating and air conditioning system was replaced with a Trane system, and included all new duct work.

Recently, my husband came across them on Angie's List and saw that they were not that highly rated by someone, but I have never had any problems with them. If I have something wrong on the weekend they will come and if it's an emergency in the middle of the week they will always try to come that same day.

For what they did, you would think it would keep 2400 square feet cool, but no. I think I got a sales pitch instead of what I needed. It still isn't working like I think it should.

Description of Work: He called first and then he came out earlier then scheduled and was very polite and he put little surgical things on this feet so he didn't track mud in the house. He fixed the old system instead of saying to buy a new one. He did a regular checkup and checked all the vents.

 + -1 moreI used Angie's List to pick three companies. They all gave me an estimate. The salesman from Action Air was knowledgeable. Their price was in the middle range. The installation took one day. They were very professional and they cleaned up after themselves. However, the air-conditioner wasn't cooling the way I had wanted. I called them three times and they came and worked on it three times until they finally got it cooling the way I had wanted. I had to have one part replaced.

 + -1 moreThis is the least satisfied and most taken advantage of I have ever felt from a commercial transaction. I wasn't home so my wife was there, with two screaming newborns, and trusted the service technician, Rick, to be forthright with her as she could not check everything herself. My wife was charged $261 for a thermostat that retails for $50 to $81 depending on where you buy it. I called to complain, was told the extra cost was for a "warranty". My wife was not asked to buy a warranty, however, the bill does reflect a warranty. When I called a lady I spoke with was dismissive of my concerns and failed to understand the basic concept that if you charge someone for something you should invoice them for it so they know what they are buying. She then said she would have the owner David Russell call me. David never called. I didn't want to write this but in 5 months there has been no satisfaction AND Rick moved the A/C drip pan causing my A/C to leak on the ceiling.
Description of Work: They changed a thermostat upstairs that was malfunctioning.

 + -1 moreI called Action based on reviews here but they really are no different than any other company. First, they charge a $59 diagnostic fee (not to mention a fuel surcharge and a "misc parts" charge). Fine. The guy who came out found that the board was bad and then proceeded to provide a temporary fix by bypassing the board altogether. This would have been fine, except for the fact that he did it without asking my wife and then came in and told her phase one of the fix would be $140 plus $350 for the new board. Which leads me to the second part. All these A/C companies tout the fact that they "charge by the job and not by the hour." How does that benefit me? If they charged by the hour it would be much cheaper as they don't tend to spend too much time at your house. Additionally, there is NO transparency into how much these parts ACTUALLY COST. Whenever there is anything wrong with the A/C or heat, it's ALWAYS $300-$500 to get fixed, regardless of what the problem is.
Description of Work: Heat pump was short cycling, turning on for a few seconds and then turning off. They replaced a circuit board on the unit. They fixed the problem, but as their cost structure and pricing was no different than anyone else (see below) I can't rate them as anything more than average. When you go to a car dealer, you know how much the parts cost and how much the labor rate is. You might not like it, but it's there in black and white. When A/C repairmen come, there is no transparency, you will get charged what they want to charge you as you have no way to know how much things cost. Also, while the guy was fixing our unit, he sat outside and smoked a cigarette while the fan was blowing, causing our whole house to smell like a bar. Hence the downgrade on "Professionalism"

The guy they sent out was a salesman - not a technician and tried to sell us another system (I had just purchased the system from them 2 years prior). I told them we didn't want a new system, wanted cold air returns worked on. Went back and forth with phone calls, etc. They wouldn't give me a time to come out. I ended up going with another company.
Description of Work: Contract with me for a couple of years. Needed work on ductwork. Said they wouldn't do this work in the summer, which confused me. Called them back a few months later.

 + -1 moreDave Russell is who I dealt with. It was a very positive experience. They are punctual, professional, and knowledgeable. Their price was extremely competitive and I got a lot more work for my money. He also evaluated the duct work. A good example of working with a small independent company which was the better way to go. Less cost went to overhead. I would recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: I have used them for 6 or 7 years for the annual maintenance and any repairs of my HVAC system. They installed the replacement of the original unit.

 + -1 moreI was very impressed with Ken. Relative to one problem, we established that it was outside his company's ability to fix it. Nevertheless, he used his tools and experience to trace the entire system as far as he could. He isolated the problem and explained it to me well, so that I could engage a more appropriate contractor. That's fantastic customer service! I wouldn't go anywhere else for A/C service now.
Description of Work: The air conditioning unit was not cooling. Ken traced the system and bypassed a defective time delay (my choice), but replaced another part and serviced the system. The problem was resolved. The appointment was prompt and he arrived in the agreed upon time frame. Ken was knowledgeable, efficient, and very pleasant to deal with.
