I figured it needed a thermostat, heater element or thermal fuse, but don't have the equipment to accurately troubleshoot nor the time to experiment with repairs. I called Smith's; they called back the next day and set an appointment for later in the week. They showed up on schedule; confirmed what part needed to be replaced, repaired, tested and quickly resolved the issue. Cost was fair, a $75 service call fee and the cost of the parts plus tax.
Description of Work: Our dryer stopped heating: i made the regular checks, blown circuit, clogged vent, etc., and no luck.

Our microwave was making an awful noise - my husband went online and discovered which part is most probably was - he called several local companies and they said if they ordered the part and it was not the correct one, we'd have to pay for it... Smith's said they would not charge us if it wasn't the correct part. (Hard to believe no one stocked the part!) It was the correct part, and Smith's installed it. The installation was very long - much longer than they had anticipated, but they only charged us for the original quote (for an hour of labor). On top of this, they gave us a $10 Angie's List Discount!! We would use these people again for any applicance repair we needed - and have told several people already about the great job they did.
Description of Work: Replaced a magnetron in our 10 yr old KitchenAid microwave.

My Whirlpool dryer, purchased in 1994, was not working at all. I joined Angie's List, and Smith's Appliance Repair was at the top of the list, so gave them a call. Mrs. Smith answered the phone when I called, and was very pleasant. She offered me an appointment the same day, at 5pm. Mr. Smith was on time for the appointment (actually a bit ahead - which was terrific!). He located the issue (a fuse needed to be replaced), and quickly and efficiently made the repair. He replaced the dryer hose as well with a new, more efficient piece. When asked, he shared with me his repair experience background and how his business came to be, and was professional in every way. I will call on him again if/when I need repair services, and will recommend his family's business to others. He charged a fair price and made the repairs promptly. No hard sell on any item, he just made the diagnosis and went about his work. Thanks, Angie's List! Ann Rowe-McMullen (I just picked an approximate date of when the repair was made - I believe it was Summer 2011).

My dishwasher drum was off balance so I called for repair. He was very polite and professional. After inspecting the machine I was advised that it was too expensive to repair and I should buy a new machine. I am grateful that he was honest and did not do a $400 repair. The usual charge for a visit is $70 but he lowered it to $50 since no repair was actually done and then honored the $10 off Angie's list coupon.

He came out and put a timer in the first time. He came out the second time and replaced the parts. Then, it happened again. The third time he came out and stated that if this doesn't work out, will have to replace with more expensive parts. I feel that I was being nickeled and dimed.

Our Sanyo front loading washer had stopped allowing cold water to be used, the wells for bleach and softener had started backing up and filling with water and we kept getting an E2 error (tub off balance) on most loads. Called and L/M stating we got the number from Angie's List. Was unaware of the $10.00 coupon and it was not mentioned at the time of the callback so I do not know if the price I paid was with or without the coupon. They called back the next day. Had also called Appliance Pro but they do not work on Bosch washers. Found it is hard to find someone that works on LG, Bosh, Samsung appliance's so will definitely remember Smith's and use them always as we have several appliance that are not traditional makes as well as several that are. Made an appt. and they were there within ten minutes of the appointed time. He was very friendly and extremely knowlegable about the appliance. He was able to correct the situation quickly and gave us several hints as to how to make the washer work to the best of its capacity. I will definitely call Smith's and use them for all appliance repair needs.
Description of Work: Cleaned the intake valve and screen for the cold water on our washer. Made sure we were no longer getting the E2 error. Explained several different things to look out for to keep washer working better.

This company was very professional, pleasant, and responsive. We will call Smith's for appliance repair from now on. Can't say enough good things about them!
Description of Work: Our 12+ year old Maytag washer quit agitating or spinning, and of course it was in the middle of a large load. I left a message on voice mail and hoped for the best, and a couple of hours later received a call back. They were very busy, but they worked with me to get the appointment set for that afternoon, as our household does a lot of washing and we were stranded with a washer full of dirty water. A short while before the appointment, Mr. Smith called to say he was on his way and arrived promptly. He figured out the problem and thought he had a replacement board on his truck. Turns out he did not and would have to order one, but then he went the extra mile. He checked the board components carefully and believed that just a single microswitch was needed, rather than the entire board the switch was on. He had a replacement microswitch on his truck, so he made the repair and the washer worked great. Mr. Smith checked all of the cycles and made sure everything was working before he left. Because the entire board did not have to be replaced, the repair was much less than we had anticipated.

For the first appt, he was on time. Things went ok. It ended up being the motor, which had to be ordered. I could not believe no one in Tallahassee had one. It had to come from Jacksonville. So therefore didn't want to schedule the next appt until the part came in. I had to call on Monday am to ask about it. Was told she was going to the part store and would let me know. Turns out he had the motor at home just had to order another fuse, but I was not told that until I had called on Monday. In the meantime, I was having out of town guest and really needed to get bedding, laundry done. I was forced to go to the laundromat 2 times. He was about 1/2 hour late for the 2nd appt. As it has turned out, all is fixed and only took about 1/2 hour on the second appt. The cost was not to bad. I would probably call again. He was very nice, professional and cleaned up his mess.
Description of Work: My washing machine was not spinning. He checked first for a fuse, then it blew when he plugged it back in. Spoke to someone on the phone from GE & & figured out it was the motor. So a new motor had to be ordered & he returned a week later & installed it.

I spent $250 for the part. The service went fine and they were very quick. They were able to come out and check out my washer within an hour of me calling. They charged either $40 or $60 to come out. It could have been cheaper, but I was happy with it at the end.

Tech came initially and did not have a part to replace light switch in G.E. refrigerator although I had indicated my brand and model number when I scheduled the appointment. Had to order. This was not particularly an inconvenience for me, but he did have to make a second trip. Returned approximately a week later and installed switch which only took a few minutes. Was pleasant and professional. I did not compare prices with other providers and have no idea how his charge for labor or part would compare. I selected this provider because of his excellent ratings on Angie's List and would use again.

He came out and spent a lot of time to find a leak. He found evidence where it had leaked but couldn't find where it was leaking. He thought it might be the clutch. He told me to continue to use it until it quit working. He said it would be a big expense to try and tare it apart and find the problem. He was very good. I would call him out again. The price was reasonable. He seemed to know what he was doing and what he was looking for. He also cleaned it out for me.

We called Smith's Monday and arranged a service visit for Tuesday. Mr. Smith was prompt, professional, pleasant, and obviously knowledgeable. He worked for about an hour and charged about $110 for parts and labor. He had correctly guessed which part (an electronic component) we might need and brought one with him.

I called at 830AM on a Monday and spoke with Mrs. Smith who told me her husband could come look at the dryer between 4-5PM Monday afternoon. I was amazed to find out she had just had a baby Sunday morning and was still in the hospital, answering calls on her cellphone!!!! Patrick called 30 minutes before the appointment and was waiting for me when I got home. He had the problem fixed and was on his way in an hour. He even suggested some additional work that should be considered, even though it was not the kind of work he did. He was courteous, professional and puntual. It was worth every penney to get my dryer working again. I would definitely recommend him.
Description of Work: I had just moved into a new house. Every time I turned the clothes dryer on I got an error message. Patrick came out to the house, found a blocked duct and cleaned it out.

My dishwasher had stopped cleaning, with the dishes dirty, water often in the bottom, and the dish soap undissolved. I found Smith's Appliance Repair from other listings on Angie's List. I called and set up an appointment. He showed up on time and was very professional. He asked me questions to determine the nature of the problem and then got right to work. He found the part that was broken, it was clogged with calcium deposits and he showed it to me. He told me the cost upfront for the part and labor. Fortunately, he had a new part in his truck and was able to replace it immediately. My dishwasher now cleans beautifully and I have not had a single problem with it since he fixed it. I will definitely call him again for any other repairs I need to have done!

Great office help. The appointment was set for 5:00pm. Patrick was running late and his office called to let me know if might be as late as 6:00. He arrived at 6 and was done by 7. I needed an new icemaker, he had one on the truck. Patrick told me that it would take a while for it to start making ice but if it had not made the first load by 11 to call him in the morning. He cleaned up after himself, and the ice maker works. I was very pleased and will use him again.

Same day service and repaired it in one visit. We noticed the fridge (Kenmore) was not cold on Thurs. evening. On Fri. morning I called Sears and they said they could come in 5 days. So we called Smith's (at about 8 AM) based on the recommendation of Mays-Monroe (local appliance retailer). Maybe we were just lucky, but they said they would be in the area and could squeeze in a visit later that morning. It seemed that they went out of their way to help after finding out that it was our only fridge and knowing that the weekend was coming. I was fully expecting that parts would have to be ordered and we would be without a fridge over the holiday weekend. To our surprise, Patrick fixed it on the spot (took about an hour) for what seems like a reasonable charge for such fast service, including a $30 or so part. Pleasant and professional service.

My 20 year old convection oven was not holding a temperature. It would heat continually which made it difficult to cook. The service person showed up on time and on schedule and gave me an estimate and explained that it would take a few weeks to get the parts. True to their word, however, as soon as the parts showed up, they fixed the oven like new.

My clothes dryer stopped heating the other day and an appliance company repair service tried to sell me an expensive service plan over the phone while unable to schedule a repair date sooner than the following week. I had no idea who to call, the phone book gave so many options. I saw that someone highly rated Smith's Appliance Repair on Angie's List so I gave them a call. They scheduled an appointment for later in the same day and completed the repairs in a flash. Although he was briefly delayed at an earlier job, he called to inform me and make sure it was okay. WOW! Patrick (the repairman) was very pleasant, professional, and efficient. I would happily recommend his repair services to other members and will surely use him again should I suffer any other appliance problems.
Description of Work: I used Smith's Appliance Repair for work on a 2 year old clothes dryer that stopped heating. The heating element was replaced. The repairman, Patrick, also provided some guidance as to remedying the back-up of material in the vent hose & pipe - a possible cause of the element problem.
