After my first call, the owner was every quick to meet me on-site.  He measured and then things went; very smoothly.  Used a two man crew.  One of the installers was clearly the most experienced and the other was still in the learning stage.  They both worked hard and steadily. The resulting looks very good.  I would recommend this company and tamp;on

Several yrs ago I had someone from NRG come by and give me an estimate for some window replacement. I was impressed with the person and would have had them do the work but that was when the economy crashed and we put off the windows. Called them back for new estimate along with a couple of other companies. The person who came to house was apparently the owner. The other companies had come in the house, looked at the windows and work that would be needed, talked to me about what I wanted and one had sample of window and options. The person from NRG, again apparently the owner - got out of his car, stood on the sidewalk and looked at the windows and gave a quick estimate. He probably knew what he was doing and was certainly in line price wise with the others who came by. However I felt like he was in a hurry, didn't want to bother with any questions and did not give me the impression of being someone I'd want to be spending a lot of money on to work on my house.
Response from NRG Industries Inc

"Unfortunately I do not remember this particular occurrence, typically I give 5 or more estimates a day but apologize for giving off the impression that I was too busy to explain our windows in detail. On some days my schedule may be full, but in no way was my intention to rush through the appointment. NRG has been serving customers for the past 31 years, helping them make educated decisions on purchasing products that fit their individual needs. We also pride ourselves in servicing what we sell even after the project is completed."

It would take too long to share all of the awful things they did. Here are a few: (1) They were doing two bathrooms, total renovations. They pulled an electrical permit for one bathroom. City inspector came, inspected electrical work for bathroom one, and on the way out, he walked past half-gutted bathroom two and asked "Where's the permit for this bathroom?" No permit. He looked at the work, and said it was not up to code. They had to redo it. After they redid it, the NRG worker complained to me, "It wasn't that bad. He only made us redo it because we didn't have a permit." (2) They tell you upfront that they use their own experienced, reliable employees, not subcontractors. Then they sent nothing but subcontractors. They say that they don't use prefab vanities; they have a cabinetmaker who makes high quality stuff. Then they tell the subcontractor to build the vanity from a kit. He puts everything out on the floor, and asks me: "Do you know how all this fits together?" He puts it together, it looks all crooked. Then they bring it cabinetmaker to take it apart and rebuild it. He has to work around all the holes that the first guy drilled. I could go on and on. They used cheap metal pipes instead of PVC, which we have had replaced by other plumbers (who said, "Who put this stuff in?"). Big chunks of grout have fallen out, and we need to get someone in to do a lot of patching. There's plenty more, but I'm tired of remembering these clowns.

"It is unfortunate that Mr. [member name removed] allowed five years to pass without notifying our office of his grievances. Had he notified us we would have been able to take a proactive stance and rectify the issues at the time of construction. It has been our experience that no one benefits, not the customer nor the company if we are unaware of issues when they occur. Upon seeing the review we contacted the homeowner immediately to better understand the issues which he states occurred during the time of installation. Our contract details a major renovation for Mr. [member name removed] in his master bathroom and his hall bathroom. The work to be done included total demolition of both bathrooms, custom shower doors, custom tile, custom tub, custom counter tops, new toilets, moving of shower drains, new fixtures, vanities, mirrors, sheetrock, and painting. According to Mr. [member name removed] review his first issue dealt with permitting, upon inspecting the file we see all plumbing to be performed on the job site was permitted and there was a final plumbing inspection passed by the city building inspector. The second issue was with the type of material used , the homeowner states we used “cheap metal pipes” metal does tend to cost more than PVC and again all the plumbing work passed building code and inspection by the city. Thirdly, NRG is privileged to have our own skilled employees some of them have been with us for nearly 20 years. On some of our job sites we do utilize licensed and insured reputable subcontractors who specialize in certain aspects of our remodeling projects. Our response to this review is as follows, it is difficult for any company to do something about a problem they are unaware of. Typically, If the workmanship is not up to a customer’s standard they notify us during the construction process so we can address any issues immediately. Unknowingly, we were paid in full at the completion of the project and the customer was unhappy. In this unfortunate situation, we heard nothing from him until 5 years after the completion of the project when an Angie’s List review was posted. NRG has been in business for 31 years and we can assure you performing substandard work and using substandard materials have not been the catalyst for our longevity. At the same time we can also assure you we like all other companies have made mistakes in the last 31 years of serving consumers. The difference between the two scenarios is learning from our mistakes by listening to our customers when occurrences arise, and working toward customer satisfaction that we strive for daily."

They installed the beam as requested: good job done. However, the sealing of the roof was not satisfactory. Roof still leaking through seams they had "sealed." I had to go myself to the roof and put new seals which I had bought from Lowes.

From our first contact with NRG staff it was wonderful.  We initially had a bit of sticker shock not because the estimate was overpriced but because we had not done any major construction or home improvements in a decade.  William Strickland stayed in touch from the time we accepted the bid to the start of work with the slab replacement until the final days of finishing up minor details.  When workers were here he tried to stop by at least twice each day except when he was out of commission briefly due to a brief illness.  Some days he was here for much of the time. All the workers communicated to us when they were coming, detailed what work was planned for the day, answered any questions or got someone at NRG office to find out the answer. Once the crew had communicated what they were going to do that day they put there heads down and stayed at it until what they had told would be done that day was finished.   I was even surprised that they would tell us they were going to lunch and when they came back. They would be back in much less than an hour, a couple of times in twenty minutes.  They cleaned up at the end of each day and again communicated when they would be back or hoped to be back.  Appreciate this was during the present weather pattern (Spring Summer 2013) where we have had rain almost everyday and on some days it rained all day and we were not the only project on their schedule.
The vinyl windows are four panels per sector that can be open just at the top or bottom one panel at a time, all the panels at the top or bottom or in the center.  So you can adjust for the best circulation on a given day.  Leaving a panel open at the top during rain events is very nice.  Leaving the top and bottom panel open drives circulation through room.
I must give extra comment on the new skylight panels for the roof.  We have three.  They are not like skylights you have seen or at least I had seen before.  They are flat like the roof so they don't catch leaves, etc like regular skylights. They are translucent not clear.   They disperse light at a high level all day from about an hour after sunup until about an hour before sunset even during cloudy and raining days without heating like clear skylights might.   One of the reason we had wanted a screened in porch was the mosquitoes but at the same time we were concerned it would be way too dark and would make the house inside too dark since the porch covers almost half with length of the house not counting the garage.  The skylights solved the darkness problem.  They are basically like three very bright fluorescent lights running the width (12 ft) of the roof though the light is a better spectrum than cool whites that most are use to.  They are basically like bright full spectrum fluorescent lights.
We are really pleasantly surprised at just how well the entire project went. Far better than any previous project. We will use NRG again if the need arises.  Note they also followed up with two thank you phone calls, thank you email and a thank you card.
All in all it was a wonderful experience.  Having been in charge of building four major buildings late in my career and completely redoing my kitchen the last home project I was not looking forward to having any construction work done by anyone.  NRG changed all that.

The contractor explained each step in detail before the work started. Each step was done when promised and as the workers began each step they took time to explain what they were doing. Everything went as described by the owner and we are very pleased with their work. We were so pleased we recommended the contractor to our neighbor.

The work NRG performed was excellent.  When I documented some additional work I thought was needed, they were prompt in inspecting things, agreed to do the work, and finished the work quickly.  When I had some specific questions after using the windows for awhile, they came out quickly and answered all my questions.

The work done by the employees NRG was way less than desirable; they wrote up a contract with some specifics in it. As the project progressed they decided that there wasn't enough money in the project to complete it. They told me that without paying even more money the project would not be completed. The sales rep told me that the only way that they would finish putting in the French doors was if a judge told them they had to complete the project so I had to take them to court. I won the settlement. The work done by their sub-contractors was very good however.
Response from NRG Industries Inc

"The sales rep that was responsible for the member's project no longer works for our company. The contract he drafted was not specific enough concerning all the details. We all understand that . We tried very hard to work through the member's issues. We regret her having so much trouble regarding her project. We wish her the very best ! William R Strickland/ President"
