From the initial call to schedule an appointment with Shea, to meeting Doug the consultant for the appointment, to talking with Chris about scheduling the work every e was professional and reassuring. My job was scheduled for two weeks, but due to rain and other jobs not being completed it was delayed getting started. I am so glad that I waited. When the crew arrived they walked through the job with me and verified the details they had on the work order. Overall craftsmanship and quality is great. Would recommend to any one for a great fence.

The short version is this: If honesty and integrity are important to you, RUN in the opposite direction because this company embraces neither. If you want the details, read on. I will first say that my new deck is spectacular, and that Daniel and his team (Garrett, Floyd and another young man whose name I can’t remember) were terrific. Daniel was a hard-working man who took his job seriously and did it excellently. If you could hire him off of G and S books, I’ve no doubt that the pickiest of clients would be pleased. Unfortunately, he is part of G and S and I would never, ever use them again. Several neighbors have already stopped by the house to admire my new deck and to ask who built it, saying they’d like something similar. I’ve had the great pleasure of telling them to use any fencing company other than this one. The sad thing is that just a little customer service would have avoided the hard feelings I have towards this company. All they really needed to do was to call me and explain to me why they could not build my deck in a timely manner. Instead, they would call once or twice a week and lie to me. Drake Anderson: once the contract is signed and the check clears, you’ll never hear from him again unless you contact him. He did not follow up on a single thing he said he would do, and when he did answer my texts or emails, he lied repeatedly. Oh, but he “apologizes for the inconvenience.” Office manager Shea: I don’t know what else she does, but I think her primary job is to call the customer twice a week for no purpose other than to lie to them. “They’ll be there Monday.” “They’ll be there Thursday.” “They’ll be there Friday, will work on Saturday and will come back on Monday to finish the job.” Every single time she opened her mouth to me, it was a lie. Travis, the owner: How much does a job have to cost in order for a customer to deserve a return phone call? My $14,000 job apparently wasn’t enough. Despite multiple requests, I could never even get him to return my calls. But judging by the people he allows to represent him, I already knew his level of integrity. Most organizations reflect the values of their leaders. Apparently the owner of this company needs a reminder of what his values are supposed to be: WHAT ARE THE MARINE CORPS VALUES? Honor This is the bedrock of our character. It is the quality that empowers Marines to exemplify the ultimate in ethical and moral behavior: to never lie, cheat, or steal; to abide by an uncompromising code of integrity; to respect human dignity; and to have respect and concern for each other. It represents the maturity, dedication, trust, and dependability that commit Marines to act responsibly, be accountable for their actions, fulfill their obligations, and hold others accountable for their actions. (Source: [*** Link removed ***] Emphasis/bold, mine) Here is my warning: pay their mandatory 3% fee and use your credit card. Do not give them cash! Once they have your money you are at their mercy. If you pay with a credit card you will at least have the ability to contest the charges. When you do that you have the credit card company backing you up. In order to get this company to actually come do the work I had paid them to do, I had to engage an attorney to sue them for breach of contract. I also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Only after I had engaged the attorney did they finally send a team to do the work. So as I said in the beginning of this review, the deck looks awesome but the company completely lacks integrity.
Response from

"Integrity, G&S was never sued by your attorney, nor even received a phone call. I never received an email, phone call, or text from you for me to respond to. Your false accusation to the BBB that G&S refused to do the work, we simply cannot build your deck without the materials present and never used the word refused. My team did an extraordinary job of communicating with you to include Drake informing you that we had to order materials, and at one point he told you we had most but not all materials in, and we are waiting on Trex, and once we have all the materials in, we will promptly schedule your deck. Furthermore, at the fourth week from contract date my office called to give you an update and make contact with you, (standard procedure) and when the update was not what you wanted to hear your response was “why are you calling me if you don’t have additional information”. My staff continued to contact you regardless. Yes, we missed our initial start date and I regret that, and yes Dan missed his first day of work in 7 months that Saturday when he thought he may have COVID (Company policy-do not come to work without a passing test), but otherwise I feel like my team performed well, and communicated with you when there were changes. I also believe your frustration may be better suited towards Trex, ability to procure materials, or maybe the impacts of COVID as those items set the schedule with your project. I do appreciate your feedback, you tipping the guys who performed the work, and the prompt final payment upon completion. Please come by the office, I’ll be happy to review all of the conversations, dates of conversations, materials ordered date and received, and the timeline from materials received to start date. Lastly, I also wish it was faster to get materials, and just like you I wish this whole project could have gone faster from start to finish. Things are different with demand level, and COVID, but I’m glad to hear you really like the end product!"

Workers obviously didn't know how to build a fence. G & S Fence and Deck did a horrible job building my deck. The first thing they did was send me an invoice with the incorrect address. I had to pay $25 to my bank to stop payment on the check because they never received it. I asked to be reimbursed the $25 since they provided the wrong address, but they refused to do it. I have 87 pictures of problems with the fence after they first put it up. Problems include: 1. The fence around the A/C unit was supposed to be five feet. They put six feet. I told them it was wrong, and they just cut across the top to make it five feet. This left a straight top instead of normal way like the rest of my fence. 2. They put up cracked boards. 3. They put up warped boards. 4. They left significant gaps between the boards. 5. For most of the nails, they drove them to deep which means the boards will pop off after a time. 6. Because they drove the nails so deep, the points of the nails stick out on the other side. 7. They put one nail instead of the required two. 8. They put no nails instead of the required two. 9. They put nails exactly on the edge of the board, so it was not doing anything to support the board. 10. I asked for an extra-large gate. Instead of putting three hinges on each gate to support the weight, they only used two. 11. The two gates were not level with each other. 12. They left holes in the ground from the old posts. 13. They left the concrete blocks from the old posts. They came back and fixed the gates, so they were parallel to each other, as well as some of the other problems with the fence. After it rained, the post on the gate they fixed sank several inches. When it did this, because of the weight of the extra-large gates, it damaged the hardware on the fence. They did not put enough concrete and tamp down the dirt enough to prevent the ground around the post from sinking. I have six photos showing this damage. I have 68 photos of damage they have yet to fix. Furthermore, they did not fix the fence around the A/C unit. They refuse to fix the damage to my gates. I have provided a letter from another contractor stating that the size of my gates required three hinges on each side.

Poor quality, inferior products, and did not stand by their warranty. Plus they charged quite a lot for the work. In less than a year, the wooden posts had warped, the wood was splitting and breaking, the hinges were bent and the latches were no longer holding the gate closed. Their website states they have a two year workmanship warranty, but they refused to stand by that.

Had an appointment for 4 pm. Took off work to meet them. Guy shows up an hour early and discusses the project with my 15 year old son. Tells my son he has what he needs and leaves. Get home at 4 pm and my son says the guy came and went. That I need to call him to ask him to come back. I had an appointment. Why set an appointment if you are not going to be there? It cost me money to take off work early. Most unprofessional experience. Would never do business with this group. No customer service.

G&S did a great job. This was an expensive undertaking, but well worth the price. The concrete pavers look great and will last and last, unlike my old wooden deck that was falling apart due to wood rot. Aaron and his crew worked very hard day in and day out for 4 solid weeks in 100+ degree heat. They are my heros! Thank you for a job well done!

STAY AWAY!!! This was the worst experience that I have ever had with any services provided. They had to come back 6 times to finish a job that was supposed to be done in a day and a half. The issues to the workmanship were grave. The first time I contacted the office to complain about the issues, Marybeth was dismissive and after persuading she came over to do a final review of the work. The experience I had in claiming these issues was worst than pulling teeth. The issues were that they left the fence in worst condition than it was after hurricane Michael. Marybeth was dismissive and rude upon these issues. After a 3 hour discussions and reviewing over 20 major issues on the job she agreed to have her staff back. In one of these conversation she ended screaming at me and that what the contract covered was not going to be done. This company did not finish the job that they were contracred for and deducted almost nothing out of the final estimate. I had to hire another company to finish this job making this job cost almost twice what I anticipated. I highly encourage you to go with any other company and save your wallet and your mind. If you do decide to hire them go over the job with an inspector. They cut so many corners and did such a poor job that if i had not payed attention i would had to contract another company making this job cost almost 3 times what it should have. The 50% deposit is a trap. I must have had a conversation with everyone in this company and they were all dismissive and extremely unprofessional. This is a warning stay far away from this company, a simple fence repair took 6 weeks to complete.

Our 20+ year old deck needed to be replaced. What we envisioned was a deck that had more area, wrap-around steps, access to our above-ground pool, and – because of short distance to the ground - the clean look of no railings. Also we wanted poles installed for our sun shade sail. From start to finish our experience with G & S Fence and Deck was a good one. Drake was our point-of-contact for the project; he did the estimate and was very receptive to our ideas. The work was begun in a timely fashion with Greg in charge of the build team. There were challenges and they were overcome, resulting in a deck we are very happy with. Our thanks to the entire G & S team!

We hired Travis because of his creativity and knowledge of pavers. I wasn't sure what we wanted, but Travis' suggestions were spot on and turned out to be beautiful. He was not the least expensive, but definitely worth it! We will be having him build a porch over the new patio...again, his suggestions were classy and perfect. The workers that did the actual install were very respectful and hard working. Just don't be in a hurry with paver install......the rain can delay.
Response from

"Your patio turned out amazing! Thank you for your patience, December was a very tough month for the paver crews. Fortunately the rain has not slowed us down so far this year!"

This was a small privacy fence to replace one that had come down during Hurricane Michael. I set it all up in early December, but they weren't able to get to me until a few months later. This was expected due to the amount of damage around town. I asked for a horizontal look to the fencing and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
Response from

"Thank you for your patience! The hurricane has certainly put us into another gear. I'm glad you are happy with your fence. Those horizontal fences are very nice, and definitely a change of pace for a privacy fence."

G and S Fence went above. There was a mistake made and not only was it immediately corrected but at their cost. The crew doing the actual work was outstanding and asked for input as well as kept me in the loop as to what would happen next. Outstanding experience and I have neighbors driving by asking who did my fence.
Response from

"Thank you for leaving a review, and the opportunity to work with you! I wish we could have been more responsive for you, and we are doing our best. With the sudden influx of work because of the hurricane it has been very challenging to keep up with the number phone calls coming in. I've hired some extra help and thus far the help has gotten us back on track. Again, thank you for your business!"

Excellent! Drake was my project manager and he was great to work with. He communicated with me before, during and after the project was completed. My husband and I just bought our first family home together and we couldn’t have been more excited to start adding things to it, and the first item on our list was to get rid of the chain link fence and get a privacy fence. We (obviously) had no idea where to start so we searched all over the web and came upon G&S. After reading the reviews we decided to call them up. Maribeth was the one who ended up taking our call and coming out to see us just a few days after our call. She was so lovely and helped us figure everything out (style, price, etc). After a few short weeks of waiting (they are very busy, so call soon if you want to use them!) we got our fence installed and my husband and I couldn’t be happier! Our dog loves to run around (and not escape) and it’s so Lovely to have a backyard we can just walk out to without having everything looking into our yard. We will definitely be using them again when we are ready to get pavers installed!

My initial rating for G & S Fence was an F. I am changing my rating to an "A" based on their immediate response to my inquiry, punctuality and professionalism. G & S did not complete any work for us; however the G & S representative who spoke with us concerning the deck was on time and very courteous. G & S rep referred another person to us regarding some wood rot on the back of the house. This person never contacted us and the deck could not have been built without first fixing the wood rot.. I have been informed that this person has no affiliation with G & S.. For this reason, I have changed my rating. My only suggestion is that someone at G & S should have contacted us within a week or two to follow up..

I contracted with G and S Fence and Deck in April 2017 to replace a cracked asphalt driveway and parking area with white stone and topsoil in November 2017. They demanded more than half the estimate six weeks before work began, used the wrong size aggregate, cleaned up the transmission fluid their truck leaked on the cement portion of the driveway with pure muriatic acid that washed away the top layer of concrete down to the aggregate and so damaged the cement permanently. G and S made several appointments but never showed up, denied the damage they caused, have been condescending and disrespectful. I asked for white stone for the driveway and was given a choice of small or large crushed granite aggregate, which I was told was light and white. I was not given a sample, but shown a photograph, and the aggregate looked white in the photo. Apparently it was taken in very bright sunlight. I was asked for and paid a deposit of $1900, over half the estimated cost of $3580, at the beginning of October 2017. At that time, I asked that my initial choice of small-size aggregate be changed to large-size aggregate because the driveway has a pronounced slope and I was concerned the small aggregate would wash down into the street, a concern I had brought up with the salesman when he created the estimate. I was told by the salesman my change of aggregate size would be done. G and S finally showed up the last week of November, after I called and they kept making excuses. Removing the old asphalt and putting down topsoil went well. The stone that was delivered, however, was small aggregate, not what I had asked for. I was ill, and did not make them return it--a big mistake. They had also neglected to bring metal edging for the driveway which I had requested in the original bid (they brought it for one end but not for the sides), and I told them it would be necessary to keep the grass from growing into the aggregate. They were unhappy, but installed it. The aggregate was light gray, not white as I had wanted and expected. When it got wet, the day after they finished, it became quite dark gray. I called G and S and was told it would be dark when wet, but would dry light. This is partly true. It dries lighter gray. It is never white, and as time as gone on, it has been medium to dark gray most of the time. It is nothing like the white stone I originally asked for. While G and S was off-loading the aggregate, their truck was parked on the cement approach to the driveway and leaked transmission fluid onto and into the cement. G and S at first denied this ("Our trucks don't leak!"), but when I refused to pay them any more money, they finally came (weeks later) and cleaned it up with pure muriatic acid, which killed the grass on both sides and damaged the cement. Three cement contractors have examined it and all have said that the longevity of the cement has been compromised and it will now stain more easily. I have also repeatedly asked that they return and compact the driveway again, since the small aggregate is doing what I was concerned about, which is slowly shifting down toward the street. First G and S lied and said they had done this ("It's in our logbook!"), but because the small aggregate shows every mark, it was obvious they had not. The week before Christmas, the owner wanted a check for the remaining amount of the estimate and I said I would have a check for him and would show him the problems with the shifting aggregate and the stains in the driveway. He said he would come on Monday, December 18. I wrote the check for the full amount remaining on the estimate and waited. He never showed up. I told him I would put the check in an envelope on the door. It was still there Tuesday, so I took it down. I told him I would be there on Wednesday afternoon, December 20, but had church duties in the morning. He came when I was not there, lied about compacting the driveway, and complained that the check was not still on the door. Meanwhile, I waited all Wednesday afternoon for him to show. I made another appointment for Friday, December 22 and waited all day. Once again, he never showed up. The office manager then began sending me nasty e-mails about paying the remaining amount and charging interest on the unpaid balance. I finally sent them a check for $1000, a little over half of the remaining amount, but retained $680 in order to get the driveway cement cleaned and the aggregate compacted. It is now the beginning of February. I'm still waiting for the driveway to be compacted a final time, still getting nasty e-mails from the office manager, who is still trying to charge interest on the remaining $680.00. As I have pointed out to the office manager, if the owner had showed up once during the three times he made appointments in December, he would have been paid in full. Since I no longer trust G and S to actually provide what I asked for, show up on time, and do the work without causing other damage and then lying about it, I must retain some monies to ensure their compliance. Meanwhile, they have not made an appointment to compact the aggregate, and it is still slowly shifting down the hill. When a G and S employee came to use acid on the transmission stains, I pointed out the problem of the shifting aggregate. He said he would need to send a crew with shovels to move the aggregate back up the hill. This driveway is going to be a continuing problem, and G and S has demonstrated that they cannot be relied upon to show up and fix problems their lack of knowledge created. They should not have offered the small aggregate as a choice on the sloped driveway, especially after I specifically asked the salesman if stone would work on the slope. They then failed to change to the larger (and heavier) aggregate when I requested it. G and S has denied ever receiving the message from the salesman that I wished to change from small aggregate to large. Unfortunately, this message was verbal, and other verbal messages I have given them have gone missing as well. I would advise making all communications with the company in writing, examining all materials before they are installed, and supervising the crews carefully. Update as of 12/6 In a review of G & S Fence on 2/27/2018 I described the problems I experienced. Their response to that review was to, once again, lie. UPDATED REVIEW: Despite the G & S Fence salesman’s promise that gravel would be stable on the driveway slope, it was not. If they had said it would not be stable, I would not have asked for it, obviously! This was not an issue of money, but looks. The driveway has now washed out twice and been destroyed. The aggregate washes in regular rainstorms, leaving undriveable crevasses. The cement approach has been damaged beyond repair by the acid G & S applied to try to clean the oil their truck leaked. As the photos show, the old driveway asphalt was never thoroughly removed, which compromised the stability of aggregate they put down. WASHOUT #1: The driveway failed during a storm on July 25, 2018. The gravel washed into the street and the drainage ditch. This required three men five hours each to clean up the mess and replace some of the gravel. Cost: $635.00. I did not ask G & S to do this clean up because in spring 2018 they had repeatedly refused to compact the gravel, or lied about whether they had done so. They demanded more money to compact the gravel again. With tenants in the house, the repairs needed to be done immediately. WASHOUT #2: The driveway failed again on December 3, 2018 and washed into the street again. The photographs from Washout #2 show that when G & S Fence installed the gravel, they did not thoroughly clean away the old chunks of asphalt, which may have led to the instability that they refused to address in spring 2018 unless I kept giving them money. Once again, I needed to hire someone immediately to make the driveway navigable. I have not yet received a bill for this. The entire driveway will now need to be replaced. Had they not poured muriatic acid on the cement approach, the gravel could have been removed and a hard surface put down. That is no longer possible, since the cement

I contracted with G&S on April 28, 2017. The cost was $6000 and I was asked to pay 1/2 down so that materials could be ordered. I was promised a 2-3 week completion schedule. My family was to move into the property by June 1, and we have a dog. etc., so it was very important for to get this completed on time. The job included both black vinyl chain link and black aluminum fencing. After three weeks I followed up and was told it would be finished within a couple of days. For the next few days they did not show and did not call, and did not return my calls or emails Finally near the end of May they showed installed the chain link fence and left. The rest of the property where the aluminum fencing was to be installed was not done. After some angry calls from me tey admitted they did not have the aluminum on hand I was led to believe they had, and came out and installed temporary chain link where the aluminum was to be installed. Since my property was enclosed I was patient, so 3 weeks I called and inquired as to the status to complete the job. Once again, I was told that "tomorrow or the next day" I would be finished. Again, no show - no call for several days. I sent a text to the owner a few days later. He answered not with "I apologize" or anything else other than an audio file that was sent to me. It was a trucker in Atlanta saying he was stuck in traffic. Finally got the aluminum fence installed 3 1/2 months later however they cut through my irrigation line and said nothing. Discovered this a couple months later after I went to test the system.
Response from

"Thank you for your review [Member Name Removed]. We did have some challenges getting all of your aluminum materials in for your project and the challenges were out of my control. I put in a black chain link fence to close in the yard while we waited for your materials to come in and I did that at no cost to you and thought that would be more than a sufficient form of an apology. G&S typically doesn't have problems bringing in materials for projects. All of my trucks are equipped with irrigation fittings. If we know that we hit an irrigation line, we repair them. Again, I appreciate your review, and thank you for your business."
